As the old saying goes,“Don't judge a book by its cover.” And neither should we judge movie stars by their ages.
At just 21, Elle Fanning made history by becoming the youngest jury(評審團) member at the Cannes Film Festival. This year it lasted from May 14th to May 25th. “I was in complete shock when I got that phone call and that question if I wanted to be a member of the Cannes Jury,” Fanning said during a press conference.
As it turned out, it not only shocked the US actress, but also brought criticism from those who believed Fanning was too young compared to other veterans in the industry. But Fanning's acting experience was in fact a good argument for her jury membership. In fact, Fanning has been a Hollywood fixture for longer than you realize.
The 21-year-old has been in many big productions. She began acting in I AM Sam at age 3. With lead roles in movies like Super 8, We Bought a Zoo and Maleficent under her belt, she's appeared in 60 projects and is one of Hollywood's hottest young stars. Fanning's devotion to work numbers her among the few former child stars who continue to act as adults.
In her latest movie Teen Spirit, which hit US cinemas last month, Fanning plays a pop singer. Since she had no singing experience, Fanning had to work with Grammy-winning music producer Marius de Vries for three months before the filming started. “I would go to his apartment and sing through all the songs every day,” she said. “He videoed me and recorded me singing everything and made me watch it back again and again to improve my skills.”
With such rich acting experience and devotion to her art, Fanning certainly was able to “represent a new class in film” at the Cannes Film Festival.
4.What does the underlined word “veterans” probably mean?
A.Shocked actresses. B.Green hands.
C.Experienced people. D.Music producers.
5.In which film does Fanning play a pop singer?
A.I AM Sam. B.Super 8.
C.We Bought a Zoo. D.Teen Spirit.
6.What does the writer think of Elle Fanning?
A.Wealthy. B.Devoted. C.Considerate. D.Friendly.
7.What is the main idea of the text?
A.Elle Fanning's earning her honor.
B.A person judged by appearance.
C.Introducing some famous films.
D.Elle Fanning's presenting in a new film.

[2020·貴陽市第一次檢測] Running may feel like a big task for most of us. But do you know our species has evolved to run better than any other animals on this planet? Cheetahs(獵豹) are the fastest land animals in the world. But do you know that humans can leave them in the dust? At least, in the long run, that's right. When it comes to endurance, we can outrun cheetahs, wolves and even horses. So what makes humans such endurance running superstars? The secret weapon is our sweat. We have 2-4 million sweat glands(腺) all over our body, which means we can run and cool ourselves at the same time. Having no fur is also a huge plus. In contrast, dogs rely on panting(喘息) to cool down, and other animals, like horses and camels, also sweat, but less effectively. As a result, they overheat faster and must slow down sooner.
So, why did humans get to be such great endurance runners, anyway? Some experts believe this became important around 2-3 million years ago, when we started hunting. Because we couldn't chase down a gazelle(瞪羚) like a cheetah, early humans learned hunting.
Studies show running can lower body weight and body fat. And the longer you train, the greater the benefits are. Just one year of training has been shown to reduce body weight by about 7 lbs, lower body fat by 2.7% and decrease resting heart rate by 2.7%.
It may seem really hard, or even impossible to run a mile or a marathon. But in fact, you were born to go on that run. We all were.
8.In the first paragraph, cheetahs are mentioned to ________.
A.show cheetahs are the fastest land animals in the world
B.introduce humans can run fastest on the planet in the long run
C.contrast with wolves and even horses in one aspect of endurance
D.inform running may be a big challenge for most of us humans
9.Why can we humans be endurance running superstars?
A.We can pant to cool down our heat like dogs.
B.We can sweat effectively like horses and camels.
C.We have massive sweat glands and meanwhile no fur.
D.We can run and overheat fastest to cool down ourselves.
10.According to studies in the text, if you want to lose weight, what should you do?
A.Eat a variety of vegetables and less fat.
B.Work out at the gym every day.
C.Exercise outside as much as you like.
D.Conduct systematic training in running.
11.What does the author intend to emphasize in the last paragraph?
A.Humans have great running ability by birth.
B.Humans can chase down animals like cheetahs.
C.Marathoners don't need hard training.
D.Running can lower body weight and fat.

Unless you're very young or very old, it's likely you have some kind of relationship with email, whether you get hundreds of messages a day or a few dozen a week. A new study suggests that how we deal with these incoming messages could be affecting our stress levels and overall health.
A team from the Future Work Centre in the UK surveyed 2,000 people across various industries, sectors, and job roles, asking participants how they managed their email and how much associated stress they felt as a result. Overall, those who spent the most time organising and staying on top of messages felt the most email-related pressure too.
“While email can be a valuable communication tool,it's clear that it's a source of stress and frustration for many of us. The people who reported it being most useful to them also reported the highest levels of email pressure,” said one of the team, Richard MacKinnon.
Two of the habits linked to more email-related stress were checking for messages the first thing in the morning and the last thing at night. Half of those surveyed had push notifications(消息推送) set up for new email, while 62 percent of respondents left their email app open all day and all night. Both were linked to higher levels of email pressure. The survey also found that managers suffered more than non-managers.
Stress is not just a problem when it comes to our mood-it's been linked to a lot of disorders such as heart disease, weight gain, memory impairment(減弱), digestive problems, and depression.
The researchers suggest that the relationship between email-related stress and the negative impact on home life is not the same for everyone.
12.What's the purpose of the study?
A.To find out how many people have an email account.
B.To know what sort of people use email most.
C.To find out how email management is related to stress.
D.To show what changes email has brought about to people.
13.What does Richard MacKinnon think of email?
A.It brings more strengths. B.It is not an essential tool.
C.It is a double-edged sword. D.It makes people puzzled.
14.Which of the following habits causes the most stress?
A.Checking email in the morning.
B.Checking email in the evening.
C.Keeping email app open at work.
D.Setting up push notifications for new email.
15.Where does the text most probably come from?
A.Science fiction. B.A science report
C.A fashion magazine. D.A book guide.

Rise and Shine All Day
Making these easy tasks part of your morning schedule will improve your nutrition, energy, and mood today-and beyond.
Stretch in bed.
Try this even before you open your eyes. Lift one arm and begin by stretching each finger, then your hand, then your wrist, and then your whole arm. __16__ Then stretch your toes, feet, ankles, and legs. Finally, end with a neck and back stretch that pushes you out of bed. This “power pose” makes you feel more confident all day long.
__17__
Working out before you eat encourages your body to burn more fat for energy rather than relying on carbohydrates(碳水化合物) from food. In a study, participants who exercised after breakfast still gained weight, but those who exercised on an empty stomach did not.
Turn on the music.
__18__ If anyone plays an instrument, and if you have a little time, morning is the perfect time to practice, as it prepares your brain for learning. One study found that both playing and listening to music help improve academic performance in 16 different ways, including increasing focus and memory.
Enjoy some fun.
Many people fear to face a new day of work, school, or chores. __19__ This can be having a cup of coffee as you read your favorite blog, etc. Choose activities you enjoy and that set you on a good path for the day.
You've improved your state of mind, your health, and your productivity-all before the weekday has even begun. __20__
A.Move on to the other arm.
B.Do regular exercise in the morning.

The plot of the much-loved film, Paddington 2, centers around a unique pop-up book (立體書) and a bear. Paddington, a good-souled bear, who is the leading role of the film, performs several odd jobs to purchase the pop-up book in Samuel Gruber's antique shop for Aunt Lucy's 100th birthday. After opening it, Paddington is transported into a dreamlike world of London's city scene, from where Paddington really starts his journey.
In the movie, the dust-covered pop-up book is made up of London city landmarks. The River Thames plays an important role in the pop-up book — the ocean liner coming in under Tower Bridge, Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament giving way to the view of the boat traffic on the river. Paddington's wonder at seeing these landmarks is meant to show how books, pictures and construction can fuel a child's imagination.
The film is based on the children's books of the author Michael Bond, who 60 years ago, published the first book, A Bear Called Paddington, in 1958. There were 15 Paddington titles in all, plus picture and gift books, a cook book and a guide to London. The books describe Paddington's life, travels and adventures in London, which usually involve a considerable number of tricks and troubles.
In the movie, Paddington 1, Paddington is found by the Browns with a note “Please look after this bear. Thank you.” Bond has said he was inspired by children who had to leave London on trains during World War Ⅱ. “They all had a label round their neck with their name and address on and a little case or package containing all their treasured possessions,” he said. “So Paddington, in a sense, was a refugee (難民), and I do think that there's no sadder sight than refugees.”

A
根據(jù)題干中的關(guān)鍵詞“the largest circulation”定位至每個媒體介紹的發(fā)行量處;由第二段中的“23,100,000 copies”,第三段中的“20,930,000 copies”,第四段中的“6,900,000 copies a year”以及第五段中的“10,209,000 copies”可知,《太陽報》的年發(fā)行量最大,故A項正確。
根據(jù)題干中的關(guān)鍵詞“the most loyal readers of Daily Mail”定位到第三段倒數(shù)第二句“Well-known for female favorite topics, it is extremely popular with middle-class housewives”,由該句可知,中產(chǎn)階級的婦女是《每日郵報》最忠實的讀者,故B項正確。
根據(jù)尾段倒數(shù)第二句“It also publishes literary works, but mainly short stories and poems, as well as humorous sketches(小品)”可知,《紐約客》還出版文學作品,但主要是短篇故事和詩歌,以及幽默小品等,據(jù)此可知,小說最沒有可能在《紐約客》出版,故選D。
B
根據(jù)第五段第一句“In her latest movie Teen Spirit...Fanning plays a pop singer”可知,D項正確。
根據(jù)第二段第一句“At just 21, Elle Fanning made history by becoming the youngest jury(評審團) member at the Cannes Film Festival”并結(jié)合全文其他內(nèi)容可知,本文主要講述了21歲的艾麗·范寧成為戛納電影節(jié)歷史上年齡最小的評審團成員,并介紹了她的演藝經(jīng)歷,故A項正確。
C
根據(jù)第一段第四句和第五句“But do you know that humans can leave them in the dust? At least,in the long run, that's right”的轉(zhuǎn)折可推知,第一段提到獵豹是為了和人類進行對比從而引出,從長遠來看,人類是地球上跑得最快的。
根據(jù)第一段中的“We have 2—4 million sweat glands(腺) all over our body”“Having no fur is also a huge plus”可知,人類之所以在跑步方面耐力很強是因為人類有很多的汗腺,且沒有動物的毛皮。故選C。
【干擾項分析】 A項錯在我們和狗一樣靠喘息來降溫,這是一種效率不高的降溫方式,與人類通過汗腺進行有效降溫的方式形成對比;B項與第一段倒數(shù)第二句中的“and other animals, like horses and camels, also sweat, but less effectively”相悖,故排除;D項錯在人類跑得最快并過熱最快,這與第一段中的“we can run and cool ourselves at the same time”不符,故排除。
根據(jù)第三段前兩句“Studies show running can lower body weight and body fat. And the longer you train, the greater the benefits are”,并結(jié)合題干可知,想減肥的人只要進行系統(tǒng)的跑步訓練即可。故選D。
根據(jù)最后一段第二句“But in fact, you were born to go on that run”并結(jié)合對全文的整體理解可推知,作者強調(diào)了人類在血統(tǒng)上就具備很強的跑步能力。故選A。
D
根據(jù)第一段第二句“A new study suggests that how we deal with these incoming messages could be affecting our stress levels and overall health”并結(jié)合第三段內(nèi)容可知,該研究旨在弄清處理電子郵件的方式和壓力以及健康的關(guān)系,故C項正確。
根據(jù)第三段Richard MacKinnon所說的話“While email can be a valuable communication tool, it's clear that it's a source of stress and frustration for many of us. The people who reported it being most useful to them also reported the highest levels of email pressure”可知,雖然電子郵件是很有用的溝通工具,但又是壓力和沮喪的來源;聲稱電子郵件最有用的人也是承受電子郵件壓力最大的人;據(jù)此可推知,Richard MacKinnon認為電子郵件是一把雙刃劍,故C項正確。
根據(jù)第四段中的“Half of those surveyed had push notifications(消息推送) set up for new email, while 62 percent of respondents left their email app open all day and all night. Both were linked to higher levels of email pressure”可知,一半的受訪者設(shè)置了新的電子郵件推送通知,62%的受訪者讓他們的電子郵件應用程序全天整夜都開著,這兩種習慣都導致更大的壓力,比早晚查看電子郵件導致的壓力更大,故D項正確。
通讀全文可知,文章第一段第二句“A new study suggests that how we deal with these incoming messages could be affecting our stress levels and overall health”為全文的主題句,據(jù)此可知,本文主要介紹了一項新的科學研究:處理電子郵件的方式影響人的壓力層級和整體健康。
16.答案與解析:A 根據(jù)本段小標題“Stretch in bed.” 又根據(jù)空前的“Lift one arm and begin by stretching each finger, then your hand, then your wrist, and then your whole arm.”和空后的“Then stretch your toes, feet, ankles, and legs.” A項中的the other arm與空前的one arm相呼應。故選A項。
根據(jù)該段中的“In a study, participants who exercised after breakfast still gained weight, but those who exercised on an empty stomach did not.” C項中的on an empty stomach與本段中的on an empty stomach呼應,且C項的內(nèi)容與本段的主題一致。故選C項。
18.答案與解析:G 根據(jù)本段小標題“Turn on the music.”
19.答案與解析:F 設(shè)空前一句“Many people fear to face a new day of work, school,or chores.”說明很多人害怕面對新一天的工作、學習或者日?,嵤隆6蘸蟆癟his can be having a cup of coffee as you read your favorite blog, etc.”
20.答案與解析:E 根據(jù)空前一句“You've improved your state of mind, your health, and your productivity-all before the weekday has even begun.”
