Like many children, yung Ltte Reiniger was crazy abut mvies, which at the time were a cmpletely new inventin. She taught herself hw t cut paper silhuettes(剪影), f peple, animals, and bjects. "I culd cut silhuettes almst as sn as I culd manage t hld a pair f scissrs," Reiniger said. "I culd paint, t, and read... But everybdy was surprised at the scissr cuts."
At first, Reiniger wanted t be an actress, but her skill at making silhuettes drew the attentin f the German film industry. Befre 1927, films were silent. T help the audience understand the film, title cards with printed text appeared during the film between scenes. Reiniger helped create title cards fr films, using her silhuettes.
