Taking place n the fifteenth day f the first mnth f the lunar year, the Lantern Festival is generally celebrated in February r March. On this day, peple carry r display traditinal paper lanterns and slve riddles. As it is a ppular festival fr Chinese peple arund the wrld, it is celebrated in many different cuntries, even in the West.
“Cming f age” refers t the time when a persn makes the transitin frm childhd int adulthd. In Japan, this has been a natinal hliday since 1948. Originally, it was celebrated n 15 January every year. Hwever, in 2000 it was changed t the secnd Mnday in January. On this day, everyne wh has turned 20 in the last year is frmally recgnised as an adult. T celebrate, many attend ceremnies at lcal gvernment ffices. They may als g t a Shint shrine r a Buddhist temple. The Carnival is a jyus festival celebrated in Cathlic cuntries arund the wrld in the days befre Lent (n the Christian calendar, Lent takes up the frty days befre Easter). Usually, the Carnival ccurs in late February r early March. By far the biggest Carnival is in Ri de Janeir, Brazil, where mre than tw millin peple take part in the yearly festivities.
