I was a fool to have ever thought that I could get away with notstudying?and watching MTV for hours on end. Till class eight, my father hadrefused?to get a cable connection on the grounds that I would forever be glued to the screen, not study and?fail?the exams. The year after he gave in to his desire to watch late night football, I proved him right. I failed class eight because I was in love with the Backstreet Boys and would watch MTV all the time so that I wouldn’t miss a single video. That’s the whole truth and the band will never know the price I paid for my love.?

Jason was new among the group, with the least experience and, at 43, older by a decade or more. It was his friend Andrew Munoz, 33, who introduced him to the sport. Unlike Jason, Andrew was an expert caver-a former caving guide, actually.
They hiked a bit before coming to the door, which sat in the ground—you’d miss it if you weren’t looking for it. It was 10 a.m. With their way lighted by headlamps, they walked down a narrow passage studded with sharp rocks. The silence was broken by a drip-drip-drip from above. Soon the drip turned into a light but steady flow, and they were wading in water up to their ankles, then to their shins.
Two hours later, they approached one of the features that made the cave unique: a narrow passage not big enough to stand up in that led into a short, tight downhill. This had a name: Bastard’s Crawl. Four streams met here, and indeed, the water was flowing more quickly. The sound of the water had turned into a roar. The new arrangement was a disaster. Exhausted after a day of full work, all I wanted was a hot home cooked?meal?and a good night's sleep. However, what greeted me at the table was a microwave package. Sometimes he would serve oatmeal(燕麥) for several nights in a row. One night when I dragged myself to bed, I was terrified to discover Joe had turned our white sheets blue. He told me he had found out how to save on water, soap and electricity. He?patted?his blue trousers and announced proudly washing everything together was just the secret.
Ten minutes later, ignoring Joe's warning I turned off the main route(道路). I thought it hadn't rained enough to flood the road, but as I rounded the corner, water?rushed?across my path. After a few feet, the car got stuck. I opened the door and water poured in. I hurriedly closed the door. I couldn't risk walking in this. Almost 20 minutes passed. The car began to shake. I got?frightened?to death when I heard three long honks(喇叭聲).
