Part 2

There are a lot of names for people who travel the world—backpackers, tourists, explorers, travelers. Labels (標(biāo)簽) are everywhere but seem especially popular among travelers trying to differentiate (區(qū)別) their style of travel. For many travelers, these labels make them feel better over another.
Andrew Zimmern from Bizarre Foods once said, “Please be a traveler, not a tourist. Try new things, meet new people, and look beyond what’s right in front of you. Those are the keys to understanding this amazing world we live in.” The idea here is that travelers are better at exploring the world than tourists. They dig deep into the culture, drink it up, and get to know a place while a tourist takes pictures and declares to have “done Paris.”
But that’s wrong, we are all tourists.
On the road, backpackers love to talk about how real their travels are and how unreal tourists are. “Look at those tourists over there,” they say. They scoff at others who travel too quickly or to places that they think are not well worth visiting. Nevertheless, they do so while eating hamburgers and drinking beers with other travelers.
The only way to really get to know a place deeply is to live there. If you want to live like a local, find an apartment, get a job, go to work, and do the same things as you did back home.
We are all only passing through a culture, getting a small taste before moving on to the next place. Even if we stay weeks or months, we’re just getting in touch with the surface. As a matter of fact, we are all really just tourists, or explorers, or travelers. Call yourself whatever you want—it’s all the same as we’re all trying to do the same thing—see the world.
So don’t label anyone and don’t let anyone label you. We’re all tourists. We’re all travelers. What we are all doing is more important than what we call ourselves. Let’s just enjoy the fact that we are simply people on the road.

Traveling with small children has a lot of challenges. From the near constant complaining about being uncomfortable and thirsty to the never-ending need to see every bathroom along the way. it is a wonder that anyone survives. But. everyone does it because family holidays are fun. They are supposed to be fun right?
Too often what could be great memories are overshadowed by the stress of just keeping the kids from killing each other. I am not going to tell you that I can make a long car or plane trip pleasant or instruct you to happily sing songs in the front seat to spread your joy around. That is all crazy talk. What you can do is try a few things that might make the portion of your holiday you spend confined in a small space with your offspring bearable.
Load your Phone. Before you leave, go the app store and load up your iPhone with kid' games. There are a ton of tree games that will keep your kids busy for hours. Even if you have to spend $ 1.99, it's worth it. As a backup. toss a couple movies on there too. I am telling you, the thrill of even holding a parents' phone is a thrill for kid: having it loaded with activities is even better. By the way, bring headphones unless you like hearing the Sponge-Bob game lyrics for hours.
Make surprise bags for the children. Take little brown bags or whatever is handy and put in a little inexpensive toy or game, stickers, a little coloring book and crayons. Make one for each hour you will be in the car or plane and pass them out accordingly. Hopefully, it will keep them occupied for about twenty minutes of each hour.
The most important of all travel tips is to take it easy on yourself. The more upset you get, the worse your child will behave. They sense stress and it gets them stressed out too. Finally, and this is really important, w hen you arrive at your destination pour yourself a big glass of wine. You earned it.
35.Why is travelling with children a headache to parents?
A.Because children get along badly with their parents.
B.Because children are active and restless during travelling.
C.Because children make a lot of trouble on purpose.
D.Because there are many activities children can't attend.
36.The second paragraph mainly tells parents that ______.
A.with enough preparations. they will definitely enjoy their travelling
B.they should lend an ear and share happiness with your children
C.they can do something to make the trip as tolerable as possible
D.they should stop young children from talking nonsense
37.Which of the following is NOT mentioned as a travel tip?
A.Prepare some little surprises.
B.Download Games apps in advance.
C.Bring some crayons and colored pencils.
D.Try to have them join in your conversation.
38.The best title for this passage is ______.
A.How to travel with children
B.How to make your children happy
C.How to make your travel unforgettable
D.How to drive away boredom during the trip

In the mid-1990s, Tom Bissell taught English as a volunteer in Uzbekistan. He left after seven months, physically broken and having lost his mind. A few years later, still attracted to the country, he returned to Uzbekistan to write an article about the disappearance of the Aral Sea.
His visit, however, ended up involving a lot more than that. Hence this book, Chasing the Sea: Lost Among the Ghosts of Empire in Central Asia, talks about a road trip from Tashkent to Karakalpakstan, where millions of lives have been destroyed by the slow drying up of the sea. It is the story of an American travelling to a strange land, and of the people he meets on his way: Rustam, his translator, a lovely 24-year-old who picked up his colorful English in California, Oleg and Natasha, his hosts in Tashkent, and a string of foreign aid workers.
This is a quick look at life in Uzbekistan, made of friendliness and warmth, but also its darker side of society. In Samarkand, Mr Bissell admires the architectural wonders, while on his way to Bukhara he gets a taste of police methods when suspected of drug dealing. In Ferghana, he attends a mountain funeral(葬禮)followed by a strange drinking party. And in Karakalpakstan, he is saddened by the dust storms, diseases and fishing boats stuck miles from the sea.
Mr Bissell skillfully organizes historical insights and cultural references, making his tale a well-rounded picture of Uzbekistan, seen from Western eyes. His judgment and references are decidedly American, as well as his delicate stomach. As the author explains, this is neither a travel nor a history book, or even a piece of reportage. Whatever it is, the result is a fine and vivid description of the purest of Central Asian traditions.
39.What can we learn from Paragraph 1?
A.Bissell was an English teacher.
B.Bissell left Uzbekistan heartbroken.
C.Bissell returned to Uzbekistan to find a new job.
D.Bissell came back due to the attraction of Uzbekistan.
40.Which word can replace the word "hence" in Paragraph 2?
A.Besides. B.Instead.
C.Therefore. D.Otherwise.
41.Which of the following word can be the best description of Bissell?
A.Humorous. B.Adventurous.
C.Ambitious. D.Brave.
42.Where is this text most likely from?
A.A diary. B.A guide book.
C.A novel. D.A magazine.

At noon on a brilliant Tuesday in March, my 12-year-old son Kai and I are a mile and a half into a four-day, 27-mile walk through the Grand Canyon—his first backpacking trip — when he asks: “Are we almost to camp?”
Um, no. Camp, at Hermit Creek, is seven miles and nearly 2,500 feet below, which will take us several more hours. We’re going down a poorly maintained path off the canyon, across which we can see many of the canyon’s layers. This is on display in cliffs hundreds of feet tall, a reminder of how far we have to go.
We are here largely because of a birthday note Kai wrote me two years ago in which he declared, “You used to be a wild 10-year-old like me and now you’re a wild 53-year-old. We can do so many things together! I am excited for when I’m old enough for the Grand Canyon!”
There are, I suppose, dads who could resist that, just as there are fathers who would plan an experience-appropriate trip for their sons. I am neither, so here we are. Never mind that; aside from simply being 12, Kai has done almost nothing to physically prepare for this. Or that I haven’t backpacked for 13 years.
We head on past twisty trees and brush. Soon the view broadens, and the layers grow deeper, down to the shadowy, 1.8 billion-year-old Vishnu, a panorama(全景) that leaves Kai excited. “This place is amazing,” he says.
Nightfall in the canyon can be magical. Darkness surrounds us, pressed by cool air. We navigate a narrow path to the stream and, hearing the sound of a waterfall, lie down to take in the stars. Twice I suggest we turn in. “Not yet,” Kai says. “This is too unbelievable.”
注意:1. 續(xù)寫詞數(shù)應(yīng)為150左右;
The last day’s plan is to travel the three miles to the Colorado River, which is the most challenging.

固定結(jié)構(gòu):find it +形容詞+ to do,it為形式賓語,真正的賓語為不定式短語。 故填it。
分析可知 2 (take) by herself 在句中作后置定語修飾名詞pictures,短語take pictures“拍照”,picture和take為動(dòng)賓關(guān)系,所以此處要用過去分詞。故填taken。
固定搭配:be determined to do,意為“決定做某事”,所以此處要用to become。故填to become。
故填but。
故填more。
固定短語:devote oneself to sth./doing sth.,意為“致力于做某事”,to為介詞。故填to。
固定結(jié)構(gòu):make sb. do sth.,意為“使某人做做事”,do為省略to的不定式,所以空白處應(yīng)填動(dòng)詞。

根據(jù)第二段關(guān)鍵句“The idea here is that travelers are better at exploring the world than tourists.”(這里的想法是旅行者比游客更善于探索世界)和第三段內(nèi)容“But that’s wrong, we are all tourists.”(但那是錯(cuò)誤的,我們都是游客)可知,Andrew Zimmern的話告訴我們旅行者比游客更善于探索世界,但后文論述了這種想法是錯(cuò)誤的,事實(shí)上我們都是游客,并闡述了原因,由此可知,第二段中列舉Andrew Zimmern的話的目的是舉一個(gè)關(guān)于對(duì)游客有不同種類的誤解的例子。故選D項(xiàng)。
32.
根據(jù)畫線短語句中“who travel too quickly or to places that they think are not well worth visiting”(他們旅行太快或者去了他們認(rèn)為不值得去的地方)可知,背包客認(rèn)為其他游客旅行太快或者去了他們認(rèn)為不值得去的地方,由此可知,背包客是在嘲笑其他游客,認(rèn)為其他游客去的地方不值得去,由此可知?jiǎng)澗€部分意為“嘲笑”,與laugh at同義。故選A項(xiàng)。
33.
根據(jù)倒數(shù)第二段關(guān)鍵句“We are all only passing through a culture, getting a small taste before moving on to the next place. Even if we stay weeks or months, we’re just getting in touch with the surface. As a matter of fact, we are all really just tourists, or explorers, or travelers.”(我們都只是在經(jīng)過一種文化,在去下一個(gè)地方之前簡單體會(huì)一下。
根據(jù)最后一段內(nèi)容“So don’t label anyone and don’t let anyone label you. We’re all tourists. We’re all travelers. What we are all doing is more important than what we call ourselves. Let’s just enjoy the fact that we are simply people on the road.”(所以不要給任何人貼標(biāo)簽,也不要讓任何人給你貼標(biāo)簽。

根據(jù)第一段“From the near constant complaining about being uncomfortable and thirsty to the never-ending need to see every bathroom along the way.(從幾乎不停地抱怨不舒服和口渴,到永無休止地想看看沿途的每一間浴室。)”
根據(jù)第二段“What you can do is try a few things that might make the portion of your holiday you spend confined in a small space with your offspring bearable.(你可以做的是嘗試一些事情,這些事情可能會(huì)讓你和孩子在一個(gè)狹小空間里度過的假期變得可以忍受。)”
,第四段“Make surprise bags for the children.(給孩子們制作驚喜包。)”及第五段“The most important of all travel tips is to take it easy on yourself.(所有旅行小貼士中最重要的就是放松自己。)”
通讀全文并根據(jù)第二段“What you can do is try a few things that might make the portion of your holiday you spend confined in a small space with your offspring bearable.(你可以做的是嘗試一些事情,這些事情可能會(huì)讓你和孩子在一個(gè)狹小空間里度過的假期變得可以忍受。)” 故選A項(xiàng)。

根據(jù)文章第一段“A few years later, still attracted to the country, he returned to Uzbekistan to write an article about the disappearance of the Aral Sea.”(幾年后,因?yàn)槿匀幻詰龠@個(gè)國家,他又回到了烏茲別克斯坦,寫了一篇文章講述the Aral Sea的消失。)
根據(jù)上文提到的“…h(huán)e returned to Uzbekistan to write an article about the disappearance of the Aral Sea. His visit, however, ended up involving a lot more than that”(他回到了烏茲別克斯坦寫了一篇有關(guān)the Aral Sea消失的文章。 可知,他回到烏茲別克斯坦寫了這本書,他的游歷卻遠(yuǎn)遠(yuǎn)不止這些,下文提到的“talks about a road trip from Tashkent to Karakalpakstan, where millions of lives have been destroyed by the slow drying up of the sea.”(講述了從Tashkent到Karakalpakstan一路上看到了上千萬的生命由于海洋的干涸而被摧毀)講的是書中涉獵的內(nèi)容,所以上下文之間是因果關(guān)系,“hence”意為“因此”。故選C項(xiàng)。
41.
根據(jù)文章第二段“It is the story of an American travelling to a strange land, and of the people he meets on his way”(這是一個(gè)美國人踏上陌生陸地的故事,是沿途遇見的那些人的故事。)和第三段“In Samarkand, Mr Bissell admires the architectural wonders, while on his way to Bukhara he gets a taste of police methods when suspected of drug dealing.”(在Samarkand,Mr Bissell欣賞建筑奇跡;然而,在去Bukhara的路上,因?yàn)楸粦岩啥酒方灰锥痪毂P問。)
根據(jù)文章第一段“A few years later, still attracted to the country, he returned to Uzbekistan to write an article about the disappearance of the Aral Sea.”

The last day’s plan is to travel the three miles to the Colorado River, which is the most challenging. With high wind howling around, we ascend the steep rock and wade the winding stream. It’s almost impossible for a 12-year-old boy to overcome such a harsh condition. To my utter astonishment, he eventually manages to challenge himself to reach the destination and his spirits never sink despite his sore legs and minor bruises. Bathed in the warm sunshine, Kai skips with extreme excitement and shares everything novel with me along the Colorado River.
After the backpacking trip, I also write a note to my son. The note says “It’s not only a physically demanding adventure but also a spiritually rewarding experience. I’m delighted that we are both wild enough and enjoy this lifetime trip.” Although Kai is only an immature boy that may just focus on the gorgeous scenery, I still believe that when he gradually grows up, he will genuinely realize that the adventure imparts the courage and consistent beliefs to him to face the stormy passage.
