Every syllable must have a vwel / cnsnant. We can determine hw many syllables a wrd has based n hw many vwels / cnsnants are in that wrd.A syllable may have tw vwels if thse vwels make ne / tw sund(s) r ne f them is silent (u, w, ea, ai, a, a_e, etc.).
