本課時包括 Starting ut和 Understanding ideas兩部分。
Starting ut是導入部分，通過觀察圖片和觀看視頻，讓學生了解三位人物的事跡：以蹬三輪車為生的白方禮老人，累計捐款35萬元。他用自己的行動為人們樹立了個助人的榜樣！Flrence Nightingale因在克里米亞進行護理而聞名，被譽為“提燈女神”。她是世界上第一位真正的女護士，開創(chuàng)了護理事業(yè)?！?.12”國際護士節(jié)設立在南丁格爾生日這一天，就是為了紀念這位近代護理事業(yè)的創(chuàng)始人。美國傳奇滅火專家 Red Adair一生撲滅了3000多場油井大火。Adair不僅是一名無畏的滅火專家，也是大膽變革消防技術(shù)的開拓者。他在全世界首次采用潛水設施成功撲滅海上油井大火，還將炸藥、水炮、推土機、探鉆泥漿和混凝土等廣泛應用于救火實踐。在此基礎上，引導學生進一步思考這三位偉大人物對社會的貢獻、他們可敬的品格，思考和歸納做出相似貢獻的其他人，完成相應的練習題。
Understanding ideas部分的 The Well that Changed the wrld主要介紹了Ryan幼年時聽老師說起非洲兒童吃水難的問題，于是默默攢錢，并籌集捐款，給非洲兒童打井的故事。通過這篇文章，學生進一步了解非洲兒童的生活現(xiàn)狀并思考自己能為他們做些什么，培養(yǎng)學生樂于助人的高尚品格。
課時目標：
1.認知并靈活運用本課時的重點單詞 cntributin, relief, shrtage, effective,
fund，earn，dnate，reality以及短語 break int a smile，have truble（in）ding sth.，lk acrss，make a difference，set up，benefit frm。
2.通過速讀、精讀等方式，引導學生由淺入深，逐層推進，理解文章的內(nèi)容，
掌握不同的閱讀技巧和方法。
3.通過閱讀文章，了解Ryan的做法及字里行間流露出的對非洲兒童的關(guān)懷

1.在網(wǎng)上搜索和了解 Starting ut部分中三位人物的是大感人事跡，以及非洲兒童的生活現(xiàn)狀。
2.預習 Starting ut和 Understanding ideas兩部分的內(nèi)容，通過查字典等方式提前解決詞匯問題。

【設計意圖】該部分用簡答題的形式將課文主要內(nèi)容展示出來，有助于學生理清文章脈絡，同時鍛煉學生的概括歸納能力和語言表達能力。因為有原文提示，難度不大，所以將該題設置在速讀部分。
