I began learning languages at the age f five, when my parents sent me t an after-schl French class at my primary schl. My parents, wh speak English, stressed using different languages at hme — even Grandpa culd speak a freign language! I dn’t remember much frm thse early classes, aside frm learning different clurs and days f the week ver and ver, but I d knw that it was during these mments that I first discvered the jy f jurneying away frm my surrundings with wrds. Because in French class it was easy t imagine we were smewhere else, away-far away-frm the present, which was a really attractive idea t a yung child with a wild imaginatin.
I stuck with French as I grew up; it was ne f thse strng relatinships that prvides cmfrt. It wasn’t until I began learning Spanish (西班牙語(yǔ)) at age 11 that I experienced a mre transfrmative (變化的) relatinship with languages.
Lking back, it strikes me that Spanish, fr me, was always abut feelings. At the beginning the fcus was n learning wrds and grammar t describe hw I was feeling, but I smehw ended up with a language that helped me express myself better than my native language.
After years f studying Spanish at schl, and living in Spain, my Spanish came t match, and perhaps even exceed (超過(guò)), my English. Despite having returned t the UK ten years ag, nw I still ften find myself stuck in English cnversatins, unable t express a thught r feeling with quite the same depth as I wuld be able t in Spanish.
Spanish affrds me anther kind f liveliness. I’m nt just “in lve”. T me, “te ech de mens” huses mre feeling than “I miss yu,” which takes me back t a time in my life that I miss a lt.

Last September, a strange seismic signal (地震信號(hào)), lasting mre than a week, attracted the attentin f researchers arund the wrld. It tk 68 experts frm 15 cuntries t discver the cause f the “USO” -Unidentified Seismic Object.
The term USO is used infrmally by scientists fr unusual seismic signals that can’t be explained, accrding t Kristian Svennevig, the lead authr f a new reprt n this signal. Frm the start, scientists agreed this signal was nt frm an earthquake.
Svennevig cmpared earthquakes t hitting pian keys with frce, creating a mix f sunds that disappeared quickly. Hwever, the unusual signal was like a single pian key prducing a clear sund that lasted fr nine days.
Researchers tracked the signal t a huge snwslide in eastern Greenland’s Dicksn fjrd (峽灣), which was frmed by melting (融化) ice due t climate change. Sme 1.2 kilmeters abve the fjrd, a muntaintp fell, driving mre than 25 millin cubic meters f rck and ice int the water-enugh t fill 10,000 Olympic-sized swimming pls.
The resulting tsunami (海嘯) reached a height f 200 meters. The wave’s energy was caught in the rcky fjrd, causing the water t mve back and frth. This mvement created the seismic signal.
Svennevig nted that understanding this event tk time. Even when they had ideas abut what happened, they needed mre infrmatin and imprved mdels t supprt their findings. “We culd nly shw that the tsunami was caught and kept mving inside the fjrd fr nine days after we used special army maps and imprved ur tsunami mdels,” Svennevig explained.
T the researchers, the signal served as a wakeup call-similar events may happen with landfalls in ther fjrds r lakes due t climate change, which culd lead t mre landfalls and tsunamis in the Arctic. Understanding this event helps scientists learn mre abut hw the Earth is changing due t glbal warming. There is still much t discver as we face the effects f climate change.

29.What caused the seismic signal?
A.A wildfire.B.A snwslide.
C.A heavy rain.D.An earthquake.

The cnditins fr sme f extreme fires in recent years have becme between 3 and 20 times glbally. Recrd-breaking fires burned in Canada and turned skies far away in New Yrk range and grey. The largest recrded fires in the Eurpean Unin killed 19 peple in Greece, and fires in western Amaznia brught dirt y air t lcal twns. And we just went thrugh a super destructive wildfire seasn in Athens, Greece, in August 2024.
A majr reprt shws that the amunt f carbn emissins (碳排放) frm wildfires between 2023 and 2024 was 8.2 billin tns f CO2. Frest wildfires wuld release mre carbn emissins, pse a higher risk t peple, and take lnger t recver.
There is n single definitin f what fire can be an extreme fire. It culd be measured by burned area, intensity, r hw unusual they are. “At 200 square kilmetres, this year’s fires in Greece are much smaller than the 900 square kilmetres burned last fire seasn, but it wuld cunt as an extreme fire, because f its clseness t and ptential damage t peple,” said authr Dr Je McNrtn.
When this big wildfire tears thrugh Athens, scientists in Eurpe are racing t understand why extreme fires like this are becming mre cmmn. They find climate change is the key factr. Warmer temperatures dry ut frests, which make a fire mre likely t spread. It can als cause mre plants t grw, which prvides mre fuel (燃料) fr the fire. Humans als influence fires, like starting them themselves, breaking up the landscape, r hw well they fight them.
Dr Je says the reprt will bth guide preparatins fr wildfires, and help the wrld understand the simple fact that fires will keep getting wrse until fssil fuels are replaced with renewable energy surces. T tackle the prblem, leaders shuld cnsider prtecting frest bundaries, reducing the amunt f natural fuel fire, impsing fire bans n high-risk days, and investing mre in early warning predictin systems.
32.Hw is paragraph 1 develped?
A.By giving examples.B.By making cmparisns.
C.By discussing slutins.D.By explaining causes.
33.Why was the fire in Greece cnsidered as an extreme fire?
A.It burned a very large area.B.It brught harmful effects.
C.It had much carbn emissins.D.It lasted a lng perid f time.
34.What mainly causes extreme fires?
A.Size f frests.B.Human behavir.C.Lcatin f fires.D.Climate warming.
35.What des the underlined wrd “tackle” in the last paragraph mean?
A.Apply fr.B.Bring abut.C.Deal with.D.Fcus n.

根據(jù)文章第一段“My parents, wh speak English, stressed using different languages at hme — even Grandpa culd speak a freign language!(我的父母說(shuō)英語(yǔ),他們強(qiáng)調(diào)在家里使用不同的語(yǔ)言——甚至爺爺也會(huì)說(shuō)外語(yǔ)!)”及倒數(shù)第二段“Despite having returned t the UK ten years ag, nw I still ften find myself stuck in English cnversatins, unable t express a thught r feeling with quite the same depth as I wuld be able t in Spanish.(盡管我十年前回到了英國(guó),但現(xiàn)在我仍然經(jīng)常發(fā)現(xiàn)自己陷入英語(yǔ)對(duì)話中,無(wú)法像用西班牙語(yǔ)那樣有深度地表達(dá)思想或感覺(jué))”可推知,作者的父母都說(shuō)英語(yǔ),家鄉(xiāng)在英國(guó),因此,作者的母語(yǔ)是英語(yǔ)。故選B。
根據(jù)文章第一段“Because in French class it was easy t imagine we were smewhere else, away-far away-frm the present, which was a really attractive idea t a yung child with a wild imaginatin.(因?yàn)樵诜ㄕZ(yǔ)課上很容易想象我們?cè)趧e的地方,離現(xiàn)在很遠(yuǎn)很遠(yuǎn),這對(duì)一個(gè)想象力豐富的孩子來(lái)說(shuō)是一個(gè)很有吸引力的想法)”可知,作者在法語(yǔ)課上感到快樂(lè)是因?yàn)榭梢韵胂笠粋€(gè)美好的世界。故選A。
根據(jù)文章第三段“Lking back, it strikes me that Spanish, fr me, was always abut feelings. At the beginning the fcus was n learning wrds and grammar t describe hw I was feeling, but I smehw ended up with a language that helped me express myself better than my native language.(現(xiàn)在回想起來(lái),我發(fā)現(xiàn)西班牙語(yǔ)對(duì)我來(lái)說(shuō),總是關(guān)乎感情。
根據(jù)文章最后一段“Spanish affrds me anther kind f liveliness. I’m nt just “in lve”. T me, “te ech de mens” huses mre feeling than “I miss yu,” which takes me back t a time in my life that I miss a lt.(西班牙語(yǔ)給了我另一種活力。

由文章第三段“Svennevig cmpared earthquakes t hitting pian keys with frce, creating a mix f sunds that disappeared quickly. Hwever, the unusual signal was like a single pian key prducing a clear sund that lasted fr nine days.(Svennevig將地震比作用力敲擊鋼琴鍵,創(chuàng)造出一種很快消失的混合聲音。 故選A項(xiàng)。
與文章第四段“Researchers tracked the signal t a huge snwslide in eastern Greenland’s Dicksn fjrd (峽灣), which was frmed by melting (融化) ice due t climate change. Sme 1.2 kilmeters abve the fjrd, a muntaintp fell, driving mre than 25 millin cubic meters f rck and ice int the water-enugh t fill 10,000 Olympic-sized swimming pls.(研究人員將信號(hào)追蹤到格陵蘭島東部迪克森峽灣的一場(chǎng)巨大雪崩,這場(chǎng)雪崩是由氣候變化導(dǎo)致的冰川融化形成的。
由文章倒數(shù)第二段“Svennevig nted that understanding this event tk time. Even when they had ideas abut what happened, they needed mre infrmatin and imprved mdels t supprt their findings.
由文章最后一段“T the researchers, the signal served as a wakeup call-similar events may happen with landfalls in ther fjrds r lakes due t climate change, which culd lead t mre landfalls and tsunamis in the Arctic. Understanding this event helps scientists learn mre abut hw the Earth is changing due t glbal warming. There is still much t discver as we face the effects f climate change.(對(duì)于研究人員來(lái)說(shuō),這個(gè)信號(hào)是一個(gè)警鐘,由于氣候變化,其他峽灣或湖泊的登陸也可能發(fā)生類(lèi)似的事件,這可能會(huì)導(dǎo)致北極更多的登陸和海嘯。

由第一段“The cnditins fr sme f extreme fires in recent years have becme between 3 and 20 times glbally. Recrd-breaking fires burned in Canada and turned skies far away in New Yrk range and grey. The largest recrded fires in the Eurpean Unin killed 19 peple in Greece, and fires in western Amaznia brught dirt y air t lcal twns. And we just went thrugh a super destructive wildfire seasn in Athens, Greece, in August 2024.(近年來(lái),全球一些極端火災(zāi)的條件已經(jīng)增加了3到20倍。 故選A項(xiàng)。
根據(jù)第三段最后一句“‘At 200 square kilmetres, this year’s fires in Greece are much smaller than the 900 square kilmetres burned last fire seasn, but it wuld cunt as an extreme fire, because f its clseness t and ptential damage t peple,’ said authr Dr Je McNrtn.(Dr Je McNrtn說(shuō):‘今年希臘的火災(zāi)面積為200平方公里,比上一個(gè)火災(zāi)季節(jié)燃燒的900平方公里小得多,但由于它靠近人們并可能對(duì)人們?cè)斐蓚Γ虼藢⒈灰暈闃O端火災(zāi)。’)”
根據(jù)第四段“They find climate change is the key factr. Warmer temperatures dry ut frests, which make a fire mre likely t spread. It can als cause mre plants t grw, which prvides mre fuel (燃料) fr the fire. Humans als influence fires, like starting them themselves, breaking up the landscape, r hw well they fight them.(他們發(fā)現(xiàn)氣候變化是關(guān)鍵因素。
根據(jù)最后一段最后一句“T tackle the prblem, leaders shuld cnsider prtecting frest bundaries, reducing the amunt f natural fuel fire, impsing fire bans n high-risk days, and investing mre in early warning predictin systems.(為了tackle這個(gè)問(wèn)題,領(lǐng)導(dǎo)人應(yīng)該考慮保護(hù)森林邊界,減少天然燃料火災(zāi)的數(shù)量,在高風(fēng)險(xiǎn)的日子里實(shí)施防火令,并加大對(duì)預(yù)警預(yù)測(cè)系統(tǒng)的投資)”可知,采取上述這些措施都是為了處理極端火災(zāi)頻發(fā)的問(wèn)題,因此,tackle 意為“處理”的意思。

36.根據(jù)上文“Ging frm middle schl t freshman year f high schl is a big challenge.(從初中到高一是一個(gè)很大的挑戰(zhàn)。)”可知,本句提出了話題“新生入學(xué)是一個(gè)挑戰(zhàn)”,而下文中出現(xiàn)了小標(biāo)題,說(shuō)明這里需要一個(gè)過(guò)渡句承上啟下,G項(xiàng)“Here are sme ways t help yu deal with anxiety and prepare fr the first year.(以下是一些幫助你處理焦慮情緒并為第一年做好準(zhǔn)備的方法。)”是一個(gè)總起下文的句子,且句中“help yu deal with anxiety and prepare fr the first year(幫助你處理焦慮情緒并為第一年做好準(zhǔn)備)”是對(duì)上文中“挑戰(zhàn)”的應(yīng)對(duì),符合語(yǔ)境。故選G項(xiàng)。

39.根據(jù)上文“High schl and middle schl are very different in studying.(高中和初中在學(xué)習(xí)上有很大的不同。)”和下文“Yu can buy a planner and spend a few minutes each night ging ver the ntes yu tk in class that day. E項(xiàng)“Try t get as rganised as pssible s yu can stay n tp f yur studies.(盡可能有條理,這樣你就可以學(xué)得很好。)”符合語(yǔ)境,其中“as rganized as pssible(盡可能有條理)”與小標(biāo)題“Get rganized.(要有條理。)”對(duì)應(yīng)。故選E項(xiàng)。
根據(jù)本段內(nèi)容“While there’s n need t plan every day fr the next three years, it can’t hurt t make a nte f classes yu want t take r activities yu’d like t try. Believe it r nt, the three years g by really fast. 56.
此處為強(qiáng)調(diào)句結(jié)構(gòu)“It is + 被強(qiáng)調(diào)部分 + that + 其他部分”,強(qiáng)調(diào)的是her hard wrk,故填that。
