I enjy thrwing stuff away. I’d lve t g full minimalism (極簡(jiǎn)主義), but my wife and tw teenage kids d nt share my dream f a huse with almst nthing in it. I have tried. When the kids were little, I taught them my tw favrite games — “D We Need It?” and “Put It in Its Place” — and made them play every few mnths. Their enthusiasm never matched mine.
If I’m ging t be hnest, my wn tidying skills are nt as great as I’d like. My “abandned” pile is never quite the trash muntain I want because I make up excuses fr why things are useful. I cnsider this unhealthy. I want t be better at mving n.
S, this time I fund help — the classics fr peple like me: The Life-Changing Magic f Tidying Up, by Marie Knd. Can I g full Knd? I will try. One central idea is t clean by categry (類別). Yu start by cllecting all clthes and gathering them tgether fr cnsideratin. It makes yu rethink hw yu rganize. Next, hld each item and ask if it brings yu jy. This way yu’re chsing what t keep. And that’s hw I find myself with all my clthes n my bedrm flr. My wife walks by and gives me a lk that says I’m nuts. She’s prbably nt wrng.
Smewhere near the bttm f this chas is my special jacket. I mve thrugh the pile: pants, shirts, suits and shes. Then my last categry: jackets. I haven’t wrn the thing in abut 30 years. Smehw, it has survived. Nw that I’m striving t fllw Knd — surely, its time has cme?
I hld it in my hand. There is a tear just belw the cllar that widens as I hld it. It’s literally falling apart. Will I ever wear it again? Nt a chance. Des it feel gd t wear? Des it bring me jy? Actually, yes. At this mment, my daughter walks in. She asks abut the jacket. I tell her the stry. She thinks I shuld keep it. It’s cl and unique and full f memries. She is arguing that nstalgia (懷念) is the very reasn.
I’m nt entirely cnvinced by my daughter’s arguments. I believe in lking ahead, nt backward. Hwever, smetimes it’s hard t let g. S I gently place the jacket n the “keep” pile.
24.Why did my “abandned” pile never grw?
A.Because I had n time t tidy up.
B.Because I always fund my things valuable.
C.There was almst nthing in my huse already.

We can text WhatsApp, Facebk message and Snapchat — but are we lsing the cnvenience f the phne cnversatin? Wh has time t chat when yu can spend hurs n WhatsApp?
Mst f my phne calls are less than a minute lng. If I unintentinally hit answer instead f pressing ignre buttn, I usually say, “Hld n, I’ll call yu back,” befre quickly typing ut a “whatsup?” text. My list f recent phne calls is limited t fur peple and unless we live tgether, are related, r dating, there’s very little chance that yu’ll be added t that list.
It seems I’m nt the nly wh’s abandning the phne call. The average adult spends mre time n media r cmmunicatin per day than n sleeping, but amng all that cmmunicatin, the phne call is the medium that’s falling.
S why has the phne call fallen ut f favur? Many messaging apps seem t have created a grade f cmmunicatin, s that the phne call is n lnger the standard way f cnversing lng distance, but a relatively intimate thing.
Rachel, 24, says that she used t speak t all her girlfriends n the phne but nw nly calls a few. “I rarely even speak t gd friends n the phne and if they call me I’m like, ‘Hell, is smething wrng?’,” says Rachel. “If I d a phne call it feels really fficial, like it’s a big deal.”
Instead f taking the time t ring a friend and catch up, it nw seems easier t send a shrt message. And unless yu’re very clse t smene, an unscheduled phne call can feel like an intrusin. While text messages can be put t ne side fr hurs r even days, a phne call demands attentin in the mment.
But while text messages and emails may be a mre efficient way f sharing basic facts and infrmatin, they’re nt necessarily the best way f cmmunicatin. We may be cmmunicating mre than ever befre, but we seem t be listening far less.
28.What des the authr intend t tell us in paragraph 1?
A.Peple chat much less n the phne nw.B.Peple are addicted t messaging apps.
C.Peple find n time t chat face-t-face.D.Peple have many ways t cmmunicate.
29.What des the underlined wrd “abandning” in paragraph 3 mean?
A.Taking n.B.Picking ut.C.Bringing abut.D.Giving up.
30.What can be learned frm the text?
A.Text messages demand immediate attentin.
B.An unscheduled phne call may be unwelcme.
C.Peple cmmunicate less than befre.
D.It is hard t keep track f friends n messaging apps.
31.What is the authr’s attitude twards phne cnversatin?
A.Dubtful.B.Uncaring.C.Supprtive.D.Hpeful.

Many f us lve July because it’s the mnth when nature’s berries and stne fruits are in abundance. These clurful and sweet jewels frm British Clumbia’s fields are little pwerhuses f nutritinal prtectin.
Of the cmmn berries, strawberries are highest in vitamin C, althugh, because f their seeds, raspberries cntain a little mre prtein (蛋白質(zhì)), irn and zinc (nt that fruits have much prtein). Blueberries are particularly high in antixidants (抗氧化物質(zhì)). The yellw and range stne fruits such as peaches are high in the cartenids we turn int vitamin A and which are antixidants. As fr cherries (櫻桃), they are s delicius wh cares? Hwever, they are rich in vitamin C.
When cmbined with berries f slices f ther fruits, frzen bananas make an excellent base fr thick, cling fruit shakes and lw fat “ice cream”. Fr this purpse, select ripe bananas fr freezing as they are much sweeter. Remve the skin and place them in plastic bags r cntainers and freeze. If yu like, a squeeze f fresh lemn juice n the bananas will prevent them turning brwn. Frzen bananas will last several weeks, depending n their ripeness and the temperature f the freezer.
If yu have a juicer, yu can simply feed in frzen bananas and sme berries r sliced fruit. Out cmes a “sft-serve” creamy dessert, t be eaten right away. This makes a fun activity fr a children’s party; they lve feeding the fruit and frzen bananas int the tp f the machine and watching the ice cream cme ut belw.
32.What des the authr seem t like abut cherries?
A.They cntain prtein.B.They are high in vitamin A.
C.They have a pleasant taste.D.They are rich in antixidants.
33.Why is fresh lemn juice used in freezing bananas?
A.T make them smell better.B.T keep their clur.

35.Frm which is the text prbably taken?
A.A bilgy textbk.B.A health magazine.
