? ? 12 sailing (航行) teams from around the world competed in the first-ever Ocean Race Europe this year. The race set off from Lorient, France, on May 29.Teams of six to 10 people spent 22 days sailing the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea to the finish line, in Genoa, Italy. That's where the race ended, on June 19.
????Annie Lush is a member of Offshore Team Germany. "It took a while to realize that we had won!" she told TIME for Kids. This competition marks the first time that Germany has won an Ocean Race in 18 years. "It's a big step for Germany," Lush says. "And it's great to see the excitement the race has brought."
????The Ocean Race Europe develops from the Ocean Race which goes around the world. The first Ocean Race was held in 1973.Since then, it has taken place every three or four years.
????Ocean Race Europe presents plenty of challenges. Teams are on their boats for three straight weeks. "When you're on board, all you do is race, eat, and sleep," says Richard Brisius, chairman of the Ocean Race. "There is no Internet connection and there are no movies." There isn't even a fridge inside the boat. Things like fridges weigh a boat down, and a heavier boat won't sail as fast as a lighter one.
????The Ocean Race Europe has a larger purpose. It aims to raise awareness about ocean sustainability (可持續(xù)性). During the race, buoys (浮標) collect scientific data (數(shù)據(jù)) from the salty waters. The data is shared with scientists. It shows how the ocean is affected by climate (氣候) change. Scientists use the data to further understand the world's changing environment and seas. "The ocean doesn't have a voice of its own," Brisius says. "So it's our job to speak up for it."

【解析】(1)A. If?somebody?volunteers,they?do?something?for?the?benefit?of?another?person?or?the?world?around?us,such?as?our?local?community,without?being?paid(如果有人做志愿者,他們會為另一個人或我們周圍的世界,比如我們當?shù)氐纳鐓^(qū),做一些有益的事情,而不會得到報酬。) 故選A。
(2)C. It?can?be?organised,such?as?work?for?a?charity?or?helping?your?neighbour?with?their?food?shopping.Many?people?volunteer?to?help?the?environment?by?picking?up?litter?or?planting?trees.(它可以是有組織的,比如為慈善機構(gòu)工作,或者幫助你的鄰居購買食物。 Volunteering?comes?in?all?shapes?and?sizes.(志愿服務有各種形式和規(guī)模。)
For?example,if?you?love?nature,why?not?volunteer?for?a?wildlife?charity?(例如,如果你熱愛大自然,為什么不去野生動物慈善機構(gòu)做志愿者呢?) This?is?especially?true?if?you?match?volunteering?to?your?interests.(如果你將志愿工作與你的興趣相匹配,這一點尤其正確。)
It?has?been?shown?to?reduce?feelings?of?anxiety(焦慮)because?many?people?find?that?they?are?distracted(分心)from?their?worries?by?concentrating?on?the?needs?of?others(它已經(jīng)被證明可以減少焦慮感(焦慮)因為很多人發(fā)現(xiàn)自己分心了,通過關(guān)注他人的需求來擺脫他們的擔憂。) Volunteering?can?make?you?happier?over?time.(志愿服務可以讓你隨著時間的推移變得更快樂。)
Volunteering?also?provides?an?opportunity?for?you?to?meet?and?connect?with?people,"which?is?good?news?for?our?mental?health," says?Jolie?Goodman?of?the?Mental?Health? Studies?have?shown?that?volunteering?can?improve?your?physical?health,too.(研究表明,志愿工作也可以改善你的身體健康。)

【小題2】are
【小題3】where
【小題4】significant
【小題5】description
【小題6】to
【小題7】coming
【小題8】elements
【小題9】takes
【小題10】the
【解析】(1)to explain. make an effort to do sth."
(2)are. 此處陳述客觀事實,使用一般現(xiàn)在時,這里是完全倒裝句,主語是the natural and social environments,故be動詞用are,故填are。
(3)where.
?(4)significant.
(5)description.
(6)to. 故填to。
(7)coming. The third quality of literature之間是主謂關(guān)系,故用現(xiàn)在分詞coming。故填coming。
(8)elements.
(9)takes.
(10)the. 這里名詞expression后用of結(jié)構(gòu)修飾,表示特指,且此處與后面的the written record of man's thoughts and feelings和the history of the human soul并列作表語,故用定冠詞the。故填the。
