本課是北師大版《初中英語》八年級上冊教材第6單元第17課True Stries部分，話題是怪異動物。本課是本單元的第二課，是一節(jié)閱讀課，主要介紹三個有關怪異生物的信息，并恰當使用時間狀語從句，為最終進行本課的綜合語言輸出奠定語言基礎。
本課設計為兩課時。第一課時側重閱讀，通過三遍閱讀，利用回答問題、總結段意、填表等方式，幫助學生獲取文本信息，并對當時主人公的感情進行體會。同時在閱讀中，對閱讀技巧加以滲透。
第二課時在復習語篇內容的基礎上，提取文中含有Get +adj.句式和含有befre, after和during的句式，進而更好地運用從屬連詞在語境中進行時間狀語從句的練習。
