Children wh are invlved with the arts make greater achievements in their educatin: thse engaged with drama have greater literary ability while thers taking part in musical practice exhibit greater skills in math and languages. Kids with preference fr the arts have a greater chance f finding emplyment in the future. Participating in the arts is essential fr child develpment; encuraging children t express themselves in cnstructive ways culd help t frm healthy emtinal respnses in later life.

Bld-Dping Champin
Bld dping (違規(guī)輸血) t imprve perfrmance is frbidden in prfessinal sprts. Athletes can use this technique t fuel their muscles with mre xygen-carrying red bld cells—fr example, by receiving a transfusin. But many animals dpe naturally: sheep, fishes and hrses can bst their bld’s capacity t carry xygen by 16 t 74 percent in physically demanding situatins. Nw a study shws that an Antarctic fish called the bald ntthen can increase its carrying capacity by mre than 200 percent t pursue an active life in cld waters.
Like mst fishes native t Antarctica, the bald ntthen’s bld cntains anti-freeze prteins that help it withstand extreme cld. But these prteins, alng with red bld cells (RBCs), can make bld sticky and hard t circulate. Sme Antarctic fishes adapt by remving RBCs altgether, absrbing xygen directly frm the water via skin as they passively await prey (獵物). Bald ntthens, hwever, actively swim belw surface ice t chase ther active life when aviding seals and penguins. Fr this behavir, “yu need t supply mre xygen t the muscles,” says Michael Axelssn, a physilgist at the University f Gthenburg in Sweden and c-authr f the new study.
The scientists cmpared RBC levels in samples cllected frm bald ntthens relaxing in glass tanks with thse in samples drawn frm fish they “chased” using a plastic tube. RBC levels were at 9 percent in the resting animals but 27 percent in the exercised nes, shwing a 207 percent increase in the latter’s bld xygen carrying capacity. “N ther fish we’ve seen can mre than duble their RBCs r drp their numbers t such a lw level when resting,” Axelssn says. The fish’s spleen (脾) stres RBCs, and the researcher fund that t release mre int the bldstream, the rgan shrinks t weigh 41 percent less.
The enrmus changes in RBC levels initially surprised Gerald Kyman, a bilgist at the Scripps Institutin f Oceangraphy, wh was nt invlved in the study. He ntes, hwever, that these animals have fewer bld cells t begin with, s maintaining circulatin with a tripled RBC cunt is less difficult. If a diving Weddell seal pushed its RBC levels frm 40 t 90 percent, fr instance, its bld wuld be dangerusly hard t pump.
Yet bald ntthens d face trade-ffs fr their ability. The scientists fund bld pressure was 12 percent higher and the heart wrked 30 percent harder in active individuals. Bald ntthens can rest during quiet times, but when they need t use their abilities, Axelssn says, “these fish have t live with mre RBCs because they need mre xygen.”
32.Cmpared with mst fishes native t Antarctica, what is special abut the bald ntthen?
A.Its bld cntains anti-freeze prteins.
B.It can absrb xygen directly frm water via is skin.
C.Its red bld cells can make bld sticky and hard t circulate.
D.It actively swims belw surface ice when chasing ther active life.
33.What des “thse” in Paragraph 3 refer t?
A.RBC tanks.D.Fishes.
34.It can be inferred frm the last tw paragraphs that ________.
A.the RBC levels in seals can increase frm 40 t 90 percent
B.bald ntthens’ bld pressure are 12 percent higher than ther fishes
C.when bald ntthens chase active life, there are mre RBCs in their bdies
D.Gerald Kyman, a marine bilgist prvided sme suggestins n this study
35.What is the main purpse f the passage?
A.T explain study methds n fishes.
B.T intrduce sme findings abut a fish.
C.T present a way t imprve athletes’ perfrmance.
D.T raise peple’s awareness t prtect bald ntthens.

Scial bnd f animals
Friendship is an imprtant part f human life. Friends can share ur jys and ur hardships. We aren’t alne. 36
Recently, a British research team finished an eight-year study f Ind-Pacific dlphins ff the cast f-Western Australia. These dlphins can use different tls t search fr fd. 37 Other factrs, like family clseness, have n impact n this relatinship.
“It suggests that dlphins frm scial bnds based n shared interests,” UK bilgist Simn Allen tld Science Daily. “Using different tls is time-cnsuming fr dlphins t cperate.”
Apart frm dlphins, elephants, hrses and bats are als knwn t frm friendships. 38
Of curse nt, The Atlantic reprted. In 2015, a gat was riginally left in a tiger’s enclsure (圍場) as a meal. 39 The Atlantic said it’s nt unusual amng captive (圈禁的) animals. That’s because in captivity, animals dn’t need t spend much time and energy marking their territry r lking fr mates the way they wuld in the wild. They are actually mre likely t feel bred. “In this particular situatin, the animal’s mtivatin t engage scially and playfully may be higher than eating.”
40 Take bats as an example. In 2011, scientists fund bats prefer t hang ut with a few certain friends, keeping lse ties t the rest f their grup.
Humans aren’t s different. “We d nt wrk, play and live tgether with the same friends all the time,” Swiss zlgist Gerald Kerth explained. “But nevertheless, we are able t maintain lng term relatinships... despite ur ften highly dynamic scial lives.”
A.Many different animals als make friends.
B.Are friendships nly limited t the same species?
C.Dlphins live n fish but they d nt spend all their time lking fr fish.
D.Mre interestingly, animals nt nly make friends but als try t keep lasting friendships.
E.The gat was frightened f the tiger, and pretended t make friends with it fr the sake f its wn safety.
F.The researchers fund that these dlphins are mre willing t hang ut with partners that like the same tl.
G.But instead f eating the gat, the tiger likes t play with it and gets jealus when ther animals are clse t his friend.
