Shortly after her daughter Kate’s birth, Catherine decided she wanted a close bond with a dog for Kate. Thus, Catherine called the dog shelter close by to inquire about adoption. After hearing about the available animals, she chose a Doberman Pinscher. Once they signed adoption papers, they named the dog Khan. Catherine was hopeful this would provide valuable lessons for her baby, such as sharing, learning to love and responsibility to care for animals. She was looking forward to having the dog join the family. Hearing of Khan’s rough background, Catherine immediately loved the dog. She was overjoyed to bring this special dog back to her family. Of course, she realized there were risks involved. Well, the obvious risks from bringing a large, potentially dangerous animal to her young baby, Catherine pushed them aside. If she had not adopted Khan, he would have been killed just a week later. So, this was his new life and second chance, and the family was hoping for the best. Everything began smoothly. They trained Khan during the first few days. However, everything changed on that fourth day when the dog acted completely out of character. The fateful day began with the usual playtime in the yard. Although baby Kate had her parents watching from a distance, they did not notice anything out of the ordinary. Kate and the new dog had been making a habit of playing out back like this. However, things were different this day. So what was actually happening out there? The two were not being loud or crazy. They began running through the backyard grass together. Again, Catherine watched the two closely. Surprisingly, things had changed within an instant! Khan began acting wildly all of a sudden, _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ Obviously, it was Khan who saved her baby but he barked weakly and then fell down with dying eyes. _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ One possible version: Khan began acting wildly all of a sudden. With her mouth wide open, Catherine watched Khan dragging her child, hoping he would stop. Just as she was wondering how he could suddenly become this way, Khan put down Kate outside the yard. Catherine rushed to Kate and carried her to safety while Khan barked towards the yard wildly. Catherine returned, only to find a poisonous snake crawling in the yard and she drove it away. Obviously, it was Khan who saved her baby but he barked weakly and then collapsed with dying eyes. Khan protected Kate from the poisonous creature and was attacked. Although living with the family for merely four days, he became the protector as Catherine had hoped. Catherine rushed Khan to the vet. “May God bless you”, Catherine murmured. The vet tried his best to save him. Eventually, he made it and Catherine shed a tear of relief. 1. a pair of large watery eyes 一雙水汪汪的大眼睛 2. two big round eyes 兩只圓溜溜的大眼睛 3. beady/sparkling/twinkling eyes 小珠般圓亮的/亮晶晶的/閃閃發(fā)亮的 眼睛 4. a nose like a small black gem 一顆黑寶石般的鼻子 5. long/muscular/skinny/spindly legs 長的/肌肉發(fā)達(dá)的/皮包骨的/干瘦的 腿 6. fur is as white as snow 皮毛像雪一樣潔白 7. a long little tail 一條長長的小尾巴 2、動作 wag the tail 搖尾巴 smell/sniff 嗅 bark/yap/yelp 狗吠 lick 舔 put the ears up 把耳朵豎起來 shake the whole body 抖動全身 bite the corner of the coat 咬住衣角 rub their necks and backs with their paws 用爪子摩擦它們的脖子和背部 hold it tightly with the paws 用爪子緊緊按住 fall on its back 摔得四腳朝天 run around me 圍著我跑 keep scratching you with his front paws 用前爪不停撓你 raise its whole body on its hind legs 用后腿支起全身 leap to its feet 跳起來 rest the nose in its paws 把鼻子擱在爪子里 keep its fore legs doubled up 保持前腿彎曲 3、高興 They were glad to see Poppy coming?back to her usual self(他們很高興看到Poppy又回到以前的自己), guiding the little dog on daily walks and even introducing to it her favorite toys.(2020年1月高考浙江卷) Smiling ever so bright(笑得更加燦爛。), he called out to his?parents, who tugged him in for a long?hug. How I wished that I could fly out of the?icy?water like a bird!?After what seemed to be ages,?Harry?returned to the?pond, with a long oak branch in his hand. Where?have?you?been?” she said in surprise.?“You're completely wet.” “It’s Harry’s fault!” I complained to her through my chattering teeth. After that, mum dressed me in a warm?coat, wrapped me in a blanket and poured me a cup of hot milk. She sat next to me, smiling, relieved that I was all right. Sure enough, my brother was?criticized?by mum for his lack of safety awareness. (02) Paragraph 1:Sam arrived very early the next morning. He rang the doorbell and politely waited for Mrs. Proudfoot to answer. Then he could hear Roland barking and whining inside, frantic to get out. Sam stood by the door, debating with himself whether to walk the unfriendly dog to help his best friend. After a while, the door flung open and Mrs. Proudfoot came out, greeting him with a beaming smile. Surprisingly, the lazy dog grinned up at him and wagged his tail, eager to go out with him. Mrs. Proudfoot put a leash on the dog, stroked his glossy head and said, “Have a good time, dear!” Without saying goodbye, Sam and the dog danced around and then dashed out of the house. Paragraph 2:A month later, Mrs. Proudfoot was delighted to find Roland fit and energetic. Obviously, Sam’s efforts paid off—Roland was healthy and active. But what pleased her most was that Sam, together with the other kids, would stay with her on weekends, chatting and laughing. Besides, they would help her clean up the yard. From then on, laughter filled her house and she no longer felt lonely. Then came the moment Sam had been looking forward to—the day he was paid for his work. What a big surprise! Tears of gratitude welled up in Barry’s eyes as he knew what Sam had done for him. Sam just stood there, smiling, glad that he could wholeheartedly support his friend when he was in trouble. (03) Paragraph 1: All of a sudden, Betty felt something touching the bottom of her foot. What was that? She wondered. A sea fish? Before she could get on the surfboard, it bumped her in the foot once again. She suddenly had the feeling that an enormous fish, bigger than her, was circling around her. A chill feeling crept up her spine as she thought of the joke Uncle Mark played on her. And then Betty saw it: a gray triangle fin sticking up through the water, heading right for her. It was a shark, a massive shark that was swimming around, not far away from her. For a split second, her heart practically skipped a beat. Paragraph 2: “Help! Help!” Betty screamed in horror. Hearing the terrible scream for help, Uncle Mark instantly realized that something bad was happening. Without thinking, he swam as quickly as he could towards Betty and yelled, “Get out! ...” But Betty seemed stuck, too scared to move. At the very moment, the shark’s jaws opened wide, showing rows of razor-sharp teeth. With all his might, Uncle Mark stabbed it in the mouth with his surfboard, scaring the monster away. And then he grabbed hold of Betty’s arm and dragged her to the beach. All this took only a few minutes, but Betty would never forget the frightening experience. (04) Paragraph 1:?He was sentenced to be torn by a lion in the public arena (競技場).?The terrifying day finally arrived. Paragraph 2:?However, the lion didn’t act as most had imagined.?Much to their?surprise, the savage beast stopped short , knelt down and then?lickedthe slave’s hands and feet. He behaved like a pet dog. And then he let out a low roar, as if whispering to his friend, “Didn’t you recognize me?” Indeed, it was the very lion the slave had helped in the?forest. Sighing with?relief, the slave stroked his neck?gently, tears of?gratitude?welling up in his eyes. So moved were people by the story that they begged the master to set free the slave and the lion. One good turn deserves another, and in the end, Androcles, the slave, became a free man. (05) Paragraph 1:?I entered the shop, and one of the salesmen came to me. I couldn't believe my eyes.?Surely, it was my long-lost friend, Arthur, always wearing a warm smile. What a coincidence that Arthur would appear in front of me when I had?trouble! I thought. For a second, I stared at him in disbelief, my mouth hanging open. In the meanwhile Tom instantly recognized me and he gave me a huge hug. “What brings you here?” he asked with a puzzled expression on his face. So I told him that my?car?got a flat tire and that considering the poor road condition, it might?broke downon my way back home. Knowing what had happened to me, he said that he would be glad to give me a hand again. Paragraph 2:?After a while, they quickly drove a pick-up truck to my car and started it.?After listening to the sound of the engine, Arthur told me that there was nothing wrong with it. And then they started to fix the tire and we chatted?happily. Arthur told me that the?thank-you note?from me inspired him to live a?meaningful?life by helping others. Soon afterwards, he got the tire fixed. He got up, wiped the sweat from his face and wished me a pleasant journey. I couldn’t thank him enough. Many years have passed, but I will never forget the lesson Arthur taught me: Life is meaningful when you can give a hand to those in trouble. (06) Paragraph 1:?A few minutes later, the bear headed back to our camp.?He exposed his sharp teeth, snarling at us, as he?ran?forward. And again the furious creature stood on his back legs and began to snap at the?fence?like a demon. It seemed that his mouth was dripping with blood and his eyes were red with rage. At the sight of it, I could feel a flicker of fear flooding over me, and?Ellis?was stunned, her mouth hanging open. It was only then that my mind began to race. Once again, I plucked my courage to blast him with pepper?spray, but without success. Then all of a sudden, came a crash of the fence falling down. Paragraph 2:?At that very moment, the helicopter arrived.?It landed in a clearing, not far from our camp, and the loud?noises?from the rescue helicopter scared the bear. For an instant, he froze, but after a while, he started to charge at us again. "Ellis!" I shrieked, "Look out!" We immediately stepped aside, spun round and galloped towards the helicopter. The moment we were into the helicopter, we collapsed, gasping with relief. As it took off, we could see the bear was hungrily eating the?bread?we had made. What a hungry bear! After we returned home?safe?and sound, we realized that something should be done for bears. (07) Paragraph 1:?Looking over my shoulder, I stared into the flashing lights of a truck.?A familiar figure leaped out,?rushed?towards me and waded into the water. Thank goodness, it was?Joe?who came to my rescue. However, the water was running so rapidly that he had to go back.?Frightened?and a little angry, I could hardly help shedding tears. How I wished that my husband were like a superman who could save me from disaster. But, after a while, it turned out that Joe returned with one end of a rope in his hand and the other end tied to the truck. He?struggled?to throw the rope to me and?shouted, "Catch! Open the door!" Paragraph 2:?I screamed that I couldn't make it.?At that moment, the sound of the raging water outside grew louder, and the car rocked more violently. Worse still, the water came up to Joe’s waist and he almost lost his footing in the water. After several vain attempts, Joe?realized?that there was no chance to make it. He put every ounce of strength into getting close to me and said soothingly, "Don't panic, honey! I'm here." With Joe's help, I burst the door open, and Joe immediately tied the rope around my waist. The moment we pulled ourselves out of the water, the car was washed away. What a narrow escape! I hugged Joe tightly, happiness and love welling up inside me. It's getting hot. It's time to put on lighter clothes and open up the windows. I can't wait to do so. Yesterday, an unforeseen visit to the kitchen happened during the brief time we were out. Two daring sparrows (麻雀) had risked landing on our territory to enjoy the freshness in our sink and some other breadcrumbs (面包屑) on our kitchen counter. Actually, sparrows are everywhere. The tiny, gray -and brown birds are found on every continent except Antarctica, flying or jumping around cities, picking up leftover food on side-walks, and sometimes chasing with native bird species. These small creatures have adapted to living alongside humans- similar to pet dogs. When you come across such sudden callers, you are likely to sense it as an unwanted visitor into your comfort zone, or you might receive it as a lovely angel of life. I chose the second option, with no hesitation while my husband preferred driving them away. After all, I've never come to stop to feel the relationship with sparrows. I recalled when I was a little girl living in the city, I lived in an apartment with a flat roof viewed from our kitchen window. Every day my mom and I would go out to feed the sparrows. She taught me how to call them with a clicking sound she made with her tongue. I have loved sparrows ever since. So every day in my spare time, I can't stop observing and celebrating their dance from our window. I stuffed them with the leftovers on our tablecloth after every meal. And I have provided them with every kind of bases and stands of our house. Undoubtedly, they feel at ease in our backyard. And that has led them to gather up courage and slide into our kitchen, bedroom or even reading room. Perhaps because they have the feeling that we don' t consider them trouble makers, but friendly neighbors. But I am slightly worried about their droppings (糞便). One day, they left some droppings in my husband's reading room. _______________________________________________________________________________ About two weeks later, I heard my husband calling “Oh, my God!” _______________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One day, they left some droppings in my husband 's reading room. They happened to dirty his important work reports on the desk. He was so angry that he asked me to close the windows. I immediately did a thorough cleaning and promised that the doors and windows of the reading room will be closed tightly, and the sparrows can't break in again. My husband kept silent, and at last he calmed down. I know he is a caring person, who always loves animals. About two weeks later, I heard my husband calling “Oh, my God !” Thinking something similar happened again, I ran over to have a look. He was looking out of the window and said excitedly, “Look! What a surprise! There are three eggs in the sparrow's nest! They 're going to have babies of their own!” He was happy, like a child and unconsciously opened the closed window. After that, there are always breadcrumbs on the window platform of the reading room. 如:do a thorough cleaning, break in,run over, have a look等高級詞匯;結(jié)果狀語從句,如He was so angry that he asked me to close the windows;賓語從句,如I immediately did a thorough cleaning and promised that the doors and windows of the reading room will be closed tightly, and the sparrows can't break in again;定語從句,如I know he is a caring person, who always loves animals等高級句式。 “I’m going to miss you so much, Poppy,” said the tall, thin teenager. He bent down to hug his old friend goodbye. He stood up, hugged his parents, and smiled, trying not to let his emotions (情緒) get the better of him. His parents were not quite able to keep theirs under control. They had driven their son several hours out of town to the university where he would soon be living and studying. It was time to say goodbye for now at least. The family hugged and smiled through misty eyes and then laughed. The boy lifted the last bag onto his shoulder, and flashed a bright smile. “I guess this is it.” he said. “I’ll see you back home in a month, okay?” His parents nodded, and they watched as he walked out of sight into the crowds of hundreds of students and parents. The boy’s mother turned to the dog, “Okay, Poppy, time to go back home.” The house seemed quiet as a tomb without the boy living there. All that week, Poppy didn’t seem interested in her dinner, her favorite toy, or even in her daily walk. Her owners were sad too, but they knew their son would be back to visit, Poppy didn’t. They offered the dog some of her favorite peanut butter treats. They even let her sit on the sofa, but the old girl just wasn’t her usual cheerful self. Her owners started to get worried, “What should we do to cheer Poppy up?” asked Dad. “We’ve tried everything.” “I have an idea, but it might be a little crazy,” smiled Mom. “Without anybody left in the house but us, this place could use a bit of fun. Let’s get a little dog for Poppy.” It didn’t take long before they walked through the front door carrying a big box. Poppy welcomed them home as usual, but when she saw the box, she stopped. She put her nose on it. We were staying at a research camp outside “ the polar bear capital of the world ” — the town of Churchill in Manitoba, Canada. Taking pictures of polar bears is amazing but also dangerous. Polar bears — like all wild animals — should be photographed from a safe distance. When I’m face to face with a polar bear, I like it to be through a camera with a telephoto lens. But sometimes, that is easier said than done. This was one of those times. As Elli and I cooked dinner, a young male polar bear who was playing in a nearby lake sniffed, and smelled our garlic bread. The hungry bear followed his nose to our camp, which was surrounded by a high wire fence. He pulled and bit the wire. He stood on his back legs and pushed at the wooden fence posts. Terrified, Elli and I tried all the bear defense actions we knew. We yelled at the bear, hit pots hard, and fired blank shotgun shells into the air. Sometimes loud noises like these will scare bears off. Not this polar bear though — he just kept trying to tear down the fence with his massive paws (爪子). I radioed the camp manager for help. He told me a helicopter was on its way, but it would be 30 minutes before it arrived. Making the best of this close encounter (相遇), I took some pictures of the bear. Elli and I feared the fence wouldn’t last through 30 more minutes of the bear’s punishment. The camp manager suggested I use pepper spray. The spray burns the bears’ eyes, but doesn’t hurt them. So I approached our uninvited guest slowly and, through the fence, sprayed him in the face. With an angry roar (吼叫), the bear ran to the lake to wash his eyes. Para 1: A few minutes later, the bear headed back to our camp. ___________________ _________________________________________________________________ Para 2: At that very moment, the helicopter arrived. _____________________________ _________________________________________________________________ One possible version: Para 1: A few minutes later, the bear headed back to our camp. Then we realized that the spray had only angered him even more, for he seemed much fiercer this time and violently pushed the fence like mad. My heart raced wildly, not knowing what to do. At this critical moment, Elli grabbed several pieces of garlic bread and threw them over the fence. It worked! The bear stopped the attack and ran to the bread. But it wasn’t long before he ate up all the bread and came back again. Para 2: At that very moment, the helicopter arrived. “Thank goodness we are saved!” Elli cried out. Once the helicopter landed, we got onto it in no time, excited and relieved. When we were safe on the helicopter up in the air, I was amazed to spot that the bear had finally torn down the fence and ran towards the food we left behind. I quickly took out the camera and photographed the rare scene — we were robbed by a polar bear!
