War brke ut ne evening. Kate came int the rm. Sn, I heard her screaming, “Take yur shes away! Why under my bed!” Deafened, I saw my shes flying at me. I jumped t my feet and started yelling. She yelled back luder.
The rm was filled with anger. We culd nt have stayed tgether fr a single minute but fr a phne call. Kate answered it. Frm her end f the cnversatin, I culd tell right away her grandma was seriusly ill. When she hung up, she quickly crawled (爬) under her cvers, sbbing. Obviusly, that was smething she shuld nt g thrugh alne. All f a sudden, a warm feeling f sympathy rse up in my heart.
Slwly, I cllected the pencils, tk back the bks, made my bed, cleaned the scks and swept the flr, even n her side. I gt s int my wrk that I even didn’t ntice Kate had sat up. Harvesting fruit is a very precise peratin. The fruit must be picked when it is perfectly ripe (成熟的). But with pickers in shrt supply in recent years, grwers needed t quickly find anther way t harvest their crps. Tevel Aerbtics Technlgies came t help farmers with the Flying Autnmus Rbts(FARs)that can help pick fruit.
“Nt finding enugh fruit pickers is every farmer’s biggest cncern,” Yaniv Mar, Tevel’s funder and CEO said. Ask any farmer, anywhere in the wrld and they’ll tell yu they dn’t have the peple. Fd prductin is increasing, but labr availability (勞動力可用性) is decreasing. If there are nt enugh pickers, fruit will g bad n the trees. The flying rbts will wrk day and night in almst any weather, withut taking a break, t pick as much ripe fruit as pssible.
Mar set up Tevel in 2017 and develped the technlgy after seeing yung peple pick fruit and get tired after a few hurs. He realized that there had t be a better way, s he began develping the sftware and artificial intelligence (AI) that are needed fr the smart rbt pickers. “We have t teach the rbts abut the structure f each fruit, hw t get clse t the fruit and hw t turn it and pick it frm the tree,” Mar said.
The flying rbts circle rund trees and pick nly the ripe nes with a twist (扭動) f their arms. The rbts are fitted with cameras that use AI t assess the size and clr f the fruit s that nly the ripe nes are picked. The cameras als ensure that the rbts’ paths are nt blcked.
The rbts are picking Asian pears in Israel. In 2022, the FARs were used in pilt prgrams in Italy t pick peaches and ther fruits, as well as in the US. They dn’t substitute labr. Instead, they are a slutin fr the fewer human pickers. In the future fewer peple will wrk in picking and mre will wrk in managing the rbts, analyzing the data and making decisins.

Dr. Degenaar came int the lecture rm n the first Friday mrning f the term and asked us t write dwn ur wn understanding f the “sul”. Here was the “teacher” asking us what we thught — it was really an exciting experience. He was nt telling us what he thught but asking us hw we saw smething. The fllwing discussin was interesting. That was my first experience f real learning in a classrm.
Almst 50 years have passed since that experience. Of the ther lecturers wh “taught” me during that year, I remember they “taught” me the histry f Greek philsphy (哲學), but I remember little f that histry and nthing f thse lecturers. And mst f what I remember abut Greek philsphy is what I learned in Dr. Degenaar’s class, fr my wn interest.
I tk further curses with Dr. Degenaar in the fllwing years. Lake the first class, there was little “l(fā)ecturing” at us, but far mre invlvement (參與) f us all in a prcess f cmmn discvery in which we learned a lt abut each ther and the key pints f the day. The excitement f discvery stays with me. Then it tk me almst anther 20 years t get a deeper understanding f what had happened in that lecture hall: experiential learning.
Traditinally, learners have been seen as “empty cntainers” waiting t be “filled” with learning given them by the teacher. The learner is, therefre, dependent n the teacher fr what t think and hw t think. Cmpliance (遵從) is rewarded and s independent and riginal thinking is nt develped.
In cmparisn, in experiential learning, the learner is encuraged t think fr himself/herself nt t repeat the thught patterns f the teacher. The learning happens nt because f what a “teacher” r “l(fā)ecturer” says but because f what the learner des. In this sense, I think this is the best way t learn and everyne shuld try it and learn frm it.
12. Which wrd best describes the authr’s first Greek philsphy class?

B. T stress Dr. Degenaar’s great influence n him.
C. T pint ut Dr. Degenaar’s ppularity amng students.
D. T shw the authr’s deep interest in Greek philsphy.
14. Hw des experiential learning differ frm traditinal learning?
A. It has n specific learning places.B. It applies knwledge t medical care.
C. It encurages independent thinking.D. It fcuses mre n the result f learning.
15. What is the text mainly abut?
A. A respected teacher.B. A favrite university lessn.
C. The factrs f experiential learning.D. An effective learning methd.
