Orange juice has never been mre expensive. Cncentrate range-juice futures in New Yrk have quadrupled (翻兩番) since late 2021.
The prblem is that the market fr ranges t make cncentrate is very cncentrated. Grwth f the fruit in Flrida, nce the wrld’s secnd-biggest prducer, has decreased by 92% in the past 20 years after being hit by pests, hurricanes and rising csts. Other grwers, such as Mexic and Spain, largely supply the fresh-fruit market. That leaves Brazil, which accunts fr 70% f the wrld’s prductin and a similar share f exprts. And nw it, t, is in truble.
At the start f the year the market already faced bitter prspects. Brazil’s drught is getting wrse — parts f Sa Paul, Brazil’s main range-prducing state, have seen n rain fr fur mnths. In May, grwers frm Sa Paul frecast that the year’s crp wuld fall by 24% cmpared with the year befre, after an ultra-ht flwering seasn. Farmers als faced an ut-f-cntrl resurgence in citrus greening (柑橘黃龍病), an untreatable bacterial disease that turns ranges sur befre killing the tree.
Bigger farmers can affrd t prtect grves by using net s r insecticides. Fr smaller nes the nly fix is t rt ut ptentially diseased trees. High prices mean many prefer t keep their grves in the grund, s infectins persist.
Planting in ther regins may help, but suitable areas lack water access and are t far away frm juice plants, which means that prgress is very slw. Sme farmers may pt t plant less risky crps than ranges, such as sugar cane.
In many fields damage has already been dne, meaning this year’s harvest is dmed. The next few culd be just as bad. New trees take fur years t bear fruit; they t culd be expsed t greening. Drughts culd sap yields again.
Despite high prices, glbal demand fr juice remains strng, because cnsumers are affluent enugh t pay mre. This may lift prducers’ prfits a little, but nt by much, fr they als face higher csts.
Shrtages may start t ccur sn, prbably utside America and Eurpe, which will be priritized by retailers as the largest range-juice markets. Withut a miracle, things lk rtten fr seekers f Vitamin C.
28.What cntributes t the decline in range prductin in Brazil?
A.Cnsumer preference twards fresh fruit.
B.Lack f water and a bacterial disease.
C.A decrease in the number f farmers.
D.The intrductin f new markets.
29.What is the impact f citrus greening n range prductin?
A.It increases the sweetness f ranges.
B.It affects the quality and yield f ranges.
C.It satisfies the demand fr ranges as a health supplement.
D.It causes a decrease in the number f trees available fr planting.
30.Hw are sme range farmers likely t address the challenges?
A.T seek less risky alternatives.
B.T rt ut diseased trees by using nets.
C.T plant ranges far frm juice factries.
D.T turn ranges sur befre killing the tree.
31.What des the underlined wrd “affluent” in Paragraph 7 prbably mean?

根據(jù)文章第三段中“Farmers als faced an ut- f-cntrl resurgence in citrus greening (柑橘黃龍病), an untreatable bacterial disease that turns ranges sur befre killing the tree.(農(nóng)民們還面臨著柑橘綠化的柑橘黃龍病,這是一種無法治愈的細(xì)菌疾病,會在殺死橙子之前使其變酸)”可知,巴西的柑橘種植者們不僅要面臨干旱,還要面臨柑橘黃龍病,這是一種無法治愈的細(xì)菌性疾病,會在殺死柑橘樹之前使柑橘變酸,影響柑橘的品質(zhì)。故選B項。
根據(jù)文章第五段中“Sme farmers may pt t plant less risky crps than ranges, such as sugar cane.(一些農(nóng)民可能會選擇種植風(fēng)險比柑橘低的作物,比如甘蔗)”可知,為了解決困難,一些種植柑橘的農(nóng)民可能尋求風(fēng)險較小的替代作物,故選A項。

根據(jù)第一段中“But NME’s best days were lng past, and it’s hard t imagine current readers weeping. As an ad-supprted free publicatin, n ne thught it was exciting, necessary, r even surprising. It was unnecessary and culd be easily thrwn away: smething yu picked up fr a while and then put dwn. 故選A項。
根據(jù)第三段中“Yet fr generatins f suburban teenagers, the weekly music press was life-changing. NME made sme bands famus, althugh nt as ften as it tried t, and helped peple understand why the bands were imprtant. Mre than that, the inkies were the gateways t a wider wrld f plitics, culture and ideas — life.
根據(jù)最后一段中“Nwadays, there are new and instant pleasures. N teenagers have t rush t the news agent t find ut what’s happening, nr wait fr Jhn Peel t cme n the radi, r g arund recrd shps.(如今,有了新的即時樂趣。 故選A項。
通讀全文,結(jié)合第一段中“It wuld be silly t be sad abut the end f The New Musical Express (NME), which is clsing its print editin after 66 years, maintaining nly its painful digital existence.

36.根據(jù)前文““What I advcate is making small changes t yur behaviurs and reducing the amunt f sugar in yur diet systematically,” says Avena.(“我提倡的是在你的行為上做一些小的改變,系統(tǒng)地減少飲食中的糖含量,”Avena說)”以及后文“Peple wh g cld turkey (突然戒除) may experience headaches, anxiety , sleeplessness and intense cravings(突然戒除的人可能會感到頭痛、焦慮、失眠和強(qiáng)烈的渴望)”可知,此處是在講述提倡的是系統(tǒng)地減少飲食中的糖含量,而不是突然戒除,所以F項“Ding this slwly, ver time, is the best apprach t aviding withdrawal symptms.(慢慢地,隨著時間的推移,是避免戒斷癥狀的最好方法)”符合文意,承接上文,引出下文,而下文的癥狀為本句中的戒斷癥狀。故選F項。
“Aviding prcessed fds greatly reduce risk fr besity and ther diseases,” says Van Hrn. Prcessed fds tend t be items that include ten r mre ingredients, ften with sme yu can’t find in yur kitchen.(避免加工食品。
38.根據(jù)前文“It’s imprtant t read ingredient lists carefully and watch fr different names f sugar. “There are 50-plus names fr sugar,” says McBurnett. “It can get very cnfusing.”(仔細(xì)閱讀成分表并注意不同名稱的糖是很重要的?! 可知,此處在講述閱讀成分表以及糖的名字很多,所以C項“As a general rule, if it’s an ingredient that ends in se, it’s sugar.(一般來說,如果一種成分以se結(jié)尾,那就是糖)”是在介紹如何分辨糖的名字,符合文意。故選C項。
39.設(shè)空位于段首,是本段中心句,根據(jù)后文“Naturally ccurring sugars fund in milk, fruits and vegetables, are nutritius. All this isn’t t say that yu will never again enjy anther slice f birthday cake r an ice-cld drink at the cinema. 故選A項。
40.根據(jù)前文““Maybe yu just want t get t a pint where yu feel yu are at a cmfrtable level f cnsumptin-as if yu’re in cntrl,” says Avena.(阿文納說:“也許你只是想達(dá)到一個讓自己感覺舒適的糖分?jǐn)z入水平,就好像一切盡在掌控之中。”)”可知,此處是在講述,你控制糖分的攝入就可以了,所以G項“But ver time, cnsuming less added sugar is bund t actually make yur life sweeter.(但是隨著時間的推移,減少攝入添加糖必然會讓你的生活更加甜蜜)”和前文構(gòu)成轉(zhuǎn)折關(guān)系,但是減少攝入添加糖必然會讓你的生活更加甜蜜,符合語境。故選G項。

I tried t smile as the custmers cmplained abut the rain, but it was difficult t smile as they sat in their temperature-cntrlled cars with the windws rlled up while I dealt with huge drplets f water hanging frm my visr On tp f that, n ne was tipping. Every time I lked int my nearly empty tip jar, I grew mre depressed.
Arund fur ’clck, ne f my regular custmers named Peter came in lking depressed and defeated. My c-wrker and I asked what the prblem was and if we culd help, but he wuldn’t reveal any details. He just said he felt like crawling int bed, pulling the sheets up ver his head and staying there fr a few years. I knew exactly hw he felt.
