Fr example, I was surprised that little things like hw drs fit int drframes were different. The bread was als very different. While it was fun at first t eat the varius kinds f fd, after sme time I lnged fr the white, square and sft bread I was used t. And the big things were nt that bad: the flks in the city f Ulm mstly didn’t speak English well but were very friendly and helpful.
One f these small differences, hwever, tripped me up early in my stay. The first few days, my emplyer put me up in a bed-and-breakfast htel. Then I fund a small studi apartment t rent. It was evening by the time I gt settled in. Since there were all-night grcery stres in the US and grcery stres in Malaysia were pen late at night, I made a habit f ging ut t buy sme fd and ther necessities like sap fr the shwer. But t my surprise and hrrr, every single shp was clsed! I was alne with n fd r any ther kind f necessary items. I wandered arund hpelessly in the street fr a while.
