Owner: That ne’s reserved. This way, please. [T a waiter] Take this gentleman’s rder, Hrace.Henry: Can I have sme ham and eggs, and a nice big juicy steak with all the trimmings? And make it extra thick.Hrace: It’d cst a tidy bit. Henry: That’s understd. And a lng, cl tankard f ale. [After finishing what he rdered.] Uh, waiter. Same thing again, please.Hrace: Again? Henry: That’s right. And fill that up. Anything wrng? Hrace: N. N, sir. [He ges t the wner.] He’s asked fr anther prtin. Ale and all. Owner: Yu think he can pay? Maggie: We’ll have t chance it. Owner: Serve him, Hrace. But dn’t spare the gristle! Hrace: Ham, eggs, steak, ptates, beans, carrts, twice, trifle, cheese, cffee, tw quarts f ale ... three and ten pence.Henry: Thank yu. Wuld yu mind waiting just a few minutes? Hrace: What’s there t wait fr? Owner: Alright, Hrace.

Henry: That was a wnderful meal. Yu knw, uh, it’s amazing hw much pleasure yu get ut f the simple things if yu have t get alng withut them fr a while.Owner: Very interesting. And nw perhaps if yu’d pay the bill I culd attend t the ther custmers.Henry: That clck f yurs, is it crrect? Owner: If anything, it’s fast. Henry: [T himself.] Oh, it’s fast. [T wner.] Hw fast? Old man: Tw minutes. Henry: Oh, thank yu. Owner: Nw, I dn’t wish t be unpleasant, but wuld yu please settle the bill? Henry: I want t, but yu see ... Owner: The bill, please. Henry: Yes, I knw. The bill. Owner: Exactly.Henry: Well, I dn’t suppse a cuple f minutes will make any difference. [After pening the envelpe.] I, I’m awfully srry but … I dn’t have anything smaller.Owner: [After getting the bank nte frm Henry.] Well, uh, uh, just ne mment. [He shws the bank nte t his wife.] Maggie, lk!
Maggie: Ah! Owner: D yu think it’s real? Maggie: Ask Mr Clemens. Owner: Mr Clemens, Mr Clemens! Mr Clemens: What is it?Owner: Wuld yu mind just lking at this? D yu think it’s genuine? Mr Clemens: Tw ntes f this denminatin have been issued. But in any case, it’s hardly likely t be a frgery.Maggie: Why nt? Mr Clemens: It wuld draw t much attentin t the wner. N frger wuld want that.Maggie: But lk at the wner, Mr Clemens. He’s in rags. Mr Clemens: I can nly assume he’s an eccentric millinaire.Owner: An eccentric millinaire! Maggie: And yu put him at the back f the rm! G and attend t him at nce!Owner: I’m srry, sir, but I cannt change the nte.Henry: But it’s all I have n me.
Owner: Oh, h. please dn’t wrry, sir. It’s f n cnsequence, n cnsequence at all. We are mst gratified that yu shuld s much as set ft inside ur little establishment. Indeed, sir, I trust yu will cme here whenever yu’re seeking peace and quiet.Henry: Oh, that’s very gd f yu. Owner: Gd. sir? It’s gd f yu. sir! Yu must cme whenever yu want and have whatever yu like. The mere hnur f yur presence is a reward in itself.Henry: I may nt be passing this way fr quite a while. Owner: It wuld be a very pr thing, sir, if I culdn’t trust a gentleman as rich as yurself, sir, even if yu d play larks upn the public in the matter f dress. As fr the bill, sir, please frget it. It’s f n cnsequence, n cnsequence at all.Henry: Thank yu very much then. That’s very nice f yu. Owner: Oh, it’s fr us t thank yu, sir. And I d, sir, frm the bttm f my heart.
