A
Abut twenty f us had been frtunate enugh t receive invitatins t a film-studi(影棚)t take part in a crwd-scene. Althugh ur "act" wuld last nly fr a shrt time, we culd see quite a number f interesting things.
We all std at the far end f the studi as wrkmen prepared the scene, setting up trees at the edge f a winding path. Very sn, bright lights were turned n and the big mvie-camera was
wheeled int psitin. The directr shuted smething t the camera peratr and then went t speak t the tw famus actrs nearby. Since it was ht in the studi, it came as a surprise t us t see ne f the actrs put n a heavy vercat and start walking alng the path. A big fan began blwing tiny white feathers dwn n him, and sn the trees were cvered in "snw". Tw mre fans were turned n, and a "strng wind" blew thrugh the trees. The picture lked s real that it made us feel cld.
The next scene was a cmplete cntrast (對比). The way it was filmed was quite unusual. Pictures in frnt taken n an island in the Pacific were shwn n a glass screen (幕). An actr and actress std f the scene s that they lked as if they were at the water’s edge n an island. By a simple trick like this, palm trees, sandy beaches, and blue, clear skies had been brught int the studi!
Since it was ur turn next, we were left wndering what scene wuld be prepared fr us. Fr a full three minutes in ur lives we wuld be experiencing the excitement f being film "stars"!

The elephant was lying heavily n its side, fast asleep. A few dgs started barking at it. The elephant wke up in a terrible anger: it chased the dgs int the village where they ran fr safety.
That didn't stp the elephant. It destryed a dzen huses and injured several peple. The villagers were scared and angry. Then smene suggested calling Pārbati, the elephant princess.
Pārbati Barua's father was a hunter f tigers and an elephant tamer. He taught Parbati t ride an elephant befre she culd even walk. He als taught her the dangerus art f the elephant rund-up -- hw t catch wild elephants.
Pārbati hasn't always lived in the jungle. After a happy childhd hunting with her father, she was sent t barding schl in the city. But Pārbati never gt used t being there and many years later she went back t her ld fife. "Life in the city is t dull. Catching elephants is an adventure and the excitement lasts fr days after the chase," she says.
But Pārbati desn't catch elephants just fr fun. "My wrk," she says, "is t rescue man frm the elephants, and t keep the elephants safe frm man." And this is exactly what Parbati has been ding fr many years. Increasingly, the Indian elephant is angry: fr many years, illegal hunters have attacked it and its hme in the jungle has been reduced t small pieces f land. It is nw fighting back. Whenever wild elephants enter a tea garden r a village, Parbati is called t
guide the animals back t the jungle befre they can kill.

"Eventually they grw t lve their tamers and never frget them. They are als mre lyal than humans," she said, as she climbed up ne f her elephants and sat n the giant, happy animal. Gerge was very interested in ld dictinaries, He’d recently fund a cllectr in Australia wh was selling a rare first editin. When the parcel arrived, the bk was in perfect cnditin and Gerge was delighted. But while he was having lunch, Gerge glanced at the pht in the newspaper that the bk had been wrapped in. He was astnished—the smiling face was lder than he remembered but unmistakable! Trembling, Gerge started reading.
