All Over the Wrld
The vast Amazn Rainfrest, the Italian city f Venice and a Mediterranean diet f fresh fruit and d these three things have in cmmn? They are all items f wrld heritage.
Wrld heritage means the invaluable things we inherit frm the past. It is a rich tapestry (織錦) f memries, bth natural and man-made. Like a time machine, heritage nt nly takes us back t ur ancestrs and even earlier, but als enables us t wnder at the natural wrld, traditins and human civilisatin.
This year marks the 45th anniversary f the first Wrld Heritage List made by the United Natins Educatinal, Scientific and Cultural Organizatin (UNESCO), and the adptin f the Wrld Heritage Cnventin (WHC).
The gal f the WHC is t encurage the glbal cmmunity (社區(qū)) f natins t identify and prtect natural and cultural sites f “utstanding universal value”. China tk part in the WHC in December 1985. By this year, 55 cultural and natural prperties in China had been added t the UNESCO list t prevent them frm damage. And related cmmittee was established t further its effrts.
UNESCO separates heritage items int three categries (類(lèi)別): natural, cultural and intangible (非物質(zhì)的).
Natural heritage usually means naturally ccurring wnders f the wrld, like the Great Barrier Reef in Australia r the Amazn in Brazil. These places recrd the nging develpment prcess f the natural wrld and are imprtant habitats fr many creatures.
Cultural heritage refers t man-made examples f natinal, ethnic r cultural heritage. Places like Mscw's Red Square can stand fr a particular mment in the civilisatin f humankind. Knwn as ne f the histric ancient buildings in China, seeing the Temple f Heaven has lng been a must when travelling in Beijing. They are valuable cultural resurces telling as much a stry f the past as a histry bk.
Intangible heritage ften includes cultural practices that are imprtant t explain the histry f the wrld. Chinese calligraphy, fr example, can reveal many things abut civilisatin, just as the city f Venice can. Fr this reasn, intangible heritage is prtected as much as physical (cultural and natural) heritage is.
Whatever frm it takes,it is wrthwhile t care and preserve every wrld heritage item. Great cntributins have been made accrdingly s far. And mre are n the way t prmte this cause. Therefre, this summer, jin us n a jurney as we explre sme f ur wrld heritage. Get ready t be amazed!

Mst yung kids are very self-centred mst f the time. It's like their brain metres are stuck n “selfish”. This certainly described me, until I met my dear grandmther.
My father had been brn in Japan, and he had many ld phtgraphs f the palatial (宮殿般的) estate that had belnged t his family thrugh many generatins. He tld me stries f grgeus rms full f glden furniture and silk wall papers. He als described magnificent gardens, full f the sweet scents f extic flwers and the gentle thin stream f graceful funtains.
Frm all these, I figured my grandmther must be rich. I had never met her befre she came frm Japan, but at eight, I reasned that if I were nice t her, she wuld take me back t Japan t live in luxury. It was a gd plan, I thught, and I vwed t spend time with my grandmther s she wuld grw t lve me and want me t accmpany her upn her return.
We went t pick her up at the airprt. “There she is!” my father called. I expected t see sme ryal kimn-clad (穿著和服的) creature like I'd seen in pictures. Instead, I saw a tiny wman with silver hair, wearing an rdinary blue suit. She did nt lk wealthy t me. Still, I vwed t be attentive, t make myself indispensable t her during her stay.
T get clser t her, I flattered her int telling me stries abut ld Japan. She enjyed making needle craft with delicate designs, and as she wrked, she wve tales f Japanese legends and histry as delicate and beautiful as the designs she created. I listened, fascinated. Her wrds were a mix f the tw languages, s I didn't cmpletely understand everything at first. Interestingly, hwever, as her English imprved, s did my understanding f Japanese.

I learned the true meaning f wealth—nt the grgeus rms r magnificent gardens but the lve amng family members and the understanding f ne's rt culture.
Mst yung kids are very self-centred mst f the time. It's like their brain metres are stuck n “selfish”. This certainly described me, until I met my dear grandmther.
N ne spke f her ging back, and I was like an__ant__n__a__ht__pt.
an ant n a ht pt意為“熱鍋上的螞蟻”。
My dreams f a luxurius life had been brken.
