Air pllutin was always Eleanr’s cncern. Meanwhile, spending a lt f time with her asthmatic (患哮喘病的) mum, Eleanr especially fcused n hw pllutin affects a persn’s health and the spread f diseases. “We have an air filter at hme because my mum has mild asthma. After waking up yu may feel frustrated that yu cannt recall the dreams yu had last night. Artificial Intelligence (AI) may be able t help.
Previusly, there have been AI mdels that can turn texts int images. They d this by learning frm a large amunt f data frm bth texts and images. This time, researchers frm Osaka University in Japan have trained an AI system called Stable Diffusin t recreate images directly based n peple's brain scans, Science magazine reprted.
The researchers used an nline data set prvided by the University f Minnesta, which cnsisted f brain scans frm fur participants as they each viewed a set f 10, 000 phts. The scans were recrded by functinal magnetic resnance imaging (fMRI). The AI then learned abut the participants' brain activities by analyzing changes in bld flw shwn by the fMRI data—when a part f the brain is activated, mre bld will flw t it. It then matched the brain activity with the phts. Thrugh this methd, the AI learned hw human brains wuld react when seeing different phts. Finally, the researchers tested the AI n additinal brain scans frm the same participants when they viewed phts f bjects.
If the persn lked at an airplane, fr example, the AI wuld use the brain scan data t create an image f a very blurry (模糊的) airplane. Then, it wuld turn n the previus “text-t-image” mdel and imprve the quality f the image by feeding itself the keywrd “airplane”. The final images were “cnvincing” t abut 80 percent accuracy, accrding t the researchers.
The new study created a nvel apprach that cmbines texts and images t “decde the brain”. Accrding t Ariel Gldstein frm Princetn University, in the future, the technlgy can be used t recrd imagined thughts and dreams r allw peple t understand hw differently ther animals perceive (感知) reality.
32 What is Stable Diffusin meant t d?
A. Scan peple's brains.B. Turn texts int images.
C. Use brain scans t rebuild images.D. Recrd relevant experimental data.
33. Hw did the AI learn abut the participants' brain activities?
A. By analyzing changes in bld flw.B. By asking the participants questins.
C. By cmparing different brain scans.D. By referring t previus AI mdels.
34. What can we learn frm the text?
A. Dreams can hardly be frgtten by us.B. Texts and images help decde the brain.
C. Peple's brains are affected by fMRI.D. The AI creates clear images f bjects at first.
35. What des Ariel Gldstein say abut the technlgy?
A. It has been adpted in many cuntries.B. Its develpment is far frm satisfactry.
C. It is lacking in cnvincing evidence.D. Its applicatin has a great prspect.
