The?Belt and Rad Initiative?(BRI), als knwn as the?New Silk Rad, is a plan by the gvernment f the?Peple's Republic f China?t build?infrastructure?fr transprtatin, frm China t ther cuntries in Asia, Eurpe, and Africa. The prject was annunced in 2013. The "Belt" means the rads and railway tracks?n land. The "Rad" means?sea?rutes.

Science, technlgy and innvatin（創(chuàng)新）are the cre driving frces fr the Belt and Rad Initiative (BRI)（“一帶一路”倡議）develpment.
Fr the past six mnths, Nature has been travelling t cuntries, frm Beijing t Islamabad, Clmb t Nairbi, seeing hw China is changing the wrld f science. China’s universities are prviding scientific help fr these cuntries. The Chinese Academy f Sciences (CAS)（ 中國科學(xué)院） has invested mre than 1.8 billin yuan(almst US $268 millin) in science and technlgy prjects as part f the BRI.
In Sri Lanka, China is c-funding a centre n safe drinking water fr the cuntry’s rural ppulatin. In Pakistan, it is c-spnsring（聯(lián)合發(fā)起） a range f research centers frm rice agriculture t artificial intelligence and railway engineering. In the heart f the Eurpean Unin, a Chinese–Belgian science park prvides hmes fr cmpanies which try t expand trade in medical devices, slar pwer and ther technlgies. In ttal, the scientific side f the BRI invlves tens f thusands f researchers and students, and hundreds f universities.
