As a teenager, I became a pts and pans salespersn, and my ability t read peple earned me enugh mney t buy my first huse. Selling gave me the chance t meet peple and study them clse up and t knw whether they wuld buy r nt, simply by watching their bdy language.

When we talk mre bradly f bdy language, rather than gd pstures, we can actually see the effects it has n relatinships right thrughut the animal kingdm. In particular, bdy language is used t express pwer thrugh expansive pstures.
Yu might knw abut Amy Cuddy's famus TED Talk and her incredible insights int hw psture changes ur thughts. Cuddy and her team study bdy language, particularly what they call “high-pwer” and “l(fā)w-pwer” pses.
“High-pwer” pses refer t the act f taking a psture f cnfidence, which can help yu feel mre self-cnfident, even after nly tw minutes. Typical high-pwer pses are abut pening up. Yu stretch and expand yur bdy t take up as much space as pssible. Fr example, bsses are ding high-pwer pses when they lean back in their chairs, put their hands behind their heads, and kick their feet up nt their desks. Meanwhile, peple take lw-pwer psitins when they're feeling helpless r defeated. They clse up, arms arund themselves, taking up the smallest space.
Sme even mre recent studies tk this even further: A study by researchers frm Clumbia and Harvard Universities shwed that bdy language symblizing pwer can actually affect ur decisin-making, unintentinally. The researchers measured the desire fr risk f participants in either expansive, pwerful pses r cnstricted (收縮的) pses. Thse in the pwerful pses nt nly felt mre pwerful and in cntrl, but were 45% mre likely t take risky actin.
“This isn't abut what yur bdy language is cmmunicating t thers; it's abut what yur bdy language is cmmunicating t yu. Yur bdy language is changing yur mind, which changes yur behavir and which changes yur utcmes,” said Cuddy.

Accrding t a well-knwn team f researchers, there are three kinds f smiles: genuine, false, and miserable. Hw can we distinguish them? In experiments where subjects are shwn phts f fake and spntaneus(自發(fā)的)smiles, peple are pretty gd at telling the difference. But in the real wrld, mst peple are less able t distinguish between them. They are distracted by ther elements f cmmunicatin such as speech, hand gestures, and ther bdy mvements. Hwever, if they were t fcus nly n the face, they wuld prbably knw whether a smile was genuine r nt.
This is because tw muscles are invlved in spntaneus smiling. The first muscle is a ring-like band f muscle arund each eye. When it cntracts, it causes what we knw as “smiling eyes”. The ther muscle extends frm the tp f the cheekbne t the crners f the muth. It mves the muth upwards when we smile. This muscle n its wn prduces what we call the “muth smile”. When peple genuinely smile, in a spntaneus burst f psitive emtins, the crners f the muth mve up and the muscles arund the eyes als cntract. It is these muscles that shw that a smile is sincere.
Smiles can mean very different things in different cuntries. In the USA, fr example, a smile is a friendly, psitive gesture f trust. In cntrast, in sme Asian scieties, peple smile nt nly when they are happy, f curse, but als when they feel anger, sadness, cnfusin, r embarrassment, perhaps t mask their true feelings.
Cultural nrms aside, sme peple tend t smile mre than thers and that seems t indicate they are cheerful, ptimistic types. But that relatinship isn't strictly true. Sme peple rarely smile and are quite happy. Others ften have a smile n their face when they are actually feeling anxius. Human cmmunicatin is full f uncertainties and we smetimes have a difficult time understanding each ther, but a genuine, heartfelt smile that lights up a face can never be misunderstd.
32.What d the experiments shw?
A.Mst peple tend t frce a smile when taking pictures.
B.Peple wearing a fake smile can be genuine smetimes.
C.Peple using bdy language ften smile genuinely.
D.Mst peple fail t detect fake smiles in reality due t distractins.
33.What is Paragraph 2 mainly abut?
A.Hw t cntrl facial muscles.
B.Hw smiles influence emtins.
C.Hw t distinguish different smiles.
D.Hw spntaneus smiling happens.
34.Why are the USA and sme Asian scieties mentined in the text?
A.T shw the prblems brught by smiling.
B.T shw sme cultural differences in smiling.
C.T explain hw peple hide their true feelings.
D.T explain why smiling mre can have psitive effects.
35.What can we infer frm the last paragraph?
A.Smiling has little t d with the character.
B.Smiling can clear up misunderstandings.
C.Peple rarely smiling are hard t get n with.
D.Uncertain smiles cannt lead t clse relatinships.

倒數(shù)第二段第一句“Smiles can mean very different things in different cuntries.”
故選A。
38.B 根據(jù)下文,尤其是“This mirrring technique has even been shwn t increase a persn's gdwill tward the persn mirrring him r her.”
41.D 根據(jù)上文的“Cheryl culd nly cmmunicate by her gesture I culdn't understand”并結(jié)合下文作者學(xué)習(xí)手語后兩人的默契交流可推知,當(dāng)時作者不懂朋友媽媽——Cheryl的手語,所以感到尷尬。A.
42.C 從上文“Cheryl culd nly cmmunicate by her gesture I culdn't understand”可推知,作者不懂手語,所以需要有人給她解釋。A.帶領(lǐng);B.指;C.解釋;D. 故選C。
43.D 由第二段最后一句中的“her daughter-in-law, even her grandchildren, wuldn't take the time t learn sign language”可知,她的家人有的沒有學(xué)習(xí)手語,所以他們不懂她的手語,無法與她交流。 A.希望;B.贊成;C.滿足;D.孤獨(dú)。故選D。
44.B 由空前的“I didn't get the ntepad r let my friend Sean help me”并結(jié)合第五段第一句中的“Within three weeks I had learned”可推知,作者沒有使用記事本或者讓Sean幫助交流,而是決定學(xué)習(xí)手語。A.離開;B.學(xué)習(xí);C.檢查;D. 故選B。
45.A 由空后的“as I spelled ut each wrd with gesture”并結(jié)合上文提到的她的家人有的不理解她的手語,她感到孤獨(dú)可推知,有人能和她交流了,她應(yīng)該感到欣慰。A.欣慰;B.憤怒;C.失望;D. 故選A。
A.高級的;B.
48.A 由空前的“everyne was signing...”和空后的“Cheryl slapped her hand, lked me in the eye”可推知,作者能夠使用手語與Cheryl交流了,耳聾的人的手勢,即“sign”就是他們的會話。A. 故選A。
A.打手勢;B.承認(rèn);C.談?wù)?D. 故選A。
50.A 根據(jù)“As we sat in the deaf student advisr's ffice, n ne 50 but I understd.”,尤其是句中的but可知,設(shè)空處前后是轉(zhuǎn)折關(guān)系,結(jié)合選項(xiàng)可知,這里想要表達(dá)的是雖然沒有人翻譯,但作者理解聾生顧問的話。A.翻譯;B.重復(fù);C.插嘴;D.發(fā)生。故選A。
51.C 根據(jù)上文的“Califrnia State University, Nrthridge, where I wuld study”可推知,作者是去學(xué)習(xí)的,所以這里指要接受的教育。A.許可;B.規(guī)則;C.教育;D.建議。故選C。
52.B 根據(jù)下文的“Nw I culd help.” A.
A.出發(fā);B.解決;C.伸出手;D. 故選C。
55.C 根據(jù)空前的“Unlike the days in her living rm with a ntepad”可知,以前作者不理解Cheryl的手語,所以用記事本和她交流,那天晚上和以前不一樣,故推知,那天晚上作者理解了Cheryl的手語。A.
56.travel(l)ing 考查現(xiàn)在分詞。 分析句子可知,此處是狀語從句的省略形式,還原后為“While I was travel(l)ing in Sweden”,所以用現(xiàn)在分詞形式,故填travel(l)ing。
分析句子可知,設(shè)空處位于which引導(dǎo)的非限制性定語從句中,從句中含有“make+賓語+賓補(bǔ)”結(jié)構(gòu),此處賓語為me,所以需要使用-ed結(jié)尾的形容詞作賓補(bǔ),故填embarrassed。
結(jié)合句意判斷,空處應(yīng)使用as引導(dǎo)定語從句,as意為“正如”,先行詞為整個主句的內(nèi)容,故填A(yù)s。
分析句子結(jié)構(gòu)可知,whether引導(dǎo)賓語從句,結(jié)合句意可知在賓語從句中,真正的主語為不定式短語t d smething...,所以此處應(yīng)該使用it作形式主語,故填it。

One pssible versin:
Bdy Language
Gd mrning, everyne! I'm glad t have the chance t share my view n “Bdy Language”. Bdy language is f great imprtance when it cmes t cmmunicating with thers. On varius ccasins, it cnveys mre than the wrds we speak. Accrdingly, prper bdy language assists us in leaving a gd impressin n thers.
As fr me, I prefer t smile when cmmunicating with smene. A smile can narrw the distance between us. It ges withut saying that it is much easier fr us t make appraches t peple with a smile. Besides, a smile makes ur cmmunicatin jyful.
Bdy language is significant in cmmunicatin, but we shuld use it in a prper way.
That's all. Thanks fr listening.
