While exercise is a big part f reducing the harmful effects f sitting, it was unclear hw many gym perids were needed t help – until nw.
A new study, published in The Lancet, shws the ideal frmula fr reducing the negative effects f a sedentary(久坐的)jb. There are gd evlutinary reasns t aid relatives, after all. Nw, it seems, family feelings may stir in plants as well.
A Canadian bilgist planted the seed f the idea mre than a decade ag, but many plant bilgists regarded it as heretical—plants lack the nervus systems that enable animals t recgnize kin(家族), s hw can they knw their relatives? But with a series f recent findings, the belief that plants really d care fr their mst genetically clse peers—in a quiet, planty way—is taking rt. Sme species cntrl hw far their rts spread, thers change hw many flwers they prduce, and a few tilt(傾斜) r shift their leaves t minimize shading f neighbring plants, favring related individuals.
“We need t recgnize that plants nt nly sense whether it’s light r dark r if they’ve been tuched, but als whm they are interacting with,” says Susan Dudley, a plant evlutinary eclgist, whse early plant kin recgnitin studies sparked the interest f many scientists.
Beynd bradening views f plant behavir, the new wrk may have a practical side. In September 2018, a team in China reprted that rice planted with kin grws better, a finding that suggested family ties can be used t imprve crp yields. “It seems anytime anyne lks fr it, they find a kin effect,” says Andre Kessler, a chemical eclgist at Crnell University.

25.(10分) As parents, we want ur children t reach their full academic ptential. We read t them, encurage their special talents, and supprt them when they have prblems. If they chse t participate in music r sprts, we als help them reach their ptential in thse areas. These are all gd gals.
There is, hwever, an even mre imprtant gal. It is a gal mre difficult than excellence in arithmetic r sccer r the vilin. Parents are respnsible fr prviding their children with a mral cmpass. Reinfrcement is smetimes an efficient apprach t building psitive behavir. The child behaves in a desired way and the parents prvide reinfrcement. The behavir then typically increases in frequency. This apprach wrks fr teaching “Please” and “Thank yu”. The new behavir is maintained, because it helps the child get alng in the wrld.
Lving, everyday interactins are the beginning f raising mral children. The child wh falls and receives adult cncern learns hw t treat thers kindly when they stumble (絆倒). The child wh makes a mistake and is encuraged t try again learns hw t supprt thers. When parents intercede (調(diào)解) graciusly fr their child, the child can see the basis fr friendship.
