Essentially, everyne has tw ages: a chrnlgical(按時間計算的) age, hw ld the calendar says yu are, and a bilgical age, basically the age at which yur bdy functins as it cmpares t average fitness r health levels.
“Chrnlgical age isn’t hw ld we really are. It’s merely a number,” said Prfessr David Sinclair at Harvard University. “It is bilgical age that determines ur health and ultimately ur lifespan(壽命). We all age bilgically at different rates accrding t ur genes, what we eat, hw much we exercise, and what envirnment we live in. Bilgical age is the number f candles we really shuld be blwing ut. In the future, with advances in ur ability t cntrl bilgical age, we may have even fewer candles n ur birthday cake than the previus ne.”
T calculate bilgical age, Prfessr Levine at Yale University identified nine bi-markers that seemed t be the mst influential n lifespan by a simple bld test. The numbers f thse markers, such as bld sugar and immune measures, can be put int the cmputer, and the algrithm(算法) des the rest.
Perhaps what’s mst imprtant here is that these measures can be changed. Dctrs can take this infrmatin and help patients make changes t lifestyle, and hpefully take steps t imprve their bilgical cnditins. “I think the mst exciting thing abut this research is that these things aren’t set in stne,” Levine said. “Peple can be given the infrmatin earlier and take steps t imprve their health befre it’s t late.”
Levine even entered her wn numbers int the algrithm. She was surprised by the results. “I always cnsidered myself a very healthy persn. I’m physically active; I eat what I cnsider a fairly healthy diet. But I did nt find my results t be as gd as I had hped they wuld be. It was a wake-up call,” she said.
Levine is wrking with a grup t prvide access t the algrithm nline s that anyne can calculate their bilgical age, identify ptential risks and take steps t imprve their wn health in the lng run. “N ne wants t live an extremely lng life with a lt f chrnic diseases,” Levine said. “By delaying the develpment f mental and physical functining prblems, peple can still be engaged in sciety in their senir years. That is the ideal we shuld be pursuing.”
20. Bilgical age depends n __________.
A. what the calendar says abut ur age
B. when we start t take utdr exercise
C. whether we can adapt urselves t the envirnment
D. hw well ur bdy wrks cmpared with ur peers’
21. What des the authr want t tell us by Levine’s example in Paragraph 5?
A. It is necessary t change ur diet regularly.
B. The test results may give us wrng infrmatin.
CWaking up early in the mrning is gd fr ur fitness.
D. The algrithm can reveal ur ptential health prblems.
22. Which f the fllwing wuld be the best title fr the passage?
A. Bi-markers Can Make Us Yunger
B. Chrnlgical Age and Bilgical Age
C. Old Peple can Still be Engaged in Sciety
D. Bilgical Age can Lag behind r Exceed Chrnlgical Age

If yu’re lking fr any srt f career advice, it’s likely yu’ve heard a certain suggestin befre: Pursue yur passin! In this ecnmy, yu’ll barely make any mney n matter what yu d, s why nt d smething yu’re passinate abut?
Hwever, that’s nt exactly hw the wrld wrks. Passin is rarely enugh t get yu thrugh n its wn. Finding a prject yu lve is all well and gd n a sunny day when yu’re feeling kay. But n thse gray days when yu’re suffering frm the flu r yu’re therwise dwn, passin is rarely enugh t get it dne.
I knw that feeling. At the mst basic level, I spend every day writing. I’m passinate abut writing and the tpics I cver. But tday, it’s t cld utside. I didn’t get enugh sleep and all I can think abut is crawling int a nice warm bed. Yet, I’m sitting here, typing up a pst just fr yu. Hw d I keep it up?
There’s anther rute yu culd g. Yu culd take n anything that pays the bills, then find fun prjects yu’re passinate abut n the side. This is exactly the rute I tk when I was a freelancer(自由職業(yè)者) fresh ut f cllege. That apprach, as it happens, leads straight t passin burnut.
The reasn I’m still planted firmly at my keybard n a day when I dn’t have an immediate deadline is nt just because I’m passinate abut writing. I als have a sense f purpse. Besides fllwing yur passin, yu als need t define yur purpse. I write t help businesses with their cntent because I knw my writing makes a difference fr them.
My purpse keeps my passin. My wrk is smething I’ll stick t whether r nt I feel passinate abut writing anything tday.
Yu can find yur purpse as well as yur passin-and then find a place where bth intersect(交叉). It may be easier t find a day jb yu can tlerate. But the nly way t find smething that wrks fr yu is t get invlved with different grups and t explre different purpses yu care abut. Yu dn’t need an all-cnsuming cause, but yu d need smething yu care enugh abut t give up sleeping in n the weekends. Only then will yu really be capable f pursuing yur passin, and yur purpse alng with it.
23. Wh d yu think the passage is written fr?
A. Writers.B. Jb hunters.C. Managers.D. Career planners.
24. Which f the fllwing statements will the authr mst prbably agree with?
A. Peple can wrk with passin if they earn a lt f mney.
B. Peple wrk well nly n sunny days r when they are well.
C. Peple need t find as many jbs as pssible t discver their interest.
D. Peple wrk hard even thugh they are nt passinate abut smething.
25. What’s the authr’s attitude tward his jb?
A. Dubtful.B. Uncncerned.C. Determined.D. Challenged.
26. What’s the main idea f the passage?
A. The difference between passin and purpse and hw it affects yur jb search.
B. The imprtance f passin and hw it gets yu thrugh when facing prblems.
C. The relatinship between passin and purpse and hw it imprves yur life.
D. The imprtance f purpse and hw it helps yu keep a jb.

Cwhether we can adapt urselves t the envirnment
D. hw well ur bdy wrks cmpared with ur peers’
21. What des the authr want t tell us by Levine’s example in Paragraph 5?
A. It is necessary t change ur diet regularly.
B. The test results may give us wrng infrmatin.
C. Waking up early in the mrning is gd fr ur fitness.
【答案】20. D 21. D 22. D

根據(jù)第一段中的“If yu’re lking fr any srt f career advice, it’s likely yu’ve heard a certain suggestin befre: Pursue yur passin! In this ecnmy, yu’ll barely make any mney n matter what yu d, s why nt d smething yu’re passinate abut?(如果你正在尋求職業(yè)建議,很可能你以前聽過這樣的建議:追求你的激情!在目前的經(jīng)濟(jì)形勢下,無論你做什么都賺不到錢,所以為什么不做一些你熱愛的事情呢?)”以及最后一段中“Yu can find yur purpse as well as yur passin-and then find a place where bth intersect(交叉). (你可以找到你的目標(biāo)和激情,然后找到兩者相交的地方。)”可知,文章指出,在當(dāng)下的經(jīng)濟(jì)情況下,對于正在尋找工作的讀者們,作者提出:人們不僅要找到自己的激情,還要去定義自己的目標(biāo),以此找到兩者的交叉點,從而追尋自己的激情和目標(biāo)。故推斷本文寫給找工作的人們。故選B。
【24題詳解】
推理判斷題。根據(jù)第二段中“Passin is rarely enugh t get yu thrugh n its wn.(激情很少能讓你獨自度過難關(guān)。)”以及最后一段中“Yu can find yur purpse as well as yur passin-and then find a place where bth intersect(交叉).
