Hangzhou is now in the spotlight as the main host of the 19th Asian Games. Tourists from various places have gathered to this heavenly city to enjoy its slow life tempo and beautiful natural surroundings. Here are some highlights of the city you can't miss.
West Lake
The West Lake is definitely a place people can never miss when visiting Hangzhou. The lake itself covers 6 sq km, and includes some of Hangzhou's most famous scenic places.
There are "10 scenes of West Lake" and "10 new scenes", but it is not necessary to make a checklist and walk back and forth to look for these scenic spots. Just walk casually along the Nanshan and Beishan roads and the causeways, take a ferry on the boat to the islands on the lake, or simply sit in a lakeside teahouse and enjoy the picturesque views and the longjing (dragon well) tea.
?Lingyin Temple
Lingyin, or the Temple of the Soul's Retreat, has historically been the most renowned destination
The temple has undergone several restorations, the latest of which was in the 1970s at the urging of Premier Zhou Enlai. Lingyin Temple is now considered one of the largest Buddhist complexes in the country.
Leifeng Pagoda
On the south of the West Lake, Leifeng Pagoda is considered the top scenic structure around West Lake due to its stunning silhouette in the glow of evening.
For almost a thousand years the pagoda withstood fires and wars, but finally collapsed in 1924, due to the removal of bricks as souvenirs by locals. Rebuilt on historic ruins, the pagoda was restored in 2000 in the style of the Southern Dynasty (AD 420-589) and opened to the public in 2002. The 71.7m-tall pagoda is eight-sided with five stories.
The Xixi wetland park
Xixi, located less than five kilometers from West Lake in the west of Hangzhou, is China's first national wetland park. The area covers about 10 square kilometers and it has been around for more than 1,500 years, although it was only recently revived to offer residents and visitors a green respite from the concrete of the city.
21. Where can you enjoy eat while admiring the picturesque scenery?
A. In the Xixi wetland park. B. In Leifeng Pagoda.
C. In Lingyin Temple. D. In the West Lake.
22. If you have faith in Buddha, which spot is most appealing to you?
A. West Lake B. Lingyin Temple C. Leifeng Pagoda D. The Xixi wetland park
23. In which column do you most probably read the text?

The 2023 Tibetan New Year falls on Feb 21, almost a month after the Spring Festival. The celebration usually starts on the first day of the first month of the Tibetan calendar and ends after 15 days. Just like the Spring Festival, the Tibetan New Year marks the perfect opportunity for Tibetans to reunite with their relatives and friends.
While a sweet smell coming from the pot, Tsewang, 74, stirred the soup ladle from time to time at her Singpori home. She was cooking “gutu”, a kind of soup made of flour and a traditional dish for the night of the 29th of the 12th month in the Tibetan calendar.
“Gu” in Tibetan means nine, which is a lucky number. “Tu” means “pasta.” Nine different fillings like wool, charcoal and chili are placed inside the dough drops, and each of these fillings has a meaning.
“It is the Tibetan New Year Eve tomorrow. The family and relatives will be gathered together and welcoming a warm new year at the new home,” Tsewang said on Sunday.
For 46-year-old Li Xijun, from northwest China's Gansu Province, celebrating Tibetan New Year with his wife Drolma Tsering has become a part of his life after living in Tibet for 26 years.
“We celebrate both Spring Festival and Tibetan New Year at home,” he said. Li started his commercial trade business in Tibet after retiring from the army in 1997. He met his wife in 2000, and has since settled in the border county of Yadong to take care of Drolma Tsering’s parents and younger sister.
It is the third Tibetan New Year for Yuan Yubing from Shanghai. Yuan came to Tibet to learn Thangka painting in 2017 and married Losang Samkhar, her studio teacher, the following year.
“I was more of a spectator when I first celebrated the festival,” Yuan said. But after years of living here, Yuan has already known all kinds of customs of the Tibetan New Year.
Yuan and her mother-in-law have cleaned up the windows at home, and all the new year’s goods are ready. She has even replaced her mother-in-law to cook for the family for new year’s eve. “Coming to Tibet makes me feel that my heart has found a home,” she said.
24. The 2023 Tibetan New Year falls on ____.
A. Sunday. B. Monday. C. Tuesday. D. Wednesday.
25. Tibetan New Year and Spring Festival share the same features except that ____.
A. it is a great opportunity for reunion
B. people will enjoy traditional dishes like “gutu”
C. people will gather and welcome the arrival of New Year
D. people will prepare new year’s goods ahead of time
26. In the last but one paragraph,by saying “I was more of a spectator”, Yuan wants to express that ____.
A. she was not interested in Tibetan New Year at all
B. she celebrated Spring Festival only all the time
C. she had no sense of belonging there at that time
D. she had no idea about the Tibetan New Year customs then
27. About Li Xijun and Yuan Yubin, which of the statements is true?
A. They both came from Gansu Province.
B. They both came to Tibet to learn Thangka painting.
C. They both might have married a local in Tibet.
D. They both have settled down in Yadong.

Low pay, uncertain jobs and debt mean young people are being hard hit by the UK's financial crisis. In January this year a major survey showed that 47% of under-24s were viewed as “financially uncertain”— unable or only just able to make ends meet.
The survey was carried out last year before the reality of 2022’s cost of living crisis had started to unfold. We wanted to find out what young people’s money worries are and how to deal with them. A recent survey found 3 in 10 young people worry about not having enough money over a typical month. Only 51% of 16- and 17-year-olds in the UK feel confident about dealing with money.
And an increasing number of young people are turning to the Internet for tips. “There was a lack of support in my community and secondary school”, says Zoya. Unluckily, Zoya isn’t alone and millions of young people are struggling to access the information they need, both within the structures of school and at home with family.
Although some factors in the cost of living crisis are out of our hands, there are steps everyone can take. Here are our top tips. Set a budget(預算). Once you have a clear idea of the money that you use, you know how much money you have left to set apart and spend in other areas of your life. Check your basket. Thinking ahead about your meals and writing down a shopping list can give you a better chance of sticking to your budget. Get a budgeting partner. Set aside 10 minutes each week to check in with a friend or a family member, track your spending and share your money saving methods. Learn good habits. Some financial respected experts can bring free courses to help people build financial security to help young people.
28. What can be inferred from paragraph 1?
A. All British young people can’t find well-paid job.
B. British young people get stuck in economic difficulties.
C. Nearly half of under-24s in the UK can’t find jobs.
D. 47% of British people are able to make ends meet.
29. What’s the purpose of the survey?
A. To seek ways to help the young with financial problems based on their findings.
B. To get more information about young people who are stuck in financial problems.
C. To find out the reasons that make young people worried about their money.
D. To deal with the financial problems that cause young people to get stuck.
30. Where do more and more young people usually seek for help?
A. From the community. B. From the school.
C. From the Internet. D. From the family.
31. Who probably would be the target reader?
A. British young people. B. People under-24s.
C. Millions of young people D. Anyone in financial difficulties.

Sending a thumbs-up (豎起拇指) can be seen as passive aggressive, according to Gen Z (those born between 1995 and 2009) who say they feel attacked whenever it is used. Whether the chat is informal, between friends or at work the symbol appears to have a very different, ‘rude’ meaning for the younger generation.
A 24-year-old on Reddit summed up the Gen Z argument, saying it is best ‘never used in any situation’ as it is ‘hurtful’. “No one of my age in the office does it, but the Gen X (those born between 1966 and 1980) people always do it. Take me a bit to adjust and get it out of my head that it means they're mad at me,” he added. Other young people agreed it is bad form, especially at work where it can make the team appear unfriendly and not easygoing.
“My last workplace had a WhatsApp chat for our team to send information to each other on, and most of the people on there just replied with a thumbs up. I don't know why but it seemed a little bit hostile to me,” one woman said. One Reddit user also said the thumbs up actually means that “I’ve read your message and have nothing to add and I hope and pray … all the people in this group chat have nothing to say on it too.”
Older workers appear confused by the reaction, saying they use the thumbs up in work-related chats to show “I agree” or “I understood and will follow.”
Part of the issue is that young people tend to use the thumbs-up in jokes. Barry Kennedy, 24, he said he only used it to communicate with older people like his parents or older colleagues. A survey of 2,000 people conducted by Perspectus Global showed that a majority of people between the ages of 16 and 29 believe that you are “officially old” if you use thumbs-up or heart emoji.
32. Which of the following point is not the Gen Z’s understanding of the emoji thumbs-up?
A. Being rude. B. Being agreeable.
C. Being hurtful. D. Being unfriendly.
33. What does the underlined word “hostile” mean in paragraph 2?
A. Unfriendly and aggressive. B. Tough and difficult.
C. Unwanted and unacceptable. D. Strange and unusual.
34. Why can’t older workers understand the young’s reaction to the thumbs-up emoji?
A. Because of their poor communication skill.
B. Because of their being old with worse memory.
C. Because of their less communicating with the young.
D. Because of their different understanding of the emoji.
35. Which is the most suitable title for the text?
A. The Thumbs-up Emoji: Rejected by the younger generation.
B. The Thumbs-up Emoji: Highly Welcomed by ‘Old People’.
C. The Thumbs-up Emoji: A Sign of Generation Gap.
D. The Thumbs-up Emoji: A Sign of Being Aggressive.
第二節(jié) 七選五(共5小題;每小題2.5分,滿12.5分)
根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容,從短文后的選項中選出能填入空白處的最佳選項,選項中有兩項為多余選項。
Dreams won't cost you anything. They are going to be with you forever, and require no effort
on your part. Goals, however, require action. 36 Achieving a goal will cost you time, effort, money, and sacrifice. Research has found that one of the best ways to guarantee goals will be achieved is by writing them down. Here are four tips on how to write down goals.
Define your goals.
37 Your current situation will determine your next step. Then move on to write about where you would like to be in the future. What is your ultimate aim?
Include, in the overall plan, the short-term goals that you will need to achieve during the journey, and, if possible, include a timetable.
38
Creating a timetable means you will have to think of the big picture. Now is your opportunity to allow yourself the luxury of dreaming. Turn that dream into a goal by giving it substance, and planning the route.
Your timetable for success will gradually come together, and you can decide where you want to be in, say,one year, five years,or ten years. Don’t fudge(含糊其詞)it,be specific, and be ambitious.
Now, look at the detail.
Now that you have turned your dream into a goal, and decided on your path, turn to the short-term goals. Consider the short-term objectives you will need to achieve as you progress towards your ultimate goal. 39
Always be positive.
Make your plan positive. You will not be inspired if you use negative language. 40 List what you are going to do in positive tones that will encourage you and spur you on.
Having a plan brimful of confidence and heartening language will encourage you to achieve your ultimate goal.
A. In this, they have a cost.
B. Keep the big picture in mind.
C. Begin by deciding where you are at present.
D. Dreams are long-term and often stay as dreams.
E. Don't say what you are not going to do anymore.
F. So you have a clear idea of the steps you will need to take.
C With this in mind, now it is the time to create your grand plan.

閱讀下面短文,根據(jù)所給情節(jié)進行續(xù)寫,使之構(gòu)成一個完整的故事。
The park bench was deserted as I sat down to read beneath the long branches of an old willow tree. I was abandoned. Endless quarrels with my family had left me nowhere to go but this desolate corner of the park. As I sat on the bench, recent events began to flash through my mind. Days seemed like months to me recently. No cozy home to stay. No happy memories with family. No considerate family members to talk to. Even the book I was reading was no fun. Not content with life, I had a good reason to frown, for the world was intended to drag me down.
And if that weren't enough to ruin my day, a young boy out of breath approached me, all tired from play. He stood right in front of me with his head tilted down and said with great excitement, “Look what I found!” In his hand was a flower. What a pitiful sight, its petals were all worn-not enough rain, or too little light. He must have picked the flower from somewhere shady and sunless, just like where I was staying these days. I couldn't help being self-pitying. Wanting him to take his dead flower away and go off to play, I faked a small smile and then looked away. “Why couldn't everyone just leave me be!” I thought to myself, upset and gloomy.
But instead of leaving, he sat next to my side and placed the flower to his nose and declared loudly with certainty, “It sure smells pretty and it must be beautiful, too. That's why I picked it; here, it's for you. ” The weed before me was dying or dead, not vibrant of colors, orange, yellow or red. But I knew I must take it, or he might never leave. So I reached for the flower, and replied, “Just what I need." Again, instead of placing the flower in my hand, he held it mid-air without reason or plan. Curiosity drove me to look into his eyes. Blue as the sea, there is no color or light in his beautiful eyes.

寫作一參考【答案】
This quotation from Winston Churchill tells us that we shouldn't get discouraged right after failures. Rather, we should keep trying with enthusiasm. Success consists in the ability to continue efforts through failures.
At the age of twelve, I got a nice bike as a birthday gift. So excited was I that I couldn't wait to try my hand at riding it. However, it was harder than expected. The bike seemed too heavy and difficult to control. Worse still, I took many falls off the bike. I was about to give up when my father came and encouraged me to keep going. With more practice, I did better and better. Looking back, I feel I wouldn't be able to ride a bike had I lost heart.
Actually, we can't succeed in everything we try. What's important is that we should stick to our dreams.

寫作二參考【答案】
It was then that I noticed for the very first time that the boy could not see: he was blind. I heard my voice trembling. Tears shone like the sun as I thanked him for picking the very best flower. “You're welcome,” he smiled, and then ran off to play, not realizing the impact he'd had on my day. I sat there and wondered how he managed to see a self-pitying woman beneath an old willow tree. How did he know my self-indulged plight(困境)?Perhaps he’d been blessed with true sight from his heart by God.
For all of those times I myself had been blind towards the world around me. Through the eyes of a blind boy, at last I could see, the problem was not with the world; the problem was me. I decided and promised to see the beauty, and appreciate every second of my life. Then I held that withered flower up to my nose and breathed in the fragrance of a beautiful rose, smiling like that young boy. Another flower in his hand was about to change the life of an unsuspecting old man.

【詳解】1.詞匯積累
泄氣:discouraged
熱情:enthusiasm
堅持:insist on/ stick to
2.句式拓展
【點睛】
【高分句型1】So excited was I that I couldn't wait to try my hand at riding it.. (運用了so…that的半倒裝句)

【高分句型3】Looking back, I feel I wouldn't be able to ride a bike had I lost heart.
① 從第一段首句“It was then that I noticed for the very first time that the boy could not see:he was blind”的提示,我們可以推斷出,“我”那時才意識到小男孩此時的心里其實是一個盲人,這必定讓“我”深感驚訝與感動,“我”此時的心里會想,小男孩明明雙目失明,他是怎么注意到“我”坐在這里郁郁寡歡的呢?他一定是上帝送給“我”的禮物吧!因此,續(xù)寫的第一段應該重點描寫“我”驚訝與感動的情緒。
②根據(jù)第二段首句“For all of those times I myself had been blind towards the world around me”的提示,我們可以推斷出,小男孩善意的舉動使“我”意識到,“我”這個階段以來煩悶抑郁的情緒完全是“我”作繭自縛,是不懂得去發(fā)現(xiàn)生活中美好的一面造成的。
動詞:frown, drag one’s feet, mute, darken
形容詞:deserted, pitiful, self-pitying, upset, lonely, alone, despairing

W: Not much. I saw Jordan's best friend at the cinema yesterday and he sat beside me. Oh, what's his name...the tall guy?

(Text 8)
W: Welcome to Way of Life. Our guest is Daniel, who says he's learning to live with less. So what exactly is living with less, Danial?

W: What did you do?
M: Part of living with less is also learning to be generous. So I gave away my tablet to little Jim. He is a left-behind child and he needs a tablet for his online course.
W: What else are you learning?
M: Uh, I've stopped using my car. The money spent on petrol, well, I give that to charity.
W: Good point.
M: I've given £200 to charity that does research into serious diseases. It's not a lot, but it's the beginning of a process.
(Text 9)
M: Emma, you moved out of the city to à small village in Wales. So you ever regret moving here?
W: Not for a minute. It' s so peaceful here, and just look at the view I've got from this house window across the fields up to the mountains That's the best part of living here.
M: What made you move here?
W: My husband had been ill but fully recovered after we came here. He needed a rest cure after the operation, so we found a quiet place here.
M: Can you speak Welsh?
W: No. When we first came here, I went to evening classes. But it sounded very difficult when I listened to the villagers talking in daily life. I couldn’t seem to learn it, so I gave it up.
M: Yeah, it is hard. Emma, I see you keep two cows..
W: Yes. They give me all the milk I need and I've recently started making cheese.
M: Oh, looking after the animals and your apple trees-all this must be a full-time job.
W: Right. The apples have to be picked. That's our main task for next week.
