One day recently, Laurie Fenby was shopping at a garage sale in Rochester New York and as she was leaving, she found a wallet on the ground.
Laurie looked inside and found a Jamaican (牙買加人的) driver’s license, some American cash and some Jamaican cash. She tried all the usual ways to find the man, whose name was George. She couldn’t find him through Google or Facebook and then she asked for suggestions through Next door, a community website. Laurie received a lot of ideas and responses-some of them were not so positive. But one lady advised her to contact a little store that is known to have many Jamaican migrant workers as clients. Laurie called the store and found that yes, indeed, there was someone named George who lost his wallet.
Laurie suggested that the store owner contact George and have him call her. When George contacted her he was able to identify everything in the wallet and Laurie was able to return it. But it didn’t stop there. Laurie asked George, “What do you and the migrant workers need?” He said they need some warm clothes. Laurie immediately contacted the community and was able to organize a clothing drive. She received lots of coats, jackets, shoes and other supplies. Recently Laurie met George and the other migrant workers in Rochester, and she joined them to pick apples together.
They were so thankful to Laurie and her friends-and none of this community building or friendship would have happened if the wallet had stayed in George’s pocket.

These days, football is one of the most popular sports in the world. Considering that Neil Armstrong wanted to take a football to the Moon, we could even say that it is also the most popular sport out of this world!
The history of the game goes back over two thousand years to ancient China. It was then known as cuju (kick ball), a game using a ball of animal skins with hair inside. Goals were hung in the air. Football as we know it today started in Great Britain, where the game was given new rules.
That football is such a simple game to play is perhaps the basis of its popularity. It is also a game that is very cheap to play. You don't need expensive equipment; even the ball doesn't have to cost much money. All over the world you can see kids playing to their hearts' content with a ball made of plastic bags, just like Pele did when he was a boy.
Another factor behind football's global popularity is the creativity and excitement on the field. It is fun enough to attract millions of people. You do not have to be a fan to recognise the skill of professional players-how they use their bodies to pass, score and defend can be amazing to see-or to feel the excitement of a game ending with a surprising twist.
What's more, football has become one of the best ways for people to communicate. It does not require words, but everyone understands it. It breaks down walls and brings people together on and off the field. Take, for example, the famous football game on Christmas Day 1914, World War I had broken out months before, but British and German soldiers put down their guns and played football together-one moment of peace to remember during years of conflict.
"Some people believe football is a matter of life and death ..." said Bill Shankly, the famous footballer and manager. "I can assure you it is much, much more important than that." This might sound funny, but one only has to think about the earth to realise that our planet is shaped like a football.
28. About the development of football, we know that ________.
A the history of football dates back to ancient China
B. Neil Armstrong once took a football to the moon
C. the goal of ancient football was fixed on the ground
D. the rules of football have never been changed
29. According to the text, football is popular because ________.
A. Pele played football
B. it is given new rules
C. it is simple, cheap and fun to play
D. it attracts many professional players
30. What can we learn from the last two paragraphs?
A World War I was over.
B. British soldiers wanted to win the war.
C. Football is not important.
D. Football can help people to communicate.
D
A new University College London-led study finds that staring at a deep red light for three minutes a day can greatly improve declining (下降) eyesight.
Scientists believe the discovery, published in the Journal of Gerontology, could signal the dawn of new affordable home-based eye therapies (治療) helping millions of people globally with naturally declining vision.
Doctors say a three-minute daily does of the special red light for two weeks could help improve age-related vision problems. However, they say not any red light will help improve eyesight. The lead author, Professor Glen Jeffery said, "I strongly suggest that people should not just go and buy a red light online. They have to produce the right wavelength. We are looking for a commercial partner to do this and to price them at $20 to $25."
The study was carried out by a team from University College London. Researchers conducted tests on 24 men and women aged between 28 and 72. They said some cells that could help us process light had become worse in the older people. Doctors say the red light improved the ability of these people to detect different colors, particularly blue. The vision of these older people improved by as much as 22 percent, Jeffrey said, "Populations are ageing rapidly and this is going to be a major issue in the future. We need to get ready for this." He added, "If you can't see clearly, you can't read or watch TV. You also tend to fall down and break bones. Our lights are a step in this direction."
31. What is the function of Paragraph1?
A. To lead to the main topic. B. To discuss the study.
C. To introduce a university. D. To give some advice.
32. What can we infer from Paragraph 3?
A. Red light only lasts three minutes.
B. The red light with the right wavelength can be helpful.
C. Everyone needs to buy a red light online.
D. Doctors need partners to sell red lights.
33. What does the last paragraph mainly talk about?
A. The problem of populations. B. The process and results of the study.
C. The vision of the old people. D. The usage of different colors.
34. Where does the passage most probably come from?
A. A medical magazine. B. A story book.
C. A book review. D. A history book.

A. the history of football dates back to ancient China
A. World War I was over.
B. British soldiers wanted to win the war.
C. Football is not important.
D. Football can help people to communicate.

Never Too Old to Shine
When Wang Deshun showed on the stage as a male model in his late 70s, many thought he had reached his apex (頂點(diǎn)). However, the 85-year-old showed them he's still flying.
The white-bearded Wang took flight in Beijing Miyun District in a SW100 light aircraft on Aug 17, 2021. During the course of the flight, he completed turns and climbs on his own, becoming the oldest person to undertake flight training in China.
His physical stats proved enough to apply for a flight license due to his many years of exercise. At Miyun Airport in Beijing, he was guided by a professional team that made a training plan for him.
“I've been dreaming of flying for more than 50 years so I thought I should learn. I thought I could do this," Wang said.
This is not the first time Wang has wowed (使喝彩) his fellow Chinese citizens. Born in a rural family in Shengyang,Liaoning Province in 1936, Wang started to work as a bus conductor and then a factory worker. In 1960, he became a stage actor and appeared in bit parts in films such as Brave Journey to Northeast and Miss Granny.
Wang continued to challenge himself throughout his life. At 44 he learned English, and at 50 he began fitness training. He learnt to ride a horse at 65, to ride a motorcycle at 78, and hit the catwalk at 79, when he took part in Beijing Fashion Week and rose to social media fame. Walking down the catwalk completely shirtless, he wowed audiences and was nicknamed "China's hottest grandpa".
"It's never too old to have your dream," he said. "Age has never been a problem. Just do it."
45. What did Wang Deshun do on Aug 17, 2021?
46. What was Wang's first job in his life?

【答案】參考答案:
Dear Jim,
I am so delighted to hear from you. Welcome to spend the Spring Festival in China!
There are some interesting customs during the Spring Festival. We do a thorough cleaning before the festival and put paper cutting on windows to decorate the room. Usually, we stay up to watch the Spring Festival Gala. Children will receive red-bags and family will eat dumplings together. There are also some other activities, such as dancing or setting off fireworks.
Normally, the weather during the festival is rather cold, so you’d better take some warm clothes.
I’m sure you will have a good time and spend a wonderful festival Looking forward to your coming.
Yours,
Li Hua
