Ⅱ.閱讀理解(4選1)Taking breaks while studying contributes to better learning in a number of ways, and creates a major impact on the process of learning. Find out why a study break is essential, and how it helps you score the best. Scientists conclude that the brain stops registering a constant stimulation over a gradual period of time, and declares it to be unimportant. The brain decodes(譯解) a monotonous(單調(diào)的)activity and gets habituated to it,no longer stimulating the brain to act in any way. Once this happens, you find yourself unable to concentrate, thereby destroying the purpose of a study session. A“break”does just that. It breaks the monotony for the brain. A change in place,a walk around the block,a cup of coffee—these little things can be limited in your study sessions to relax the mind, break the monotony, improve concentration levels, and finally assist the learning process. The purpose of a study session is to study as much as possible and remember most of what has been learnt in it. To be able to achieve this,it is absolutely necessary to continuously stay focused. It is highly likely that long hours of studying can become monotonous and cause you to believe that you are“learning”,when you are just“reading”. A short rest eases your stressed mind, brings you back on track, and allows you to start studying with new-found focus levels. With a relaxed mind, improved concentration and focus levels, and a better capacity to retain information,it is obvious that your study session with breaks will turn out to be more productive, and you will get more benefits than you previously did. Put more such better yielding study sessions together, and what do you get? Perfect grades and a winner of the“race”. 1. What can the underlined word“habituated”in the second paragraph be replaced by?A. Accustomed. B. Absorbed. C. Attached. D. Related. 2. What should students do to study as much as possible?A. Help each other. B. Remain concentrated. C. Improve ways of learning. D. Give up the learning process. 3. If you have a good attitude to study, how your study will be?A. Efficient. B. Improved. C. Interesting. D. Easy. 4. What can be concluded from the passage?A. Students should concentrate on their study. B. Students should take breaks after learning for long hours. C. Teachers had better have a good rest before their lessons. D. Teachers had better be strict with their students in learning ways. 第三部分 閱讀表達(dá)練 Ⅰ.閱讀理解 (7選5)How to keep your child interested in Space Science Does your child wish to explore our galaxy(星系)? Does Space Science fascinate him? 1 . Instead, keep fuelling his interest. Read on to find out what you should do. Excelling in academics and physical fitness are the key points for being selected as candidates(候選人). Involve your child and, maybe, his friends or cousins,in getting the props, settings and costumes ready. 4 . That way,the preparation will be a learning experience for your child. 3. Go on field trips. Whenever there is a satellite launch or an eclipse, make sure you get your child to watch it. If you can do it live, there is nothing like it. As a result,I had no close friends, mostly keeping to myself with my head buried in a book, which is why I was so surprised when Ashley and I became friends the summer before sophomore year(大二). Ashley was very different from me. She was outspoken and fashionable. She listened to the bands I had never heard of and was very artistic. These were qualities I knew nothing about. We had always been in the same classes throughout school, but had never really talked much. During summer schools we were both taking classes in hopes of graduating early. The teacher paired us up on an assignment(任務(wù)). Ashley seemed unwilling to work with me at first, but she gave in. I imagine, because none of her“cool” friends were in the class. We met at the library to work on the project and really hit it off. We sat by each other the rest of the summer and when classes ended,we continued to hang out. I looked up to Ashley;she was all of the things I thought I wanted to be. I began listening to the music she listened to,and wearing the clothes she wore. I started watching the TV programs Ashley watched. When we started school again,Ashley introduced me to her group of friends. Finally I fit in. I followed them around, laughing when they told jokes, and agreeing when they had opinions. One day,I overheard their talk in the school canteen(食堂).“She’s such a loser,”one girl said.“I know,Ashley. She just follows you around trying to be you. She copies you;she doesn’t have a personality of her own,”another girl added. Then Ashley replied,“I know. I wish she would leave us alone. We were in summer school together and now she thinks we’re best friends or something.”注意:續(xù)寫詞數(shù)應(yīng)為150左右。 It was the first time that I had felt heartbroken. I told my mother what had happened that night. 參考答案 Period Ⅴ WRITING WORKSHOP,VIEWING WORKSHOP & READING CLUBS 1~2 第一部分 基礎(chǔ)知識練Ⅰ.單詞拼寫1. gender 2. identical 3. expose 4. evidence5. outcome 6. My hands were shaking,my face felt hot,and my eyes began to well with uncontrollable tears. How had this happened? I thought we were friends. I didn’t know she thought of me in that way. Had I always been a burden to them? I couldn’t stay there and listen anymore. I got up and ran out of the door. The girls sitting in the canteen fell silent as they realized I had heard the whole conversation(sitting in the canteen是現(xiàn)在分詞短語作定語,as引導(dǎo)時(shí)間狀語從句,I had heard the whole conversation是賓語從句). I told my mother what had happened that night. She just held me while I cried. I wanted to hide myself in my bed and stay there forever, but I knew I would have to go back eventually. The advice my mother gave was so simple(my mother gave是定語從句,修飾the advice). I had heard it a million times, but this time I truly understood it. You can just be yourself and people will like you for who you are. Then and there I decided I should stop crying and discover who I am. That was exactly what I did(what引導(dǎo)表語從句).
