Frida Kahl was brn n July 6, 1907, in Mexic City. Kahl suffered frm ill health as a child after catching pli(小兒麻痹癥) at age f 6, which made her right leg shrter and thinner than the left.
Befre her painting career, she aimed fr a career in natural sciences, but her dreams were ruined by a serius accident, which caused her pain and illness fr the rest f her life. She was paralyzed fr three mnths, alne and lnely.

Kahl married Dieg Rivera, a famus Mexican artist. They nce divrced in 1939, but remarried in 1940. Frida Kahl nce said,” I never painted dreams. I painted my wn reality.” This perfectly describes her painting style, ne drawn frm her persnal pain and tragedies. She is a self-taught artist knwn fr her self-prtraits.
Mexican culture and traditin was smething very imprtant t her, evident in many f her paintings. Aside frm her strng sense f Mexican pride, varius references t religin were als included.
Frida Kahl’s self-prtrait, Girl with Necklace, has resurfaced after 60 years f it being hidden frm the public eye. This discvery f Kahl’s painting is significant, as nly ten perfect f her wrk is available in America due t cmplex and strict exprt laws in Mexic. Her wrks are declared as “artistic mnuments” by the Mexican president and any wrks painted in Mexic must remain in Mexic. These strict laws have prduced many fakes f Kahl’s wrk.
Frida Kahl’s legacy lives n till this day, fr being nt nly a well-knwn female artist f clr, but als a breaker f cultural and scietal barriers.

The annual Internatinal Ice and Snw Sculpture Festival is Harbin’s main turist highlight. It started n January 5th, 1985, and has becme the wrld’s biggest winter festival. The cld winters are just right fr this festival.
What sets the Harbin festival apart is the size f the sculptures and the beautiful lighting. It is bigger than the nes in Sappr, Nrway, and Quebec.
At first, mainly Chinese participated, but in the last ten years, it has becme an internatinal festival and cmpetitin. As the festival grws in internatinal participatin, and as China’s ecnmy grws, the size f the snw sculptures and ice architecture exhibits keeps grwing. The wrk ging int making these exhibits is astunding, and their size and beauty are amazing. The festival is fficially held frm the end f December thrugh February. Opening dates keep changing, and ending dates partly depend n the weather.
There are plentiful flights frm Beijing t Harbin frm early in the mrning t late at night. It takes abut 3 hurs t get t Ice Festival sites, including the flight t Taiping Internatinal Airprt (2 hurs) and taxi t the sites (1hur). A return flight is abut 1,000 yuan.
Cmpared with flights, a train trip can save a lt, and bullet trains are very cmfrtable. There are five high-speed bullet trains (abut 8 hurs) and nine vernight nrmal trains frm Beijing t Harbin.
Tickets may be in big demand during the festival time s we always remind ur custmers t bk their tickets in advance if they d want t d it themselves (bullet train tickets begin t sell 20 days in advance).
