過去進行時
1. 概念: 表示過去某個時刻或過去一段時間正在進行的動作。
2. 句子結構: 主語 + was/were + ding sth. + 時間狀語
3. 時間狀語詞: at 5:00 yesterday afternn, at that time, then 等連用, 或者用另一動作來表示過去的時間。如：
They were playing basketball when she arrived.
While they were playing basketball, she arrived.
過去進行時與一般過去時的區(qū)別
過去進行時著重描述當時正在持續(xù)進行的動作，它的特點是：暫時，持續(xù)和未完成，強調過程；一般過去時表示發(fā)生過的動作或存在的狀態(tài)，即表示動作發(fā)生過，而且已經(jīng)結束了，強調結果。

was making 表示正在做衣服的過程，如用made 則表示這一動作已結束，做衣服的動作已結束與 cut her finger就沒有聯(lián)系。

wrte 表示動作已結束，做另一件事，如用was writing 就與 went t bed 在邏輯上相矛盾。
過去進行時側重表示動作延長的時間長度; 一般過去時表示過去某時發(fā)生過某事，側重說明事實。

（說明他寫了……的事實）
注：下列幾類動詞通常不用過去進行時。
① 表示狀態(tài)的動詞 be；
② 感官動詞：feel, hear, see, smell, taste等;
③ 表示思維或心理狀態(tài)的動詞：believe (認為), frget, cnsider, knw, remember, hpe, wish, want 等；
④ 表示所屬關系的動詞：belng, have, wn, hld (容納)等。
when, while
區(qū)別：
1. 由when引導的時間狀語從句，主句用過去進行時，從句應用一般過去時；
由while引導的時間狀語從句，主句用一般過去時，從句應用過去進行時。
When the teacher came in, we were talking.
當此句改變主從句的位置時，則為：
While we were talking, the teacher came in.
2. 如果從句和主句的動作同時發(fā)生，兩句都用過去進行時的時候，多用while引導。如：
They were singing while we were dancing.
