【2013全國I卷】 Business management is a term used to describe the techniques of planning, direction, and control of the operations of a business. 3 One is the establishment (制定) of broad basic policies with respect to production; sales; the purchase of equipment, materials and supplies; and accounting. 4 The third relates to the establishment of standards of work in all departments. Direction is concerned primarily with supervision(監(jiān)管) and guidance by the management in authority. 5
A. Control includes the use of records and reports to compare actual work with the set standards for work.
B. In this connection there is the difference between top management and operative management.
C. Examples of nonprofit businesses include such organizations as social service agencies and many hospitals.
D. However, some businesses only seek to earn enough to cover their operating costs.
E. The second aspect relates to the application of these policies by departments.
F. In the theory of business management, organization has two main aspects.
G. Planning in business management has three main aspects.
5. A。 故選A。
Another way of setting realistic goals is to analyze your short and long term objectives, keeping in mind your beliefs, values and strengths. Remember that goals are flexible. 39 They also need to be measurable. You must keep these points in mind while setting your goals.
E. They can change according to circumstances.
Never mind that most travelers nowadays have smart phones with built-in alarm clocks.__17__ Here are some examples. At the Wolcott Hotel, if a wake-up call is unanswered, they will send an employee to your door. At Las Ventanas al Paraiso, an employee shows up at your room to wake you up with tea, coffee and breakfast bread. At the Mandarin Oriental, a person rather than an automated system will call to wake you up.
F. The human wake-up call is a way to personalize a guest’s stay.
F。由17空之后的“Here are some examples...” 根據(jù)后面舉的例子可知應該選擇F項“The human wake-up call is a way to personalize a guest’s stay.”
Some people may think that a garden is no more than plants, flowers, patterns and masses of color. Others are concerned about using gardening methods that require less water and fewer fertilizers (肥料). 18 However, there are a number of other reasons that might explain why you want to garden. One of them comes from our earliest years.
E. Still others may simply enjoy being outdoors and close to plants.
Every animal sleeps, but the reason for this has remained foggy. When lab rats are not allowed to sleep, they die within a month. 71
C. Similarly, when people go for a few days without sleeping, they get sick.
Your personal circumstances are equally important. For example, you may want to be a pilot but can't become one because your eyesight is not good enough. 40 You should reassess your goals, and motivate yourself to set a fresh goal.
C. However, this should not discourage you.
Our model of what a garden should be often goes back to childhood. Grandma's rose garden and Dad's vegetable garden might be good or bad, but that's not what's important. 19 — how being in those gardens made us feel. If you'd like to build a powerful bond with your garden, start by taking some time to recall the gardens of your youth. 20.For each of those gardens, write down the strongest memory you have. Then go outside and work out a plan to translate your childhood memories into your grown-up garden. Have fun.
C. It's our experience of the garden that matters.
Even the most successful public speaker will make mistakes. Yet, the only one who cares about any mistake is the one who is speaking. People’s attention wanders constantly. In fact. most people only absorb about 20 percent of a speaker’s message. So, don’t stop speaking when you make a mistake unless it’s a truly serious one.__18__
C. You don’t need to apologize for a minor slip.
C。根據(jù)上文中的“So,don’t stop speaking when you make a mistake unless it’s a truly serious one.”

_____/5
Swap, Don’t shop!
You keep hearing about recycling, right? But it doesn't end with bottles, cans, and paper. Clothing takes a huge amount of natural resources(資源)to make, and buying loads of new clothing(or throwing out old clothing)is not healthy for the environment. So what to do with all those perfectly-good-but-you're-maybe-a-little-sick-of-them clothes piled on your bedroom floor? 36 . It's the best way to get rid of your used clothes, score clothes from your friends, and have a party all at the same time.
A successful swap depends on the selection of clothes, the organization of the event, and, obviously, how much fun is had. It's really easy to do! Here are a few pointers.
●Invite 5—10 people so you have a nice selection. 37 , and there may not be enough things to choose from; more than that, and it becomes uncontrollable.
● 38 . They should also prepare plenty of reusable bags to carry their "new" clothes home.
●Put different types of clothing on different surfaces in the room. 39 . Place a few mirrors around your room so people can see how things look when they try them on. One of the ground rules of the swap should be that everyone must try on the clothes before they take them—things always look different when you put them on.
●Set a starting time. Maybe you say “go,” or turn on a certain song, or whatever. 40 . And don't forget to put out some cookies and fruits. Remember, it's a party!
A. Less people than that
B. Hold a clothing swap
C. If two people are competing
D. Just keep music playing throughout
E. Donate whatever clothes are left over
F. Have everyone put their clothes in the right spots
G. Tell everyone to bring clean clothes in good condition
B 37. A 38. G 39. F 40. D
36. B。根據(jù)上文“So what to do with all those perfectly- good-but-you 're- maybe-little-sick-of-them clothes piled on your bedroom floor?(那么,該如何處理那些堆在臥室地板上的(看起來)完好但你可能有點厭倦的衣服呢?)” 下文“It's the best way to get rid of your used clothes, score clothes from your friends, and have a party all at the same time.(這是扔掉舊衣服、從朋友那里買衣服、同時開派對的最好方法。)” B項“Hold a clothing swap.(進行衣物交換。)”
37. A。根據(jù)上文“Invite 5-10 people so you have a nice selection.”(邀請5到10個人,這樣你就有一個很好的選擇。) 下文“and there may not be enough things to choose from; more than that, and it becomes uncontrollable.”(可能沒有足夠的東西可供選擇;多于這個數(shù)量,它就變得無法控制。) A項“Less people than that”(少于這些人)提出一種假設,和下文中“more than that”相對,說明人數(shù)不宜太多,也不能太少,符合語境。故選A。
38. G。根據(jù)下文“They should also prepare plenty of reusable bags to carry their “new” clothes home.”(他們還應該準備大量的可重復使用的袋子,把他們的“新”衣服帶回家。) G項“Tell everyone to bring clean clothes in good condition.”(告訴每個人帶來品相完好的衣服。)
39. F。根據(jù)上文“Put different types of clothing on different surfaces in the room.”(把不同類型的衣服放在房間的不同地方。) 下文“Place a few mirrors around your room so people can see how things look when they try them on.”(在房間周圍放幾面鏡子,這樣人們試穿時就能看到衣服的樣子。) F項“Have everyone put their clothes in the right spots.(讓每個人的衣服都放在相應的位置上。)”
40. D。上文“Set a starting time. Maybe you say “go,” or turn on a certain song, or whatever.”(設置開始時間。 下文“And don't forget to put out some cookies and fruits. Remember, it's a party!”(別忘了拿出一些餅干和水果。 D項“Just keep music playing throughout.”(要始終播放音樂。)

A housewarming party is a special party to be held when someone buys or moves into a new apartment or house. The person who bought the house or moved is the one who throws the party. The party is a chance for friends and family to congratulate the person on the new home. 36 And it is good time to fill the new space with love and hopeful presents.
37 Some people register a list of things they want or need for their new home at a local stores. Some common things people will put on a gift registry include kitchen tools like knives and things like curtains. Even if there isn’t a registry, a good housewarming gift is something to decorate the new house with, like a piece of art or a plant.
38 This is often appreciated since at a housewarming there isn’t a lot of food served. There are usually no planned activities like games at a housewarming party. The host or hostess of the party will, however, probably give all the guests a tour of their new home. Sometimes, because a housewarming party happens shortly after a person moves into their new home, people may be asked to help unpack boxes. 39
Housewarming parties get their name from the fact that a long time ago people would actually bring firewood to a new home as a gift. 40 Now most homes have central heating and don’t use fires to keep warm.
A. This isn’t usual though.
B. It is traditional to bring a gift to a housewarming party.
C. You can also bring food or drinks to share with the other guests.
D. If you’re lucky enough to receive gifts, keep them in a safe place.
E. It also gives people a chance to see what the new home looks like.
F. The best housewarming parties encourage old friends to get together.
G. This was so that the person could keep their home warm for the winter.
E 37. B 38. C 39. A 40. G
36. E。上句 The party is a chance for friends and family to congratulate the person on the new home.(這個聚會是朋友和家人祝賀新家的機會)。 And it is a good time to fill the new space with love and hopefully presents.(現(xiàn)在是時候用愛和希望的禮物來填補新家了)。
37. B。下文Some common things people will put on a gift registry include kitchen tools like knives and things like curtains.和like a piece of art or a plant.
This is often appreciated since at a housewarming there isn' t a lot of food served.(這一點通常是值得贊賞的,因為在喬遷派對上不會提供很多食物)。
40. G。上句介紹了喬遷聚會名稱的由來,根據(jù)bring firewood to a new home as a gift.

They notice that tiny little worms crawling on the sidewalk and the puffy(松軟潔白的)clouds in the sky.
Because they are unique. 39 They’re insightful and reflective-they like to take the lime to be alone and spend lime with their thoughts. They appreciate calm and quiet moments.

B. Because they are creative.
C. They’re going to do big things in this world.
D. They try to build up those around them, not tear them down.
E. They want to celebrate with them if they’re happy and excited.

37. D。根據(jù)下文“They believe in people and want to see them do well.(他們相信人們,希望看到他們一切都好。)” D“They try to build up those around them, not tear them down.(他們試圖團結(jié)周圍的人,而不是摧毀他們。)”

Wordle
_____/5
Have you heard of Wordle? It has gained millions of fans since its public launch in October, 2021. Here is something you might want to know about Wordle.
36
Wordle is a free word guessing game developed by Josh Wardle, a software engineer in Brooklyn. The aim of the game is to guess a 5-letter word. It is different from other word games because it can only be played once per day. The target word is the same for everyone that day, and a new word is released at midnight. 37 And while there is no official mobile app for Wordle, you can also play it by visiting the web page on your Android, iPhone, or iPad.
How to play Wordle?
You have six attempts to guess a 5-letter word. Wordle will help you by giving clues along the way by changing the colors of each letter entered in the boxes. 38 If a letter is highlighted in green, it means that it's placed in the correct spot in the daily word. A yellow letter shows that it is in the daily target word, but in the wrong spot. Gray indicates that the letter is not in the target word at all.
Wordle tips and tricks:
Choose a good starter word which contains at least three vowel (元音) letters. The goal of the starting guess is to narrow down the options for the remaining 5 guesses. Using three vowels is a great way to achieve that. 39
Consider possible words based on the results of your first guess. After you enter your first guess, there might be some yellow or green letters to work with. Think of some 5-letter words that contain those letters, but don't use any of the gray letters.
40 A yellow letter means that it is in the word of the day, but not in the right position. Consider the most common locations of the yellow letters in 5-letter words you know. For example, if you have a yellow "k" in the second position of your word, you might try placing it in the 5th position - many 5-letter words end with "ck".
Continue to enter your guesses until all the letters are green.
A. What is Wordle?
B. Who created Wordle?
C. You can play Wordle on the web.
D. Use as many letters in a real word as possible.
E. Pay attention to the positions of yellow letters.
F. So try to enter a multi-vowel word at your first attempt.
G. After entering the five letters of your first guess, check their colors.
A 37. C 38. G 39. F 40. E

Earth Day, marked on April 22nd, is the perfect opportunity to think about how we can make the world a better place. 36 —like these small changes you can make to move towards a happier, healthier life that’s also kinder to the planet.
Get outdoors.
Did you know that the average person only spends four hours a week playing outdoors? 37 . Why not visit a local park, forest or beach? Ways to Step Out of Your Comfort Zone
There’s not a lot of room for adventure and excitement in your comfort zone. To add a little excitement to your life, it’s important to try new and sometimes scary things. 36 , facing unfamiliar challenges can make you happier and more fulfilled in the long run.
● 37 .
Think about a few things that scare you or make you nervous. Write them down in a list, and put a star next to the one you want to start with. You can handle the others later Rather than just thinking about it, coming up with specific ideas forces you to put these plans in motion.
●Turn every day into a learning experience.
38 . Look at each day as a chance for you to learn something new. This can only happen if you’re stepping outside your comfort zone. You can do this by always making an effort to find ways to grow. You never know what you’ll learn about the world when you explore different sides of it!
●Think positively to overcome fear.
Regard challenges as chances to grow. The biggest barrier keeping you from stepping out of your comfort zone is fear, especially fear of failure. 39 , just think of stepping outside your comfort zone as opportunities. You may be right around the corner from changing your life for the better.
●Turn to your friends for some added support.
Doing something new alone can be even more challenging. There’s no reason you can’t rely on friends or family to help you get out of your comfort zone! Pick someone who’s naturally adventurous to be your partner in trying new experiences. 40

_____/5
Dealing with judgment from other people can be tough. 36 But you can cope with their criticism using positivity and sympathy. The tips below will show you the best ways to respond when someone judges you.
37
Try not to take any judgmental words personally. Remember that a judgmental person’s words are a reflection of their own beliefs — and not yours. Remind yourself of all the things you do well, and keep a list of your best traits and achievements to boost your confidence.
Be sympathetic.
38 It could be that they were judged themselves by parents, family, or friends, in which case this person’s critical attitude would be something they learned. While that doesn’t excuse their behavior, having compassion can inform your response. Say things like “I’m not sure I agree, but I understand your position and I’ll take time to think it over. Thank you for sharing.”
Ask for clarification.
Judgmental people may not know they’re being rude or unreasonable. Ask this person to explain what they said, and find out their motivation for saying it. 39 Before you interpret this person’s words a certain way, make sure you know their true meaning and why they felt the need to judge you.
Calm down and respond rationally (理性地).
Being judged is never fun, and it’s natural for you to feel hurt and emotional right after it happens. 40 Getting defensive or judgmental in return is unlikely to help them see the error of their ways, and more likely to start a fight. If you get angry, take several deep breaths until you feel yourself calming down. Excuse yourself briefly if you need to. Take a quick walk, and return to the conversation when you feel ready.
A. So you should stay collected.
B. Separate yourself from the judgment.
C. Judgmental people are just unavoidable.
D. Try understanding the source of this person’s judgment.
E. Think of each situation where you feel judged as a learning experience.
F. Explain why their words have bothered you and make sure this doesn’t happen again.
G. Some people have good intentions but end up sounding judgmental when they’re trying to help.
C37. B38. D39. G40. A
36. C。根據(jù)空處下句“But you can cope with their criticism using positivity and sympathy.(但你可以用積極和同情來應對他們的批評)”可知,其中的criticism與C項“Judgmental people are just unavoidable.(品頭論足的人是不可避免的)”中的Judgmental相呼應。故選C。
37. B。 (Separate yourself from the judgment.)。故選B。
38. D。根據(jù)空處下句“It could be that they were judged themselves by parents, family, or friends, in which case this person’s critical attitude would be something they learned.(可能是父母、家人或朋友對他們進行了評判,在這種情況下,這個人的批評態(tài)度可能是他們學到的東西)”可知,這里是對D選項“Try understanding the source of this person’s judgment.(試著理解這個人評價的原因)”的進一步解釋,都是在介紹別人評價的起源和原因。故選D。
39. G。根據(jù)空處前兩句“Judgmental people may not know they’re being rude or unreasonable. Ask this person to explain what they said, and find out their motivation for saying it.(愛評判別人的人可能不知道他們是粗魯?shù)幕虿恢v道理的。請這個人解釋一下他們說了什么,并找出他們這么說的動機)”可知,這里是在介紹要去了解別人說話的動機。而G選項“Some people have good intentions but end up sounding judgmental when they’re trying to help.(有些人本意是好的,但在他們試圖幫助別人的時候,卻聽起來像是在評判別人)”是對上兩句做法的進一步解釋。故選G。
40. A。根據(jù)空處下句“Getting defensive or judgmental in return is unlikely to help them see the error of their ways, and more likely to start a fight.(以自衛(wèi)或評判的方式作為回報,不太可能幫助他們看清自己的錯誤,反而更有可能引發(fā)爭斗)”可知,以批判的態(tài)度去回擊別人是不可取的做法,那相反,我們應該保持冷靜(So you should stay collected),此處stay collected與小標題Calm down呼應。故選A。

When speaking of a party, it often means there will be a lot of fun. 36 This is especially true if you are running it on a budget. But as long as you are wise enough, it is possible for you to throw a party even if you don’t have deep pockets. Take these tips to help you.
Define your budget for the party. 37 For instance, if you only have 50 bucks, it is not a practical idea to buy new plates, glasses and the like. In that case, your money need to be saved for more important things in the party such as food and drink.
38 Seek the help of your friends to decide on a theme for the party. Set a date to make your own invitations and decorations. You can also check the Web for imagination when thinking of great party ideas without extra expense.
Ask for contributions from your guests. A party is not always something you have to shoulder all by yourself. 39 It is also a good idea to make a request for their support of items other than food such as napkins, and paper plates. With their help, your party will have a variety of good foods and adequate kitchenware without ever shouldering all the bills yourself. Don’t forget to show your appreciation.
Keep your attitude positive throughout the party. 40 Instead, entertain your guests with a smile, and the relaxing atmosphere will turn the party into a success. Even if it is within a budget, the most important thing about a party is to make it memorable and fun for everyone in attendance.
A. Ask your friends to offer you a helping hand.
B. Get your imagination going for the party.
C. You can show your guests that you are enthusiastic.
D. You can ask your guests to bring their speciality to the event.
E. This way, you know what to buy for the party and what to set aside.
F. You are never supposed to wear an apologetic look for not having much.
G. This is not always the case, however, when it is your turn to throw a party.
36. G。根據(jù)上文“When speaking of a party, it often means there will be a lot of fun.”(說到聚會,它通常意味著會有很多快樂。);再根據(jù)下文“This is especially true if you are running it on a budget.”(如果你的經(jīng)費緊張的話,這一點尤其正確。) 所以G項“This is not always the case, however, when it is your turn to throw a party.”(然而,當輪到你開派對時,情況就不總是這樣了。)
37. E。根據(jù)上文“Define your budget for the party.”(確定你的派對預算。) 所以E項“This way, you know what to buy for the party and what to set aside.”(這樣,你就知道該為聚會買什么,不該買什么。)
38. B。根據(jù)下文“Seek the help of your friends to decide on a theme for the party. Set a date to make your own invitations and decorations. You can also check the Web for imagination when thinking of great party ideas without extra expense. ”(向你的朋友們尋求幫助,決定聚會的主題。設定一個日期,制作自己的請柬和裝飾。你也可以在沒有額外費用的情況下在網(wǎng)上尋找想象力。)可知,本段主要講了,你可以向朋友咨詢或者在網(wǎng)上搜索一些關(guān)于聚會的主題、制定邀請卡、裝飾等信息。此空需要一個主旨句,所以B項“Get your imagination going for the party.”(發(fā)揮你的想象力吧。)
39. D。根據(jù)上文“Ask for contributions from your guests. A party is not always something you have to shoulder all by yourself.”(向你的客人尋求資助。 所以D項“You can ask your guests to bring their specialty to the event.”(你可以讓你的客人帶他們的特產(chǎn)來參加活動。)
40. F。根據(jù)上文“Keep your attitude positive throughout the party.”(在整個聚會中保持積極的態(tài)度。);再根據(jù)下文“Instead, entertain your guests with a smile, and the relaxing atmosphere will turn the party into a success.”(相反,用微笑來招待你的客人,輕松的氣氛會使聚會成功。) 所以F項“You are never supposed to wear an apologetic look for not having much.”(你永遠不應該因為沒有準備太多而裝出一副抱歉的樣子。)

When you’re giving a speech to an audience, there isn’t a one-stop-shop approach that will address every individual. 36 You need to consider carefully the content at the planning stage of your speech.
37 Larger audiences often have little or no audience participation, so you need to ensure that your speech fills the time slot(空檔) allocated. To attain the attention of a larger audience, your tone and body language is also more important, and maintaining eye contact with as many individuals is vital. 38 This means you’ll need to prepare enough material to fill the time slot if needed, but allow for questions or comments throughout while still delivering your message in the time you have.
The second hurdle to overcome is that you naturally have lots of different types of people in the room. 39 As a general rule, there are 4 different ways people learn: visual, auditory, reading and writing and kinaesthetic. Including elements of each learning style will help to engage more of your audience, and assist in connecting with different audiences.
Another way you’ll need to adapt your speech is whether you are addressing other experts in the same field, or if you are talking to beginners or an audience with limited knowledge. Targeting these two types of audience will be a bigger and more difficult task. 40 Trying to target both experts and beginners with the same speech could alienate(疏遠) both parties and result in the loss of engagement completely.
A. They learn and take in information in many different ways.
B. You are talking to a particular age group, gender or profession.
C. The most effective way is to create two versions of your speech.
D. Audiences, large or small, are complex and have different requirements.
E. Adapting your speech based on the audience size is your first action-point.
F. No matter how much you prepare, you may find you are losing audience engagement.
G. For smaller audiences they have more opportunity to be more conversational and relaxed.
D 37. E 38. G 39. A 40. C
36.上文“When you’re giving a speech to an audience, there isn’t a one-stop-shop approach that will address every individual.”(當你向聽眾發(fā)表演講時,沒有一種一站式的方法可以針對每個人。)
37.下文“Larger audiences often have little or no audience participation, so you need to ensure that your speech fills the time slot(空檔) allocated.”(較大的聽眾通常很少或根本沒有聽眾參與,因此您需要確保您的演講占滿時間段分配。)
38.下文“This means you’ll need to prepare enough material to fill the time slot if needed, but allow for questions or comments throughout while still delivering your message in the time you have.”(這意味著如果需要,你需要準備足夠的材料來填補這段時間,但是在你所擁有的時間中傳遞信息的同時,要允許問題或評論。)
39.下文“As a general rule, there are 4 different ways people learn”(一般來說,有四種不同的學習方式)說明,聽眾會有不同的學習方式,A項“他們以許多不同的方式學習和吸收信息?!狈项}意。故選A。
40、上文“Targeting these two types of audience will be a bigger and more difficult task.”(針對這兩類受眾將是一項更大、更困難的任務。)說明,針對初學者和專家這兩類受眾進行演講是困難的,以及下文“Trying to target both experts and beginners with the same speech could alienate(疏遠) both parties and result in the loss of engagement completely.”(試圖用同一個演講同時針對專家和初學者可能會疏遠這兩類聽眾,導致完全失去參與。)

36. E。根據(jù)前文“Feeling tired and stressed? You are not alone.”(感到疲倦和壓力? 所以可以推斷出空處應該是進一步描述有這種疲倦和壓力是正常的,E項“It’s normal to feel uninspired or unmotivated every now and then.”(時不時地感到?jīng)]有靈感或沒有動力是很正常的。)

F。根據(jù)上文“Clutter can easily cause stress-and stress contributes to poor sleep, which can also affect your overall productivity and general health.”(雜亂很容易導致壓力——壓力會導致睡眠不好,這也會影響你的整體生產(chǎn)力和健康。)可知,雜亂會對身體有害,結(jié)合下文“Reducing the “clutter” in our lives-physical, digital or psychological-allows us to deal with stressors head-on.”(減少我們生活中的“雜亂”——身體上的、數(shù)字上的或者心理上的——可以讓我們直面壓力源。)可知,空處應該是描寫雜亂其他方面的壞處,即對心里的壞處,F(xiàn)選項“Besides, research also shows that clutter can be bad for your mental health.”(此外,研究還表明,雜亂無章對你的心理健康有害。)
39. D。根據(jù)上文“This exercise focuses your attention on the positive experiences in your day and away from the negative.”(這個練習讓你的注意力集中在你一天中積極的經(jīng)歷上,而不是消極的。)可知,此處描述了這個練習的好處,結(jié)合下文“You can practice this habit every night, right before you go to bed.”(你可以每晚睡覺前練習這個習慣。)
40. A。根據(jù)文章結(jié)構(gòu)可知,此空是標題,根據(jù)本段內(nèi)容“Starting a new project you care about can be the healthy distraction(消遣) you need to improve your mood, reduce stress and increase your sense of accomplishment. You can use your mornings just before your normal work routine or an hour of your evening to accomplish some pretty amazing things.”(開始一個你關(guān)心的新項目是一種你所需要的對你身體有好處的消遣,這可以改善你的心情、減輕壓力和提高成就感。 可知,本段主要講述了要開始一個你所關(guān)心的項目,A選項“Work on a passion project.”(完成一個激情項目。)

When talking to people about climate change, you might always get asked the question: What can you do to help as a consumer? Here are some specific steps you can take:
Sign up for a green pricing program with your electric utility. Some utility companies allow homes and businesses to pay extra for power from clean sources. When you participate in these programs, you’re telling your utility company that you’re willing to pay more to address climate. 36 Without that demand signal, the innovations that governments and businesses invest in will stay in the shelf.
37 Depending on how much money and time you can spare, you can replace your incandescent light bulbs with LEDs, install a smart thermostat, insulate your windows, buy efficient appliances, or replace your heating and cooling system with a heat pump.
Buy an electric vehicle (EV). EVs have come a long way in terms of cost and performance. Although they might not be right for everyone, they’re becoming more affordable for many consumers. 38 People buy lots of them, companies will make lots of them.
39 . Veggie burgers haven’t always tasted great. However, the new generation of plant-based protein alternatives is better and closer to the taste and texture of meat than their predecessors. 40 . In addition, eating a meat substitute just once or twice a week will cut down on the e-missions you’re responsible for. The same goes for dairy products.
A. That’s cost-effective.
B. Try a plant-based burger.
C. Reduce your home’s emissions.
D. That’s an important market signal.
E. EVs are friendly to environment and easy to drive.
F. You can find them in many restaurants and grocery stores.
G. This is where consumers’ behavior can have a huge impact.
36. D。根據(jù)上文“When you participate in these programs, you’re telling your utility company that you're willing to pay more to address climate.(當你參與這些項目時,你就是在告訴你的公用事業(yè)公司,你愿意花更多的錢來解決氣候問題)”以及后文“Without that demand signal, the innovations that governments and businesses invest in will stay in the shelf.(如果沒有需求信號,政府和企業(yè)投資的創(chuàng)新將被束之高閣)”可知,后文提到了需求信號,可知本句是在說明把上文參與這些項目看作一個信號,D選項中signal對應后文中signal。
37. C。根據(jù)后文“Depending on how much money and time you can spare, you can replace your incandescent light bulbs with LEDs, install a smart thermostat, insulate your windows, buy efficient appliances, or replace your heating and cooling system with a heat pump.(取決于你能節(jié)省多少錢和時間,你可以用LED燈替換白熾燈,安裝智能恒溫器,給窗戶隔熱,購買高效電器,或者用熱泵替換供暖和制冷系統(tǒng))”可知,后文列舉了一系列給家里減排的方法,故C選項“減少你家的排放量”符合語境,故選C。
38. G。根據(jù)上文“Buy an electric vehicle (EV). EVs have come a long way in terms of cost and performance. Although they might not be right for everyone, they’re becoming more affordable for many consumers.(購買電動汽車。
40. F。根據(jù)上文“However, the new generation of plant-based protein alternatives is better and closer to the taste and texture of meat than their predecessors.(然而,新一代的植物性蛋白質(zhì)替代品比它們的前輩更好,更接近肉類的味道和質(zhì)地)”可知,上文提到了新一代的植物性蛋白質(zhì)的特性,故本句承接上文繼續(xù)說明如何買到這些東西。
