Ⅰ. 閱讀理解 A (2019·遵義高一檢測) My family, my wife, Joan, our two teenagers Hannah and Joseph, and I, live in Atlanta with our two dogs. Ten years ago, we moved into our dream house, a very big three-story home. It was a beautiful place, but as our children grew up, our sense of togetherness (團結) began to disappear slowly. In the big house, we sometimes seemed to be strangers to each other. One day when Hannah was 14, she became upset about the difference between the world’s haves and the have-nots. She expected us to be “a family that makes a difference in the world, even if it’s a small difference. ” Joan asked her, “What are you willing to sacrifice? Your house? Your room? ” Hannah said yes to both. After talking it over as a family, we decided to sell our house and move to one that was half its size and price and donate (捐贈) the difference to those in need. After a lot of research, we chose the Hunger Project, a US-based organization. It works with villagers in Africa, Asia and South America and helps them fight against poverty (貧窮). Our money went to pay for building two centers. Each has a meeting place, a bank and a health clinic (診所). Together, the centers would serve more than 20 villages in eastern Ghana. We also traveled to meet the villagers and were blown away by their hard work and warmth. To be honest, we were a little worried at first. Would we regard the new home as being too small for us? Or would we think we had given up too much? Two years later, I can tell you: It’s the best move we have ever made. While we worked together on our family project, we became much closer. As Hannah said the other day, “We learned how to really trust each other. 1. After they moved into a large house, the author’s family ______. ? A. were not as close as before B. wanted an even larger house C. often went travelling together D. often let strangers share their spare rooms 【解析】選A。 In the big house, we sometimes seemed to be strangers to each other. 2. What does the underlined word “sacrifice” in Paragraph 3 probably mean? A. Hope for. B. Look for. C. Give up. D. Build up. Your room? 3. Why did the author’s family sell their big house? A. To go abroad. B. To help the poor. C. To treat Hannah’s illness. D. To save money for the future. After talking it over as a family, we decided to sell our house and move to one that was half its size and price and donate the difference to those in need. 4. How did the author feel about his family’s move? A. It was well worth it. B. It was a bad decision. C. It was a waste of money. D. It wasn’t as satisfying as expected. 【解析】選A。 It’s the best move we have ever made. B Running on the beach can certainly be a good thing. It’s completely different from running on the pavement, a track or trails with soft surfaces. For starters, sand can be a challenge because it has an uneven(不平的)surface and constantly moves under your feet. As you push off, you’re going to lose some of your push as the sand moves. So, you’re not going to be able to push yourself forward as you would on a track or pavement! But this unevenness has an upside: It gives your body an extra workout, forcing you to exercise muscles that don’t get as much use during runs on firm surfaces. You also might feel painful afterward because beaches tend to slope(傾斜)downward, toward the water. If you’re going for a long run on the beach, you might notice that one side of your body—including your ankle, leg or knee—might feel more painful because you’re putting more pressure on it due to the slope. Some beach runners tend to run barefoot. However, if you’re not used to barefoot running, start slowly and run short distances at first. That’s because running barefoot uses different muscles than running with shoes does, and it’s important to strengthen these muscles and adapt your feet. Despite these challenges, running on sand can be a smart choice for athletes because running on it can decrease the bad influence on your body during high-intensity workouts. This could potentially lead to less muscle damage and less pain. Women had less myoglobin(肌紅蛋白)—a protein that can be a sign of muscle pain—in their blood after running on the sand than they did after running on grass. This suggests running on softer ground surfaces, such as sand, may reduce muscle damage. 5. What makes running on sand difficult for starters? A. The smooth surface. B. The moving surface. C. The sloping surface. D. The hard surface. For starters, sand can be a challenge because it has an uneven surface and constantly moves under your feet. 6. Which of the following best explains “upside” underlined in Paragraph 2? A. Advantage. B. Reason. C. Surprise. D. Challenge. 【解析】選A。 It gives your body an extra workout, forcing you to exercise muscles that don’t get as much use during runs on firm surfaces. 7. What should you avoid when trying running barefoot? A. Starting slowly. B. Adapting your feet. C. Developing some muscles. D. Running long distances. However, if you’re not used to barefoot running, start slowly and run short distances at first. 8. What is the benefit of running on sand to women? A. Having no muscle damage. B. Becoming much healthier. C. Feeling less painful. D. Having a good feeling. Women had less myoglobin—a protein that can be a sign of muscle pain-in their blood after running on the sand than they did after running on grass. This suggests running on softer ground surfaces, such as sand, may reduce muscle damage. (2019·哈爾濱高一檢測) Understanding and appreciating art can be hard if you don’t have much experience with art. 故選A。 3. Instead of trying to focus on the technical aspects of the art, ask yourself how the art makes you feel. Most art tries to express a feeling like sadness, anger, or happiness. Speak and talk with artists.
