It was summer, and my dad wanted t treat me t a vacatin like never befre. He decided t take me n a trip t the Wild West. We tk a plane t Albuquerque, a big city in the state f New Mexic. He was watering them every day, cleaning the balcny flr, changing the ptting sil and when the stems (莖) were thick, strng and high enugh, he started his imprvement peratin like a dctr.
My dad tk a tiny knife and with his left hand he held the stem f the carnatin and measured the height. Then he made a small mark n the stem with his finger. Afterwards he made a sharp cut with the knife, just enugh t fit in a grain f barley (插穗的芽). Then he bandaged the stem with a small bandage. His jb was then t water the plants and t take care f them. “N ne shuld tuch them” , he said t mm. Every day, when he came hme frm wrk he went straight t the balcny.
Mm used t tell us: “D nt tuch daddy’s flwers. ” Fr us it was a fascinating experience t watch hw the small stems were grwing and making flwers. When the carnatins had grwn big enugh, my dad enjyed watching them every day. We the kids did t.
