The wrld's animal ppulatins have decreased by mre than tw-thirds since 1970, accrding t recent research frm the Wrld Wildlife Fund (WWF).
The Lndn grup prvided infrmatin n 32,000 wildlife ppulatins which included mre than 5,000 species. The researchers fund that ppulatin sizes had reduced by 69 percent n average. They said the lss f frests, human explitatin(開發(fā)) f the envirnment, pllutin, and climate change were majr causes f the lss. Land-use change is still the biggest threat t wildlife. Hwever, the researchers added, "If we cannt limit warming t 1.5℃, climate change is likely t becme the primary cause f bidiversity(生物多樣性) lss in the cming years."
Wildlife ppulatins in Latin America and the Caribbean Sea area were greatly affected. The research shwed a 94 percent drp in thse areas in ver 50 years. Wildlife ppulatins in river and lake habitats decreased the mst. Freshwater ppulatins have reduced by an average f 83 percent since1970. Fr example, the ppulatin f pink river dlphins in the Amazn River area f Brazil fell by 65percent between 1994 and 2016.
These findings are a red flag that warns f a larger system failure n the hrizn. Even ne species' ppulatin reductin can affect ther species, eventually impacting the ecsystem's ability t functin. Humans depend n a stable climate, predictable weather patterns, and prductive farmland and fisheries t develp, but the current trends are severe enugh t threaten many life-sustaining systems.
Our future depends n reversing(扭轉(zhuǎn)) the lss f nature just as much as it depends n addressing climate change. And yu can't slve ne withut slving the ther.
