1、定義：表示過去某一時(shí)刻或某一時(shí)間段內(nèi)正在進(jìn)行或發(fā)生的動(dòng)作。2、結(jié)構(gòu)：主語(yǔ)+was/ were +動(dòng)詞ing形式 （注：當(dāng)主語(yǔ)是第一人稱單數(shù)或第三人稱單數(shù)用was，其余人稱用were）
（以下示例以wrk為例子）
【拓展知識(shí)】：過去進(jìn)行時(shí)與頻度副詞連用（always，ften，usually等），表示喜愛、討厭、埋怨等感情色彩。e.g： My mum was always frgetting things. （表示埋怨） They was always helping children. （表示贊揚(yáng)）
3、易混淆點(diǎn)辨析：when和while
1、when的用法：when意為＂當(dāng)……的時(shí)候＂，可表示時(shí)間點(diǎn)或時(shí)間段，主句用過去進(jìn)行時(shí)，從句用一般過去時(shí)。從句中的謂語(yǔ)動(dòng)詞可以是延續(xù)性動(dòng)詞，也可以是短暫性動(dòng)詞。e.g： I was reading a bk when she came int my rm. 她走進(jìn)我房間時(shí)，我正在看書。
2、while的用法：while意為＂當(dāng)……的時(shí)候＂，只表示時(shí)間段，從句謂語(yǔ)動(dòng)詞必須用延續(xù)性動(dòng)詞。① 表示過去某個(gè)動(dòng)作發(fā)生時(shí),另一個(gè)動(dòng)作正在進(jìn)行： 主句用一般過去時(shí)，從句用過去進(jìn)行時(shí)。e.g： While Jim was mending his bike, Lin Ta came t see him. 吉姆正在修他的自行車時(shí)，林濤來看他了。② 表示過去某兩個(gè)延續(xù)性動(dòng)作同時(shí)進(jìn)行： 主句用過去進(jìn)行時(shí)，從句用過去進(jìn)行時(shí)。e.g：While he was waiting fr the bus, he was reading a newspaper. 他邊等車邊看報(bào)紙。（兩個(gè)動(dòng)作都是延續(xù)性的）

4、過去進(jìn)行時(shí)與一般過去時(shí)
過去進(jìn)行時(shí)：表示過去某一時(shí)刻或某一時(shí)間段內(nèi)正在進(jìn)行或發(fā)生的動(dòng)作，強(qiáng)調(diào)動(dòng)作正在進(jìn)行。一般過去時(shí)：表示過去發(fā)生的動(dòng)作或存在的狀態(tài)，多指動(dòng)作已經(jīng)完成。e.g： I was watching TV this time yesterday.（強(qiáng)調(diào)過去這個(gè)時(shí)間正在看電視） I watched TV yesterday.（強(qiáng)調(diào)昨天看電視，已經(jīng)看完。）
5、不能用進(jìn)行時(shí)的情況
1、表心理狀態(tài)、情感的動(dòng)詞：lve，hate，like，care，prefer，knw等2、表示存在、狀態(tài)的動(dòng)詞：appear，exist，remain，stand等。3、表示感覺的動(dòng)詞：see，hear，feel，smell，sund，taste等。4、表示人的期待、允諾、拒絕、結(jié)束的詞：accept，allw，admit，decide，refuse，prmise等。
