★?順敘,即記敘的時候按照事情發(fā)生、發(fā)展、和結局的順序來寫,前因后果、條理很清楚;
★?倒敘,即不按照事情發(fā)生的先后順序來敘述,而是從最重要,最能引人入勝的事件開始,然后再回過頭來追述故事的開端和經過;
? 記敘的要素(who、when、where、what、why、how)
5W(what, who, when, where, why)要素。

When I was 9, we packed up our home in Los Angeles and arrived at Heathrow, London on a gray January morning. Everyone in the family settled quickly into the city except me. Without my beloved beaches and endless blue—sky days, I felt at a loss and out of place. Until I made a discovery.
Southbank, at an eastern bend in the Thames, is the center of British skateboarding, where the continuous crashing of skateboards left your head ringing. I loved it. I soon made friends with the local skaters. We spoke our own language. And my favorite: Safe. Safe meant cool. It meant hello. It meant don't worry about it. Once, when trying a certain trick on the beam(橫桿), I fell onto the stones, damaging a nerve in my hand, and Toby came over, helping me up: Safe, man. Safe. A few minutes later, when I landed the trick, my friends beat their boards loud, shouting: “ Safe! Safe! Safe!” And that's what mattered—landing tricks, being a good skater.
When I was 15, my family moved to Washington. I tried skateboarding there, but the locals were far less welcoming. Within a couple of years, I'd given it up.
When I returned to London in 2004, I found myself wandering down to Southbank, spending hours there. I've traveled back several times since, most recently this past spring. The day was cold but clear: tourists and Londoners stopped to watch the skaters. Weaving(穿梭)among the kids who rushed by on their boards, I found my way to the beam. Then a rail—thin teenager, in a baggy white T-shirt, skidded(滑)up to the beam. He sat next to me. He seemed not to notice the man next to him. But soon I caught a few of his glances. “I was a local here 20 years ago,” I told him. Then, slowly, he began to nod his head. “Safe, man. Safe.”
“Yeah,” I said. “Safe.”
24. What can we learn about the author soon after he moved to London?
A. He felt disappointed. B. He gave up his hobby.
C. He liked the weather there. D. He had disagreements with his family.
25. What do the underlined words “Safe! Safe! Safe!” probably mean?
A. Be careful! B. Well done! C. No way! D. Don't worry!
26. Why did the author like to spend time in Southbank when he returned to London?
A. To join the skateboarding. B. To make new friends.
C. To learn more tricks. D. To relive his childhood days
27. What message does the author seem to convey in the text?
A. Children should learn a second language.
B. Sport is necessary for children's health.
C. Children need a sense of belonging
D. Seeing the world is a must for children.
24. A。 根據第一段“Everyone in the family settled quickly into the city except me. Without my beloved beaches and endless blue -sky days, I felt at a loss and out of place.(除了我之外的家里人都很快適應這個城市,沒有了我喜愛的沙灘和藍天,我感到迷茫和無措)”可知,作者剛到倫敦的時候因為沒有喜愛的沙灘,不能很好的融入到新的城市,感到很沮喪,故選A。
25. B。 根據畫線詞后文“And that's what mattered—landing tricks, being a good skater.
根據第四段““I was a local here 20 years ago," I told him. Then, slowly, he began to nod his head. “Safe, man.

When “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” was first shown to the public last month, a group of excited animal activists gathered on Hollywood Boulevard. But they weren’t there to throw red paint on fur-coat-wearing film stars. Instead, one activist, dressed in a full-body monkey suit, had arrived with a sign praising the filmmakers: “Thanks for not using real apes (猿)!”
The creative team behind “Apes” used motion-capture (動作捕捉) technology to create digitalized animals, spending tens of millions of dollars on technology that records an actor’s performance and later processes it with computer graphics to create a final image (圖像). In this case, one of a realistic-looking ape.
Yet “Apes” is more exception than the rule. In fact, Hollywood has been hot on live animals lately. One nonprofit organization, which monitors the treatment of animals in filmed entertainment, is keeping tabs on more than 2,000 productions this year. Already, a number of films, including “Water for Elephants,” “The Hangover Part Ⅱ” and “Zookeeper,” have drawn the anger of activists who say the creatures acting in them haven’t been treated properly.
In some cases, it’s not so much the treatment of the animals on set in the studio that has activists worried; it’s the off-set training and living conditions that are raising concerns. And there are questions about the films made outside the States, which sometimes are not monitored as closely as productions filmed in the States.
24. Why did the animal activists gather on Hollywood Boulevard?
A. To see famous film stars.
B. To oppose wearing fur coats.
C. To raise money for animal protection.
D. To express thanks to some filmmakers.
25. What does paragraph 2 mainly talk about?
A. The cost of making “Apes.”
B. The creation of digitalized apes.
C. The publicity about “Apes.”
D. The performance of real apes.
26. What does the underlined phrase “keeping tabs on” in paragraph 3 probably mean?
A. Listing completely.
B. Directing professionally.
C. Promoting successfully.
D. Watching carefully.
27. What can we infer from the last paragraph about animal actors?
A. They may be badly treated.
B. They should take further training.
C. They could be traded illegally
D. They would lose popularity.
根據第一段“Instead, one activist ,dressed in a full -body monkey suit ,had arrived with a sign praising the filmmakers:“Thanks for not using real apes”可知,相反,一名身穿全套猴服活動人士來到現場,手里拿著一塊牌子,稱贊電影制作人:“感謝你們不用真正的猿猴。
根據第二段“The creative team behind "Apes" used motion-capture (動作捕捉) technology to create digitalized animals, spending tens of millions of dollars on technology that I records an actor’s performance and later processes it with computer graphics to create a final image (圖像).
根據第三段劃線前的句子“One nonprofit organization, which monitors the treatment or animals in filmed entertainment”(一個非營利組織,監(jiān)控動物在電影娛樂中的待遇)以及下文Already, a number of films, including "Water for Elephants," "The Hangover Part Ⅱ" and "Zookeeper," have drawn the anger of activists who say the creatures acting in them haven’t been treated properly.(許多電影,包括“大象的眼淚”,“宿醉Ⅱ”和“管理員”,引起了動物保護人士的憤怒,他們說影片中的動物沒有遭到很好的對待。)
27. A。 In some cases, it’s not so much the treatment of the animals on set in the studio that has activists worried; it’s the off-set training and living conditions that are raising concerns. And there are questions about the films made outside the States, which sometimes are not monitored as closely as productions filmed in the Sates.”(在某些情況下,讓活動人士擔心的并不是電影棚里對動物的待遇;讓人擔憂的是訓練和生活條件。 故選A。

_____/4
I was getting ready to go to bed when the phone rang. This could not be good. My mind raced through the list of family members who might need help, but the voice was hardly familiar.
"Lindy, this is Lesley." I didn't know Lesley well. We did occasionally speak with each other, but to say we were friends was not appropriate. I asked what she needed. Perhaps something really awful caused her to reach someone she barely knew. Instead, she asked me, "Do you have room for a turkey? In your freezer?" We had lots of room in our freezer, and in fact, too much. "Sure," I responded, "did your freezer break down?" "Not exactly," Lesley replied, "but I will explain when I arrive."
Minutes later came a huge freezer truck, Lesley stepped down and explained the lease (租約) of the grocery store her husband serviced had run out and that they had to empty all the freezers that very night. Thinking it was a shame to throw away all this good food, they decided to drop off food to anyone she could think of. Noticing our freezer was pretty empty, Lesley asked to fill it up. Our home was their last stop and anything left would have to be put in our freezer. An hour later, everything finished, I asked her, "When will you come back for all this?" Lesley laughed, "We don't want it back. It is yours! Thanks for helping us out!" Then they waved goodbye and drove away.
"For helping them out?" We opened our freezer door. Inside were all expensive foods we never bought but often longed to try. We were struggling to buy groceries, yet it was not something we shared with anyone. However, our needs were met in an unexpected way, by that call, "Do you have room for a turkey?"
1. How did the writer feel when she heard the phone ringing?
A. Angry. B. Anxious. C. Shocked. D. Relieved.
2. What does the author indicate by the underlined sentence in paragraph 2?
A. They were running out of food supplies.
B. Their freezer was too large to fill.
C. They were glad to put the turkey in the freezer.
D. Their freezer was less frequently used.
3. Why did Lesley call up the writer?
A. Because she didn't want food to go to waste.
B. Because the writer was her good friend.
C. Because something awful had happened.
D. Because she knew the writer was in need.
4. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. A friend on speaking terms.
B. Who is my angel?
C. Unexpected bargains.
D. Do you have room for a turkey?
I was getting ready to go to bed when the phone rang. This could not be good. My mind raced through the list of family members who might need help, but the voice was hardly familiar.
2. A。 We had lots of room in our freezer, and in fact, too much.
3. A。 Lesley stepped down and explained the lease (租約) of the grocery store her husband serviced had run out and that they had to empty all the freezers that very night 和第二句 Thinking it was a shame to throw away all this good food, they decided to drop off food to anyone she could think of. 故選A。
4. D。 I was getting ready to go to bed when the phone rang. Instead, she asked me, " Do you have room for a turkey? In your freezer?" However, our needs were met in an unexpected way, by that call, " Do you have room for a turkey?"

Temidayo Adedokun, 31, who was born in Nigeria and now is working in America, became pregnant with her first child. She couldn’t hide her joy, and couldn’t wait to shop for baby clothes with traditional African prints that she grew up wearing.
“I was super surprised that I failed to find affordably priced African aesthetic(美學的) products that were designed from an authentic place, ” Temidayo said.
Temidayo decided to take matters into her own hands. At first, she focused on creating clothes just for her baby. But then, she put some of them on a website to see what happened.
The feedback she got gave her just enough confidence. She figured she’d make the baby clothes an after-work side business to her full-time position as a lawyer in Oakland, California, until one day she was told she was given a boot. Once again, she needed to make her own choice. That’s when she decided to make it a full-time job.
“I had to evaluate: Am I going to search for another job I don’t have a great desire for?” she said. “Or am I going to take this as a chance I’m not sure about myself? After all, I’m not familiar with this field. What if something unexpected happens? However, for the symbols of children’s clothing in my heart, I threw myself into it. So I chose the latter. ”Then, in March 2020, Temidayo officially announced her own brand: Ade + Ayo.
Since then, Temidayo has received much praise from other African parents informing her that her clothes help them start having conversations with their kids about what they’re wearing and allow them to show their children the treasures handed down by their ancestors. And, for those who aren’t African, her clothes have been a way for parents to introduce their kids to a new and colorful world. “I feel very blessed to be able to be doing this,” she said.
1. How did Temidayo feel after trying to buy African aesthetic clothes?
A. Pleased. B. Confident.
C. Stressful. D. Disappointed.
2. What does the underlined phrase “given a boot” in paragraph 4 mean?
A. Dismissed. B. Promoted.
C. Well-known. D. Accused.
3. What did Temidayo originally think of her creating her own brand?
A. It was informal. B. It was profitable.
C. It was risky. D. It was trendy.
4. How can we evaluate Ade + Ayo?
A. It’s created African aesthetics. B. It’s spread authentic cultures.
C. It’s targeted overseas Africans. D. It’s inspired people’s creativity.
根據第二段的“I was super surprised that I failed to find affordably priced African aesthetic(美學的) products that were designed from an authentic place (我非常驚訝,我沒能找到價格實惠的非洲美學產品,這些產品都是在正宗的地方設計的)”可推知,沒能買到價格實惠的非洲美學產品,她感到驚訝,同時也會覺得很失望,故選D。
2. A。 根據第四段的“That’s when she decided to make it a full-time job.(就在那時,她決定把它變成一份全職工作。)”
根據倒數第二段的“After all, I’m not familiar with this field. What if something unexpected happens?(畢竟,我對這個領域并不熟悉。
根據最后一段的“her clothes help them start having conversations with their kids about what they’re wearing and allow them to show their children the treasures handed down by their ancestors. And, for those who aren’t African, her clothes have been a way for parents to introduce their kids to a new and colorful world.(她的衣服幫助他們開始與孩子們談論他們的穿著,讓他們可以向孩子們展示祖先傳下來的珍寶。

A British woman who won a S1 million prize after she was named the World's Best Teacher will use the cash to bring inspirational figures into UK schools.
Andria Zafirakou,a north London secondary school teacher, said she wanted to bring about a classroom revolution (變革). “We are going to make a change, ”she said.“I’ve started a project to promote the teaching of the arts in our schools.”
The project results from the difficulties many schools have in getting artists of any sort - whether an up-and-coming local musician or a major movie star - into schools to work with and inspire children.
Zafirakou began the project at Alperton Community School, her place of work for the past twelve years. “I've seen those magic moments when children are talking to someone they are inspired by - their eyes are shining and their faces light up,” she said. “We need artists, more than ever in our schools."
Artist Michael Craig-Martin said: “Andria's brilliant project to bring artists from all fields into direct contact with children is particularly welcome at a time when the arts are being downgraded in schools." It was a mistake to see the arts as unnecessary, he added.
Historian Sir Simon Schama is also a supporter of the project. He said that arts education in schools was not just an add-on. “It is absolutely necessary. The future depends on creativity and creativity depends on the young. What will remain of us when artificial intelligence takes over will be our creativity, and it is our creative spirit, our visionary sense of freshness, that has been our strength for centuries."
1. What will Zafirakou do with her prize money?
A. Make a movie. B. Build new schools.
C. Run a project. D. Help local musicians.
2. What does Craig-Martin think of the teaching of the arts in UK schools?
A. It is particularly difficult. B. It increases artists' income.
C. It opens children's mind. D. It deserves greater attention.
3. What should be stressed in school education according to Schama?
A. Moral principles. B. Interpersonal skills.
C. Creative abilities. D. Positive worldviews.
4. Which of the following is a suitable title for the text?
A. Bring Artists to Schools B. When Historians Meet Artists
C. Arts Education in Britain D. The World's Best Arts Teacher

2. A。 根據文章第三段“The project results from the difficulties many schools have in getting artists of any sort - whether an up-and-coming local musician or a major movie star - into schools to work with and inspire children.(許多學校很難讓任何類型的藝術家——無論是當地嶄露頭角的音樂家還是主要的電影明星——進入學校,與孩子們一起工作并激勵他們,因此才有了這個項目。)” 故選A。
3. C。 根據文章最后一段“It is absolutely necessary. The future depends on creativity and creativity depends on the young.(這是絕對必要的。

A hungry badger (獾) searching for food seems to have uncovered what turned out to be hundreds of Roman coins in a Spanish cave, according to a new study.
Archaeologists (考古學家) first discovered several coins laying on the ground at the entrance to a small cave in the woodlands outside Grado in northern Spain in April 2021. The researchers suspect that the coins were unearthed by a badger from a nearby den (獸窩) after a heavy snow which made it harder for animals to find food. The hungry badger probably got into the cave looking for food but came across the coins instead.
After fully exploring the cave, researchers collected 209 coins dating to between the third and fifth centuries A.D. “To date, this is the largest amount of Roman coins found in n cave in northern Spain,” the researchers wrote in their paper. They described the discovery as an “exceptional find”.
In the late 1930s, a collection of 14 gold Roman coins, known as the Chapipi treasure, was also found in the same woodlands. The researchers believe that local people may have buried their coins to keep them safe during a period of intense political instability in the region. The most recent coin in the newly-discovered Grado collection dates to A.D. 430, which was after the Suebi—a group of Germanic people originally from modern-day Germany and the Czech Republic—pushed the Romans out of Spain in A.D. 409, according to El Pais.
The researchers suspect that the newly-discovered coins are part of a vaster treasure and will return to the cave for further exploration to look for more coins and evidence that the cave may also have been the home of displaced Roman people. “We want to know if it was a one-off hiding place, or if there was a group of humans living there,” lead researcher Alfonso Fanjul Peraza told El Pais.
1. Where did the researchers find the first few coins in 2021?
A. Near a Spanish cave. B. On a Spanish playground.
C. At the entrance to a woodland. D. In a badger’s den.
2. What do the researchers think of the discovery in 2021?
A. It’s dangerous. B. It’s timely. C. It’s meaningless. D. It’s unusual.
3. What does the underlined word “them” refer to in Paragraph 4?
A. The Romans. B. The coins. C. The woodlands. D. The researchers.
4. What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A. More information may be revealed by the coins.
B. The ancient Roman people had a unique lifestyle.
C. The researchers doubt the former guess of the coins.
D. The researchers will return the coins to the Roman people.
1.A。 根據文章第二段的第一句“Archaeologists (考古學家) first discovered several coins laying on the ground at the entrance to a small cave in the woodlands outside Grado in northern Spain in April 2021.(2021年4月,考古學家在西班牙北部格拉多郊外林地的一個小洞穴入口處首次發(fā)現了地上的幾枚硬幣)”可知,考古學家在西班牙境內的一個洞穴附近發(fā)現了幾枚硬幣。故選A。
2. D。 根據第三段第二、三句“‘To date, this is the largest amount of Roman coins found in a cave in northern Spain,’ the researchers wrote in their paper. They described the discovery as an ‘exceptional find’.(研究人員在論文中寫道:‘到目前為止,這是在西班牙北部的一個洞穴中發(fā)現的數量最大的羅馬硬幣。’
根據第四段劃線詞所在句“The researchers believe that local people may have buried their coins to keep them safe during a period of intense political instability in the region.
4. A。 根據最后一段“The researchers suspect that the newly-discovered coins are part of a vaster treasure and will return to the cave for further exploration to look for more coins and evidence that the cave may also have been the home of displaced Roman people. ‘We want to know if it was a one-off hiding place, or if there was a group of humans living there,’ lead researcher Alfonso Fanjul Peraza told El Pais.(研究人員懷疑,新發(fā)現的硬幣是一個更大的寶藏的一部分,并將返回洞穴進行進一步的探索,以尋找更多的硬幣和證據,該洞穴可能也是流離失所的羅馬人的家園。 故選A。

Earlier this year, a physician emailed me to thank me for an essay I wrote. I couldn’t believe he could find the essay--after all, 18 years had passed since it was published. But he had found the piece--my first narrative (敘事體的)medicine article about my experience parenting a son with a complex medical disorder---in a drawer he was cleaning out as he prepared to retire. He had tracked me down to share how important such articles were to him during his years caring for patients. I was touched and reminded of how important these pieces were to my own professional and personal journey.
At the time, major medical journals were beginning to publish narrative pieces. I submitted my first article, hopeful that it might make a difference for others and confirm some productivity during this time. But I was also nervous about the potential exposure. I was surprised and thrilled when it was accepted for publication, and readers' sympathy, constructive responses alleviated my concerns about sharing my family's story.
Over the following years, I somehow made it to a researcher. Our youngest daughter was born; our son was diagnosed (診斷) with Schwartz-Jampel syndrome(綜合癥); and I took 5 months away from my study to help him get the support services he needed. Through it all, the narrative articles continued to flow. Writing about our extended family of health care providers and the need for family mental health services was highly smooth, and reading strangers’ responses was equally effective.
In the year after returning to my career, I wrote my first funded proposals, to study the impact of traumatic (創(chuàng)傷性) health care events on providers, patients, and families, and to examine why patients do or don't seek help for depression. I probably would not have taken these directions with my research if the topics had not been such a vital part of my life. But I realized that there didn't need to be a division between my personal pain and the enthusiasms that fueled my research. Instead, I could imagine and create a life that satisfied my needs for my research, my family, and myself.
1. What was the author's first narrative medicine article about?
A. The reasons for patients refusing to seek help for depression.
B. The influence of traumatic health care events on families.
C. The appreciation from a doctor approaching his retirement.
D. The story of caring for a son with a rare disorder.
2. What does the underlined word "alleviated" mean in paragraph 2?
A. Caused. B. Reduced. C. Described. D. Strengthened.
3. What can be inferred about the author from the text?
A. She has a habit of writing. B. She only has a son.
C. She suffers from the depression. D. She stays away from her family.
4. What conclusion can we make according to the text?
A. Wasting time is robbing oneself.
B. God helps those who help themselves.
C. Being on sea, sail; being on land, settle.
D. All things in their being are good for something.

_____/4
A small bowl bought at a yard sale in Connecticut for just $ 35 has been identified as a rare 15th-century Chinese antique.
The blue-and-white bowl was made by China's royal court during the Ming dynasty. It is now expected to sell for up to $500,000, according to Sotheby's auction(拍賣)house in New York, where the auction will take place next month.
The purchase was made last year near New Haven, Connecticut. “I was just hanging around there aimlessly. But when I saw this bowl, I didn't even bargain over the $35 asking price,” the owner said. Shortly after the purchase, he sent photos of the bowl to auction specialists, who identified it as an item of historical significance.
Upon closer inspection, the artifact was found to have originated from the period of Yongle Emperor, who ruled from 1403 to 1424 - a period noted for its distinctive porcelain (瓷器)techniques. It's now valued between $300,000 and $500,000, with the top estimate nearly 14,300 times the amount it was purchased for.
“I was deeply attracted by the techniques. You can see why this bowl is so highly-valued from the very smooth porcelain body, silky glaze(上釉)and special blue coloring, which were never reproduced in later dynasties,” McAteer, an auction specialist, said.
“The Yongle Emperor improved the porcelain techniques and elevated the importance of porcelain from being an ordinary bowl into a true work of art. This small bowl has both practical and artistic value, ” McAteer said.
1. What can we infer about the bowl's owner?
A. He found the bowl by accident.
B. He hesitated during the purchase.
C. He doubted whether the bowl was real.
D. He bought the bowl because it was cheap.
2. What makes the bowl so precious?
A. The blue color on it. B. The long history it has.
C. The people who made it. D. The unique techniques used.
3. What does the underlined word “elevated” in Paragraph 6 probably mean?
A. Forsaw. B. Promoted.
C. Assessed. D. Acknowledged.
4. What's the best title of the text?
A. An Amazing Bowl B. A Special Yard Sale
C. The Return of Porcelains D. A Man Making Fortune
1. A。 根據第三段第二句和第三句“I was just hanging around there aimlessly. But when I saw this bowl, I didn't even bargain over the $35 asking price”(我只是在那兒漫無目的地閑逛。 故選A。
2. D。 根據第三段第一句“Upon closer inspection, the artifact was found to have originated from the period of Yongle Emperor, who ruled from 1403 to 1424 - a period noted for its distinctive porcelain (瓷器)techniques.”(經仔細觀察,發(fā)現該工藝品起源于1403年至1424年的永樂年間,這一時期以其獨特的瓷器工藝而聞名。)
根據第六段第一句中的“The Yongle Emperor improved the porcelain techniques”(永樂皇帝改進了制瓷技術)和下文的“from being an ordinary bowl into a true work of art.(從普通的碗變成真正的藝術品。)
4. A。 根據第一段“A small bowl bought at a yard sale in Connecticut for just $ 35 has been identified as a rare 15th-century Chinese antique.”(一只在康涅狄格州的庭院拍賣會上以35美元購得的小碗被認定是一件罕見的15世紀中國古董。) 故選A。

Candles were burning bright, exciting my two-year-old son, Jack, who moved forward to blow them out.
Jack’s third birthday was still a few months away but ever since his dad Gary’s big day earlier that year, my son hadn’t stopped talking about celebrating his own. His older brothers Oliver, 6, and Josh, 10, were happy to sing the birthday song with him.
But over time, I grew concerned that Jack wasn’t well. My lovely boy was now a shadow of his former self. How could I ignore it, though doctors weren’t too concerned?
One day I was at work and shared my fears with a colleague. She comforted me and said it was safe to be careful. When I returned home later, I packed a bag and prepared to take Jack to hospital.
At the hospital, I just couldn’t shake the feeling that bad news was coming. My suspicions(懷疑) were confirmed. We were told he had a very rare form of cancer.
Jack was going downhill rapidly. Gary and I took it in turns to stay with him in the hospital. “Your birthday’s coming up,” I told Jack each day, hoping he could remember the times we had sung him happy birthday before.
“Jack’s only option is a stem cell transplant (干細胞移植), and a brother or a sister might be the best chance you have.” a doctor told us. “He can have my head if he needs it!” Josh cried. Oliver wasn’t as enthusiastic as his older brother, but it was a huge relief when he was confirmed as a match.
Doctors were cautious about saying Oliver might save Jack’s life in case it didn’t work as planned. To their relief, the result was comforting. They were moved by Oliver’s bravery.
Oliver, now seven, really did save his little brother and they’re now closer than ever. “I didn’t want to do it at the very beginning but at the end I kind of regretted feeling like that because now I know how important it was.” he said.
1. What mainly contributed to the earlier discovery of Jack’s illness?
A. Doctors’ increasing concern. B. Jack’s discomfort after the party.
C. His mother’s natural power and love. D. His mother’s colleague’s reminding.
2. Why did Jack’s mother mention his birthday each day?
A. To strengthen their memories. B. To encourage Jack to survive.
C. To prepare Jack for his birthday. D. To make Gary and herself relaxed.
3. What can we infer about Oliver?
A. He hesitated to donate his stem cells at first. B. He had a bad relationship with his brothers.
C. He envied his mother’s care of Jack. D. He was braver than his older brother.
4. What is the passage mainly about?
A. It’s never too late to save a life. B. Magic always comes from belief.
C. A brother in need is a brother indeed. D. The power to cure comes from the family.
根據文章第三段“But, over time, I grew concerned that Jack wasn’t well. My lovely boy was now a shadow of his former self. How could I ignore it, though doctors weren’t too concerned?”(但是,隨著時間的推移,我越來越擔心杰克的情況不太好。
根據第六段“Jack was going downhill rapidly. Gary and I took it in turns to stay with him in the hospital.“Your birthday’s coming up,”I told Jack each day, hoping he could remember the times we had sung him happy birthday before.”(杰克正在迅速下坡。
3. A。 根據文章最后一段最后一句“I didn’t want to do it at the very beginning but at the end I kind of regretted feeling like that because now I know how important it was.” he said.(“一開始我不想這么做,但最后我有點后悔,因為現在我知道這有多重要了。” 故選A。
4. D。 根據文章倒數第三段前兩句““Jack’s only option is a stem cell transplant (干細胞移植), and a brother or a sister might be the best chance you have.” a doctor told us. “He can have my head if he needs it!” Josh cried. 和最后一段“Oliver, now seven, really did save his little brother and they’re now closer than ever.“I didn’t want to do it at the very beginning but at the end I kind of regretted feeling like that because now I know how important it was.” he said.”(奧利弗,現在七歲了,真的救了他的弟弟,他們現在比以前更親密了。

I can't stop thinking about the video of a 10-ycar-old girl facing her fears at the top of a ski jump. Her fear, her courage, her joy, her pride-the whole thing has really struck a chord (觸動心弦) in me. Of course, the video makes me reflect on the times when I experienced the similar feelings. I remember how in those moments every cell in my body vibrated (顫動) with life. But it also reminded me of the times I didn't choose the more risky options.
I've always been a little bit of a chicken when it comes to my physical safety but I definitely pushed myself more when I was younger. Now that I'm a mom, I feel like I have to stay safe. I worry about what my kids would do without me and that leads me to make safe choices.
But as I watch this fourth grader overcome her fears, I think about how much this experience will mean to her in the future; she'll always have this as a reference point when she comes up against something scary or difficult. She'll be able to look back on this and say, “Well, I did that and the worst part was the bad feeling at the beginning.”
I know I want that view for my 8-year-old daughter and 5-year-old son. I know I want them to take risks. Maybe not every day, maybe not ski-jumping, definitely not extreme sports, but I deeply hope that they will push themselves to their limits, facing down fear with whatever tools they can use and enjoying the great rush that comes from attempting scary things and getting to the other side of them.
So if I want that for my kids, I have to honestly look at my own relationship with risk and say that yes... I play it safe. And I have to ask myself another question: Am I doing enough? Or do I need to make some changes in-my life so that my daughter and son can be inspired to make their own brave decisions?
1. How did the author react when watching that video?
A. She felt ashamed of herself. B. She realized that sport was dangerous.
C. She thought of her own past experiences. D. She regretted taking part in some risky activities.
2. What does the underlined part in Paragraph 4 most probably refer to?
A. Making safe choices is important. B. Taking a risk isn't as scary as it seems.
C. Taking a risk can make you feel bad. D. Overcoming fears requires a long time.
3. The author most probably thinks that she should ___________.
A. let her kids play with the girl in the video.
B. certainly allow her kids to try ski-jumping.
C. use some tools to practice her kids' courage.
D. participate in more risky activities to set an example.
4. What would be the best title for the passage?
A. Pushing ourselves to our limits B. Paying attention to kids' activities
C. Learning a kind of risky activity D. Encouraging kids to choose what they like
根據第一段的“Of course, the video makes me reflect on the times when I experienced the similar feeling.”(當然,這段視頻讓我回想起我有過類似感覺的時候)可知,作者看到視頻后想起了自己以前的經歷。故選C。
2. B。 根據第三段“But as I watch this fourth grader overcome her fears, I think about how much this experience will mean to her in the future; she'll always have this as a reference point when she comes up against something scary or difficult. She'll be able to look back on this and say, 'Well, I did that and the worst part was the bad feeling at the beginning.'”(但當我看著這個四年級學生克服她的恐懼時,我想到了這段經歷對她未來的意義有多大;當她遇到可怕或困難的事情時,她總是會把這個作為參考點。 推知,that view指代前面“Well, I did that and the worst part was the bad feeling at the beginning.”,所以作者想讓孩子們意識到,冒險嘗試并不像看起來都那么令人害怕,剛開始可能比較糟糕,但后面會越來越順利的。故選B。
3. D。 根據倒數第二段的“I know I want them to take risks. ”(我想讓他們冒險),最后一段的“So if I want that for my kids, I have to honestly look at my own relationship with risk”(所以,如果我想讓我的孩子也這樣,我必須誠實地審視自己與風險的關系)和“Or do I need to make some changes in my life so that my daughter and son can be inspired to make their own brave decisions?”(還是我需要在我的生活中做出一些改變,這樣我的女兒和兒子才能受到鼓舞,做出他們自己勇敢的決定?)
4. A。 根據文章的主要內容,尤其倒數第二段的“I know I want them to take risks. Maybe not every day, maybe not ski-jumping, definitely not extreme sports, but I deeply hope that they will push themselves to their limits, facing down fear with whatever tools they can use and enjoying the great rush that comes from attempting scary things and getting to the other side of them.”(我知道我想讓他們冒險。 故選A。

The kids get Christmas decorations out of a well-loved cardboard box with great care. Jenny stands beside them, softly explaining each treasure. She and Bob built their collection piece by piece during each year's after — Christmas sale.
We first met Bob and Jenny in the early days of our marriage. Someone had been returning our garbage cans to the garage each garbage day. Then one day we spotted him: an elderly man who lived across the street. I left cookies outside the garage with a thank-you note. Later that day, a typed letter had replaced the gift. It was from Bob and explained how he would come to walk the neighborhood on garbage day, returning cans for people he barely knew. Back when he had been fighting a war, his young wife, Jenny, had found herself living alone. Neighbors had taken the time to handle her garbage cans so she didn't have to.
A few years after we had moved in, Bob died. We told Jenny how special Bob had been to us. When Jenny invited us over to look through Christmas ornaments, I realized how hard it was to part with that box, a piece of Bob.
These days, we're piling up boxes of our own. We're planning a move. The house that seemed so huge six years ago is fully filled with furniture and books and, of course, people. We know it's time to go, and yet we can't seem to stick the For Sale sign up.
It's not just Jenny. It's the man who lets our kids pick peaches in his front yard. It's the ladies who leave overflowing baskets for our kids on Easter. It's the officer who smiles and makes me feel a little safer when Jim's away. Thank you, I'll say. For teaching us what it means to be a neighbor.
1. Why did Bob handle garbage cans for his neighbors?
A. To help those in need of financial aid. B. To repay his neighbors' unselfish help.
C. To set an example for the next generation. D. To persuade the neighbors of his greatness.
2. How does the author feel about Bob?
A. Wise and positive. B. Helpful and caring.
C. Hardworking and brave. D. Grateful and energetic.
3. For what reason does the author decide to move?
A. The house isn't big enough for the family. B. There is a better place for the family to live.
C. She gets fed up with all the garbage cans. D. Her kids need a better education in the future.
4. What is the best title for the text?
A. It is hard to say goodbye B. How can we leave our home?
C. What it means to be a neighbor D. This is what we call harmony
