eq \a\vs4\al(?2024·廣州質(zhì)檢?)When my 8-mnth-ld cries, I ask him if he's hungry, r wet r just needs a hug.
“Babububuu,” he says.
What I need is a baby cry translatr. That's just what a team f researchers say they've develped.
“Experienced nurses r pediatricians (兒科醫(yī)師) can identify why baby is crying because they have experience,” says Lichuan Liu, a prfessr f electrical engineering at Nrthern Illinis University, wh cnducted the research. “We talked t them, and they mentined that based n the cry's sund there're sme clues (線索).”
S Liu set ut t identify the features f cries that can help mark them as expressins f pain r discmfrt. These features include differences in pitch (音高) and frequency. The team then develped an algrithm (算法) based n autmatic speech recgnitin t detect and identify these features. This “cry language recgnitin algrithm” was trained n recrdings f baby cries taken frm a hspital. It uses cmpressed sensing, a prcess that recnstructs a signal based n incmplete data. It can identify a baby's cry against a backgrund f, say, adult speech r lud televisin sunds. By classifying different cry features, like pitch, the algrithm can suggest whether the cry is due t sickness r pain, and identify the degree f urgency.
The team had experienced pediatric care prviders assess frty-eight baby cry recrdings fr prbable cause f crying—hunger, tiredness, etc. They then cmpared these t the algrithm's assessments. The algrithm agreed with the humans 70% f the time. Generally, s-called “uncmmn cry signals” — signs f pain r sickness — are high-pitched and very lud cmpared t rdinary crying.
Liu and her team cntinue t train the technlgy fr greater accuracy. They als plan t add mre features, like the ability t identify and classify mvement and facial expressins. This culd help give a mre detailed reading f baby's emtinal (情感的) and physical state. They als hpe t begin human trials in the near future.
