When I reached the age f 12,my Aunt Fern gave me a tip n life that I will never frget.“Smile,” she said,putting her arm arund me.“If yu want friends,smile.Peple will want t be arund yu if yu d.” I have always been admiring Aunt Fern,wh at the age f 89 still spreads happiness arund even she herself is in difficulty.
I std in frnt f the mirrr in my bedrm and smiled as she suggested.I tried all kinds f smiles until I settled n my rdinary,simple,happiest lking teeth-shwing smile.I practiced it.It felt gd.Give it a try,and it’ll make yu happy,t.
This idea was further bsted (提高) when in the 10th grade I was advised by a friend in ur schl wh was a senir t try ut fr the cheerleader.She was the head cheerleader and wuld be graduating and mving n.Withut hesitatin,I tld her,“N.I wn’t try ut.”
I had tried ut the year befre and lst.In thse days,the cheerleaders were chsen by all the students.Despite my busy study,I had practiced hard and thught I did kay,but fund ut that I nt nly lst,but came in last.N way wuld I humiliate (羞辱) myself!Nt ever!
She persisted(堅持說),“If I teach yu hw t win,will yu try ut?I’m leaving and when I’m gne,there wn’t be a cheerleader.”

Biscayne is nt very far frm the lights,nise and excitement f dwntwn Miami.But it has a very different atmsphere frm the big city.Biscayne Natinal Park was established as a natinal mnument in 1968.It became a natinal park in 1980.That year,its size als increased.The park nw cvers mre than 70,000 hectares.
If yu enjy water,Biscayne is the park fr yu.Ninety-five percent f the park is water.Many kinds f animals live in these waters.Sme f them are threatened r endangered.Yu will find the huge,gentle West Indian manatee(海牛),the less gentle American crcdile,several kinds f sea turtles,and mre than 500 species f fish.
Scientists say human histry at Biscyane begins mre than 10,000 years ag.Hwever,evidence f the area’s earliest peple is mstly underwater nw,as water levels have risen ver time.Within the last 3,000 years,peple began t settle in the area.Scientists cntinue t learn abut these peple by examining the big hills f shells they left behind.The shells cntain ther waste,t,including early tls and husewares.
