Fr mre than 55 years, Danzig Baldaev had been studying a special frm f cmmunicatin amng the Russian prisners. When he was a prisn guard, he discvered that the tatt (紋身) n each prisner's bdy had a message fr the ther rmmates.


A burning crss meant the prisner wanted revenge (報(bào)復(fù)); a pirate with a knife between his teeth shwed that the prisner was a persn wh liked t hurt thers and a tatt f the Sviet funder, Vladimir Lenin, was like a spell (魔法) against death punishment.


The Asian Age newspaper has reprted that 81-year-ld Baldaev's lng-time hbby has just been released in the frm f a bk, Prisners' Tatts. The bk was released at St. Petersburg's ld Kresty jail.


Baldaev cntinued t dcument prisners' tatts even after he became a plice detective. But his effrts met with resistance frm prisns, while the plice detectives encuraged it. Hwever, during the Cmmunist rule, Baldaev had t pursue his hbby in secret. He even paid prisners tbacc fr letting him cpy their tatts.


The newspaper reprted Baldaev as saying that the Russian prisners' tatts had mre varied styles than tatts n prisners in ther cuntries. Several times, the Russian prisn tatts invlved plitical themes, he said. Als, they didn't just tell abut the crime cmmitted by the prisner, but als tld abut his place in the underwrld. Apart frm these, the prisners' desires and persnalities were shwn, the authr said.
