On March 3rd, a baby whale washed nshre in Gergia. Less than a mnth later, anther whale, a recent mther, was fund near the cast f Virginia. They are dying mainly because f human activity, and they are nt alne. Traveling ships threaten whale ppulatins wrldwide, killing up t 20,000 individuals annually. With glbal cean traffic frecast t rise by at least 240% by 2050, the prblem will burgen.
Frtunately, a prject taking advantage f the technlgy called Whale Safe is trying t fight against the issue. Callie Leiphardt, the scientist leading the prject, says that fr every killed whale fund, ten mre deaths are ging unrecrded. That s many were dying despite vluntary speed limits (自動(dòng)限速) suggested mre effective measures were needed. “By alarming ships, and publicizing which shipping cmpanies ignred the speed limit, we might help bring dwn deaths,” Callie says.
Their apprach invlves listening fr whales underwater using micrphne-equipped buys (浮標(biāo)) capable f separating lw-frequency whale calls frm the cean’s backgrund nise. The results are then fed int Whale Safe’s alarm tl, alngside sightings and mdel-based predictins, t tell nearby ships t slw dwn. The team then mnitrs ships’ speeds within established slw znes thrugh a widespread GPS-tracking system and awards parent cmpanies marks frm A t F, visible nline.
The idea is als catching n elsewhere. In 2022, Chile equipped its first buy t alarm ships. That same year, Greek researchers published the results f a trial using buys t detect sperm whales in the Mediterranean. Anther Eurpean prject is develping detectin bxes that use special cameras, alngside ther sensrs, t help ships spt whales early.
After Whale Safe was first applied, the crashes between ships and whales seemed t be decreasing: nly 4 were reprted in 2022, cmpared with 11 the year befre. But the accidents between ships and whales are unavidable in busy prts. S it’s easy t feel pessimistic. But like the whales that used t be hunted, their number has bunced back frm the edge f extinctin. Accrding t Dr Baumgartner, “Everyne that wrks n whales has hpe.”

29.Hw d the micrphne-equipped buys cntribute t reducing whale deaths?

B.The innvatins made t micrphne-equipped buys.
C.The cmparisn f measures taken in different cuntries.
D.The glbal adptin f similar whale prtectin technlgies.

36.上文“Are yu lking fr a place t practice and imprve yur English skills?”
37.上文“There is n need t start frm the beginning.”表示沒(méi)有必要從頭開始,而D選項(xiàng)表示只要從你薄弱的地方入手(“Just check up and find ut where yu are weak.”)
下文的“S, pick ut smething frm yur list f things that yu need t learn.
38.下文的“These sites will prvide yu with tls and resurces such as audi and vide files t practice what yu want t learn.”
后文“Yu studied what yu wanted t learn and nw yu need t use it in real-life situatins.” 故選A。
前文“Once yu finish a day's wrk, sit dwn fr a few minutes and evaluate hw yu did.” 后文“Are yu still weak in certain areas f this tpic?” 選項(xiàng)C“Did yu learn everything that is required?”(你學(xué)了需要學(xué)的所有東西嗎?)

63.the 64.be slwed 65.cntributin(s)
故填when。
故填But。
故填the。
故填be slwed。
故填cntributin(s)。
