I Owe You Thanks
Mrs. Crawley, a large woman, often worked into night at a hotel beauty-shop. She was walking alone with a large heavy back-pack at about eleven o’clock one night when a boy named Jack ran up behind her and tried to snatch (搶奪) her pack.
The pack’s strap (帶子) broke. The boy’s weight and the weight of the pack combined cased him to lose his balance, so Jack fell on his back on the sidewalk. Mrs. Crawley simply turned around and picked the boy up by his shirt front.
The woman did not release Jack. “I’m very sorry, lady, I’m sorry,” he whispered in an embarrassed (尷尬的) voice.
Mrs. Crawley said, looking at his face, “Now I got a great mind to wash your face. It’s dirty! Did you have nobody home to tell you to wash your face?”
“No, Ma’am,” said Jack.
“Then it will get washed this evening,” said Mrs. Crawley starting up the street dragging Jack behind her. “You ought to be my son. I would teach you right from wrong. Least I can do right now is to wash your face. Are you hungry?”
“Yes, Ma’am,” said the being dragged boy.
When getting to her door, Mrs. Crawley dragge Jack inside.
“You go to that sink and wash your face, and I’m going to fix us something to eat. You’re hungry — or been hungry — to try to snatch my pack.” said the woman, turning Jack loose. He went to the sink.
“I wanted a pair of blue suede shoes,” said Jack.
“Well, you didn’t have to snatch my pack to get your suede shoes,” said Mrs. Crawley. “You could have asked me.”
“Ma’am?”
The water dripping from his face, Jack looked at her. There was a long pause. A very long pause.
Then supper was ready, with a bite of cakes cooked for each. Mrs. Crawley set the table.

【答案】She did not ask Jack anything that would embarrass him as they ate. It seemed that silence surrounded the room. Lowering his head with shame, Jack didn’t what to say but just tried to finish his meal as quickly as he could. After a long pause, Mrs. Crawley stopped eating, looking straight into his eyes and asking, “Could you please tell me why that pair of blue suede shoes is important to you?”. “All the boys I know have this pair of shoes. I want one.”, he answered in a low voice with face flushing.
“Shoes got in that way will make you uncomfortable,” continued Ms. Crawley, ready to get her rest. “Remember get what you want through your hard work and you’ll feel proud. But getting what you want by doing something wrong will bring shame to your life.”,Ms. Crawley patted his back gently. What made Jack amazed was that Ms. Crawley didn’t blame and punish him. She taught him an unforgettable lesson. Tears of gratitude welled up in his eyes. He had made up his mind to be righteous man since then.

It took place in a teacher’s family. One day, Ben was playing basketball in the living room after school when he accidentally threw the ball at a vase sitting on the shelf. The vase dropped to the floor and a large piece broke off. What made Ben more upset was that the vase was not a common decoration but an antique, which was handed down through generations from the 18th century. It was also his mother’s favourite possession. To cover his terrible action, the terrified boy glued the pieces together hastily and put the vase back to its place.
As the mother herself dusted the vase every day, she naturally noticed the cracks(裂紋)that evening. To her surprise, the repair work was actually very good. At dinner time, she asked her boy if he had broken the vase. Fearing punishment, the suddenly inspired boy said that a neighbour’s cat jumped in from the window and he couldn’t drive it away no matter how hard he tried. It raced around the living room and finally her son was lying, for all the windows were closed before she left for work each morning and opened after she returned. However, in the face of her son’s nervous eyes and the suspicious looks of the other family members, Ben’s mother remained calm. She realised she shouldn’t just simply blame and punish her son for lying. She came up with another idea.
Before going to bed, the boy found a note from his mother in his room, asking him to go to the study at once. The boy thought he would now be punished but, as he had already lied, he was determined to deny everything to the end, no matter how angry his mum became.
In the study, calmly bathed in the light, his mother’s face showed no sign of anger. On seeing her son push open the door and cautiously enter, she took a box of chocolates out of a drawer and gave him one.
The mother said, ”This chocolate is a reward for your imagination: a window-opening cat!“

【答案】One possible version:
The mother said, ”This chocolate is a reward for your imagination: a window-opening cat! “Hearing her sincere appreciation, Ben flushed, lowered his head and muttered a thank you. Surprisingly, the mother took out another chocolate and pressed it into his hand. ”This one is for the delicate repair work you did to the broken vase. “She also added that she was moved by how much the boy cherished the family possession. At these hearty remarks, Ben felt a flow of shame through his veins, and had to duck his head even lower. The mother then calmly encouraged Ben to reward himself with more chocolates for other merits he had displayed in this event. He did as he was told to, confessing that he was calm when facing the accident.
Now with some chocolates in his hand, the boy’s bad attitude disappeared. His palm and forehead sweating, nervousness welled up inside him. After what seemed a long time, he looked up at his mother, admitted that it was not the cat but he that had broken the vase accidentally and asked for punishment. ”I’m sorry I lied to you, Mum. Please take back the chocolates.“ Feeling so ashamed, Ben couldn’t hold back his tears. He opened his palm wide, ready to return the chocolates. To his surprise, however, his mother placed the whole box of chocolates in his hand, smiling. ”Honesty deserves the best reward, my dear."

“Go back, Mom! Go back!” shouted my six-year-old daughter, June. I quickly turned around to cast my doubtful eyes on the back seat, worried I had forgotten her younger sister. I was relieved to see the girls safe and sit in their car seats, but June’s expression was one of pure anxiety. “Mom, we have to go back,” she insisted. “Someone needs our help!”
As I looked back from the driver’s seat, I spotted a young man in rags playing his guitar. His skinny, poor-looking dog rested next to his feet near an old, worn cardboard sign that read, “Homeless, please help.”
We’d come across homeless people before and had talked about their needs and struggles. I should seize the chance to set a good example for my daughters to give a helping hand. So I searched for some cash, only to find I had nothing but credit cards. “I’m sorry, sweetheart, but I don’t have any cash,” I said. “I have some, Mom!” June replied. She opened her little pink purse and pulled out a five-dollar bill. “Oh, good. I’ll pay you back when we get home,” I responded with a sigh of relief. “No. Mom.” she insisted, “I want to help him. I don’t want you to pay me back. I want to give him my money.”
As we drove down the crowded rows of the parking lot, I reassured her that we would get to him.
When we got there. I called out, “Excuse me, sir!” He cautiously walked toward our car and answered, “Yes, ma’am?” “Here you go, sir.” June stretched out her entire body to hand him her five-dollar bill through the window and explained, “I want you to have this.” He smiled and hesitatingly asked, “This was your money?” “Yes! I want you to have it,” she proudly answered. “Thank you,” he said, touched by her thoughtfulness.
We exchanged a smile, and as we drove away, my younger daughter Scarlett began to cry. I hadn’t noticed that she had emptied her purse and was holding two quarters in her tiny hands.

I’m looking for you.” said Scarlett.

So I helped her.” he said. Scarlett said , “You’re so kind. Here is the money that I want to give you.” The man accepted it and said with appreciation, “Thank you. It was a very exciting day for my sister and me. As soon as our dad got home, he was going to give us a special gift. It wasn’t our birthday or anything; our dad had just felt like getting us something special.
The car pulled up, and Dad got out carrying a large bag. He walked up to the door and handed us the bag. Mindy and I looked into the bag together and pulled out the most beautiful red purses we’d ever seen, one for Mindy and one for me.
“I love it!” I said, as I gave my dad a big kiss. Mindy did the same. Mindy always copied me. We had our new purses, but they were empty. Mindy wanted to put something in them — something exciting. So we looked around the house to see what we could find. We couldn’t find much until we walked into our mom and dad’s bedroom. I looked inside one of Dad’s dresser drawers and found what looked like a lot of money.
“Mindy, look what I found!” She came running,“What, what is it?” I pointed inside the drawer. “It’s money. We can stick all this money inside our new red purses.” Mindy looked confused. “That’s mom and dad’s money. We can’t take that.”
I started to put the money into my purse, and Mindy copied me. Our purses were as stuffed as could be. We ran out of our parents’ room and headed for ours. “Let’s hide our purses in our dresser drawer,” I said. As soon as we did this, I heard a loud yell (喊叫). “Honey, our money is missing,” my mother shouted. My dad was frantic (發(fā)狂的), and I could hear him pacing downstairs. “I know I put the money in our drawer. Where could it be?”
I heard footsteps coming up the stairs toward our room. Soon, both our parents were standing in front of us.

My little brother is a five-year-old boy named Tex. When it comes to being funny and lovable, he is the best. But when it comes to keeping secrets, he is the worst!
It just so happened that my parents’ wedding anniversary was near Valentine’s Day, and they planned to celebrate by going away for a couple of days. But at the last minute, my dad came home from work with bad news.
“I’m afraid our trip will have to wait. The shop assistant has the flu, so there will be no one to manage the grocery store if we go.”
“It’s OK,” my mom said, biting her lip. “We’ll have lots more anniversaries to celebrate.”
That was when I came up with the idea to surprise my parents with an extra-special cake. Luckily, the grandmother of my good friend Ollie, a very generous person who lives right next door, was an amazing baker with a kitchen full of most of the stuff you need to make a yummy valentine-anniversary cake.
I called Ollie if she and her grandmother could help me make a valentine-anniversary cake. I wanted to surprise Mom and Dad after dinner tonight. As usual, Ollie was happy to help me. Then, I asked my mother if I could go to Ollie’s and promised I would be back soon. Once I had my mom’s permission, I looked for perfect ingredients and a perfect heart-shaped pan just to make my cake more interesting and tasty. As I packed all the things I needed, I noticed Tex was glued to TV, which I thought was a perfect opportunity to leave secretly.

Hunger
When I was a young boy, my mother would place spoonfuls of vegetables onto my plate whether I wanted them or not and the rule in our family was that we always had to clean our plates. However, I rarely saw my mother eat the vegetables herself. She always served us first. She seemed never hungry.
She worked for a rich lady in town, and I always assumed that the reason why she didn’t have our tasteless meals was that she had eaten meats and sweets in the rich lady’s kitchen. Our meals were boring, and there was never enough since there were ten of us — my parents plus eight children.
One afternoon my older sisters were sick, so they couldn’t take care of me. Therefore, my mother had no choice but to bring me with her. It was a long winter day and as my father hadn’t had much work, we had even less food than usual. So I was very excited to go to the rich woman’s house.
My mother placed me in a corner while she rolled out pie crust (餅皮). Then she cooked some meat, and by the afternoon, the pleasant smell filled the kitchen and was making its way into my empty stomach. Then, a bell rang in the kitchen and my mother told me, “Don’t move” and then left.
I tried to do as told, but then I thought it wouldn’t matter if I ate just one blackberry. So I put a single blackberry into my mouth. What an explosion of flavor! The wonderful taste hitting my empty stomach was more than I could handle! Soon I was throwing blackberries into my mouth with two hands! It wasn’t until I was staring at the empty bowl that I noticed the empty, unbaked pie crust sitting on the table waiting for the berries. I looked around for more berries, but there was none. Suddenly, I heard footsteps approaching, so I quickly hid into the cupboard (碗柜).

【答案】Just at the moment, my mother entered the kitchen, following a well-dressed lady. My mother excitedly discussed today’s special food with the lady. She was about to show her the dough and the blackberries in the bowl, at this point, they noticed that all the blackberries in the bowl were gone, which shocked my mother. The lady asked angrily whether she had eaten the blackberry, with my mother lowering her head in silence. The lady said you are always doing a good job. But you let me down today. Then the lady left.
After the lady left, I crept(爬) out of the cupboard with tears streaming down my face. I said to my mother, “I’m sorry, mom, I stole the blackberry. You made the blackberry so delicious that I couldn’t stop eating them. After listening to what the lady said, I know that you have been working hard for our family. It was my fault, and I’m willing to apologize and explain everything to the lady.” Then we went together.

It was a pleasant sort of a Sunday as John walked in his uncle’s garden. His parents had moved to Delhi for work. “Your final examination is just a few months away.” Father had said, “We want you to stay with Uncle and Aunt, complete your exams and then join us in Delhi.” Uncle Tim was John’s father’s cousin. They had a Golden Retrieve called Oliver.
From the first day John realized that Oliver was unhappy. He was not given his meals on time, nor was he taken for a walk. Oliver was shouted at and treated badly all day. “Your uncle bought Oliver so that the dog could protect his house from thieves but actually neither he nor his wife loved him,” the gardener told John one day. John felt sad. At night he could hear Oliver whimpering (嗚咽) in the cold. “Why don’t you make a coat for your pet?” John asked. “I have much better things to do,” answered his aunt.
One day John went out for a walk with Oliver when the sky suddenly became cloudy. As rain started falling, people ran everywhere for protection. John ran to take shelter in a sweet shop. A few minutes later, he realized Oliver was missing. John was sad and searched the entire place with the help of the shop owner, but failed.
John’s uncle put in an advertisement in the paper. After all he had spent a lot of money buying Oliver and did not want to lose him.
It was a half-an-hour ride by bus. The house was a beautiful brick colored structure. The middle aged lady who greeted Oliver was a motherly sort of a woman. She and her husband had answered John’s uncle’s advertisement in the paper. Since John’s uncle was out on an official tour, John had been sent to check on the dog.
“He is asleep.” said the lady, “Come and have a look”. Oliver slept on a small bed covered with a warm quilt (被褥). A pot of milk stood in a corner of the room possibly for Oliver’s next feed. “I found him on the back seat of the car. He must have hidden himself there from the storm. I had opened the back door of the car to put in the vegetables, which I was going to buy. However, because of the heavy rain I changed my mind and decided to do the shopping the next day. The poor dear was shivering (顫抖) with cold, when I first noticed him after arriving home.” The lady told John.

【答案】John looked at the dog. Yes it was Oliver, his uncle’s dog. Seeing him sleeping with a warm quilt and a pot of milk waiting for him, John couldn’t believe it was Oliver. Oliver had an unhappy life in uncle’s home, where what greeted him was continuous shouts and being badly treated. At the thought of these, John was in a dilemma, he had no thought whether he should take Oliver home. Finally, he made a determination to leave Oliver in a home which was full of love and care instead of shouts and coldness.
John smiled as he shook his head, “I am sorry to have troubled you. Sir, Madam. But this is not our Oliver.” The woman and her husband was lost in doubts, without knowing what to do. Afraid of being debunked, John made up a story, “There is a scar on Oliver’s head, so it can’t be Oliver”. Hearing what John had said, the woman signed with a relief, saying that she would take care of Oliver until his owner took him home. John was extremely happy that Oliver happened to have a warm house to live in and a motherly woman to care about him, living a comfortable life which he deserved to have.

As a young boy, I was innocent. Every vacation I looked forward to two things-seeing my grandpa and hearing his wonderful stories. My grandpa was a very good storyteller. He had worked various jobs when he was young and wove ( 編 織)his adventures and misadventures into fantastic tales. These wonderful tales colored my childhood.
As I grew up, I had to admit that Grandpa's stories went on a little long, even a little boring and gradually lost their magic. However, not wanting to upset him, my brother and I would sometimes take turns sitting in the living room, listening to grandpa tell his stories.
When my grandpa was approaching 91, he suffered from serious memory-loss.It was kind of what doctors called dementia (癡呆),probably the earliest stage of Alzheimer's disease. Following the doctor's directions, we moved him into a Sunrise Assisted Living Community, where he could get a better care. After that, grandpa hardly came to our house.
One weekend before my grandpa's birthday, I came to visit him. Seeing grandpa sitting in his armchair, dull-looking, I was filled with mixed feelings. I wheeled grandpa to the sunshine in the courtyard, talking to him. He couldn't express himself clearly and spoke in short bursts, but I listened to him patiently and carefully just as I used to be a little boy.
It was then that I noticed a shadow box with some old and yellowish photos in it. I picked one up, in which my brother, several boys in our neighborhood, and I were playing basketball, wearing basketball jerseys (球衣), with grandpa cheering us on ten years before.

【答案】One possible version:
My mind flashed back to those beautiful memories. Back then, Grandpa was in good physical condition. After school, my friends and I would play basketball with him. He was happy like a child. Sometimes, he just sat there watching us, cheering and laughing. In my heart, not only was he my grandpa but also my best friend,a most important person in my life. With his company, I enjoyed a sweet childhood. How I wished we could go back to the past!
A bright idea for grandpa's birthday came to my mind. "Why not bring the old days back to grandpa?"I thought to myself. In the following days, I bought the same basketball jerseys and arranged a similar-looking basketball court. The big day finally came. All the family members put on a special memory-recalling basketball game. The "same players" on the court, running and laughing, reminded grandpa of something. He cheered and clapped, with a big smile. I was overjoyed to see the spark in his eyes.

The alarm sounded sharply. Seven-thirty. Too early for a Saturday! And much earlier for her birthday! Rosa thought about her birthdays in hometown, when her grandmother, Abuelita, would make a cake for her, humming (哼) old songs in the kitchen.
“Rosa! Hrry!”
“Yes, Mama,” Rosa called. She wanted to stay in bed, but ever since she had turned fourteen, Saturdays here meant helping Mama at hair salon (發(fā)廊). “Where is papa?” Rosa asked. “He left an hour ago. We must go, too,” said Mama.
Rosa and Mama hurried to the bus stop. Sharing the umbrella made them hit into each other. Mama laughed. Rosa didn’t think it was funny. “I don’t like here,” she said. “I miss everything about hometown, especially Abuelita!” “I miss her too,” Mama said. “But there is more work here. We are able to send money to Abuelita.” Rosa nodded. Still, it was hard.
As Rosa arrived, the salon was already full of people. “Hello,” said Morena, Rosa’s cousin.
Rosa took the towels from a basket and started to fold (疊) them. She took a deep breath of their clean fresh smell, and was reminded again of the flowers of Abuelita. “I kept thinking about Abuelita. I miss her so much, especially today!” Rosa said. “Me, too,” Morena smiled. “But that won’t get this work done.”
Rosa carried the towels to the sinks (水池). All the chairs were filled with waiting customers. Rosa hurried over. Mama was shampooing (給…用洗發(fā)水) an old lady with a towel across her face. “Here we are. Rosa has brought you another towel.” Mama gently lifted the lady’s head and placed the towel at the base of her neck. “Better?” The woman’s face was still covered, and she didn’t speak, but she waved her hand as if to say yes.
As Mama continued, the lady hummed an old song softly.

When the shampoo was finally done, Mama helped the woman slowly sit up. The moment the towel fell away, Rosa shrieked. It was Abuelita! Rosa fell on her grandmother, laughing and crying at the same time. “When? How...?” Rosa hugged her grandmother tightly. “Your hard work helped get me here, Rosa.” Abuelita was crying excitedly, too. “I have something for you.” (75 words)
Abuelita reached her hand into a basket and took out a homemade cake. “Happy Birthday, Rosa. We wanted to surprise you.” she said, her eyes sparkling with tears of happiness. That school year God blessed me with two trusted children—Tom and Mary. Whenever I went out for training, programs or personal matters, I left everything to them.
However, the peace was ruined when one day I lost one thousand pesos (比索) in my bag. I always kept my wallet near me. I only chose my trusted students to get near my things. I kept the door of my office closed every time I went for my classes. My spine trembled upon my seeing my money was no longer there. I scanned my wallet, my secret pocket and everything in my room. But all my attempts were in vain.
I was angry. That morning before my class ended, I appealed to everyone to help me catch the “thief”. At 4:00 in the afternoon that day, I reminded them about my warning of returning my money before investigation took place. Then suddenly, a boy called Larry said, “Miss, look at the paper on the floor!”
My heart beat wildly when I saw the crumpled paper which I thought useless. I replied to them immediately upon holding the paper. “Yes, here it is!” I showed it to them. They urged me to open the paper. I opened it and to my surprise, I saw the one thousand pesos! I felt relieved. Then, a letter appeared among the banknotes.
“Miss, I am sorry that I stole the money. I returned it. Do not tell my classmates that I returned the money and do not mention anything about it in class, because it hurts me. Thank you, Miss. But I can’t tell you why I stole your money.”
Oh my God! My brain flashed the handwriting of my trusted boy—the “thief”. I was sure this was Tom’s handwriting.

【答案】The next day, I called Tom to my office. The boy admitted that he was the thief and asked for my forgiveness. I asked him the reason. He said Mary’s mother was in hospital and Mary’s family didn’t have enough money to pay for the treatment. I said in earnest: “Tom, I’m quite touched by your golden heart, but taking money without permission is not a proper way to solve the problem.” Tom lowered his head in shame. “Come on! Let’s visit Mary’s mother and see what we can do for her.”
We went to the hospital and saw Mary’s mother. Mary’s mother was surprised to see us, but soon she collected herself and showed her great gratitude for us visiting her. Thinking of sensible Mary and kind-hearted Tom, I chose not to tell her the incident, comforted her and left the 1000 pesos and some more for her. On our way back, Tom hugged me tightly, tears in his eyes. Later Tom became a better person. Under proper guidance, a boy with a warm heart can shine more brightly.

Pamela Jones is a nurse, mom, and grandmother and she has over 25 years’ experience in the field of medicine. After she graduated from her medical school with her medical degree, she was devoted to numerous hospitals in Michigan and more. She is also a volunteer of a non-profit organization, which mainly helps some people suffering from different kinds of slight diseases and offers some medical care.
Last Tuesday, Pamela was driving on the way home after seeing a patient. She was traveling westbound on 1-276 around 8:30 pm. Then suddenly, she was hit by a car that switched lanes on the Pennsylvania Turnpike. Her car tuned, flipped over and crashed into an embankment. Her car was badly damaged. The causing-traffic-trouble car was damaged too, but it fled away. Thankfully, she survived. However, she could not remember much about what happened.
Saving lives is a daily thing for Nurse Pamela Jones. But, at this time, it was she who needed to be saved. Unfortunately, dozens of cars moved past her but no one took the time to stop and help her. “There must have been 150 cars that drove by,” Pamela recalled. She couldn’t move and her phone was out of reach, so she had to wait for help in her car.
Mike Lottier and his son Drew were driving on the way home, too. They had just returned from the city where Drew’s grandparents lived. It was Drew who first found her car. He noticed that glass debris was everywhere, the sunroof was destroyed, and the car was crashed out of shape. Seeing these, Drew shouted, “Dad, there is a car accident ahead.” Mike drove slowly toward the damaged car. Soon they arrived at the scene.

【答案】Immediately they pulled over and went to check the accident. They saw Pamela was stuck in the car. She was screaming and asking for help when Mike and Drew found her. Fifteen-year-old Drew stayed with Pamela to comfort and keep her calm while his dad was calling 911 for help. Drew said that he just couldn’t imagine if he was in that position and no one stopped for him. Mike said that it was a miracle that she survived the accident. Before the emergency service arrived, she was moved out of the car.
Tears were flowing down Pamela’s cheeks after she was saved. She said that Mike and his son were her angels on the earth, and that she was forever grateful to them. She couldn’t stop her tears from flowing out of joy. She was so touched and thankful that Mike and his son cared enough to stop to help. She said that she usually received “thank you” from the people she helped, but now it’s time for her to say “thank you” to those who helped her.

8-year-old Evan was standing by the sidewalk when he noticed Mrs. Carter opening her shop again.
Several days ago, when Evan was passing by her store, he saw a closed sign on the store’s door. When the shop remained closed for not just two days, Evan was worried he’d never be able to get his “dream job”.
85-year-old Mrs. Carter was a woman selling flowers for a living and Evan had befriended her when he helped her cross the street one day.
Now seeing her again, Evan ran up to her and greeted her. “Can I help you today, Evan? Do you want flowers?” Mrs. Carter asked. Evan smiled, “I’m looking for a job! Can you please hire me?”
“A job?” the elderly lady laughed, thinking Evan was too little for that. But Evan proudly replied he knew many things, like making sandwiches and helping his mom get grocery bags from the car. Mrs. Carter laughed and asked Evan how much money she would have to pay him if she hired him.
Evan shook his head. “All I want is a big bouquet (花束) for my mom. Her name is Stacey and her birthday is one week away. Mom says we should work hard for what we want. I want to work hard for that bouquet. Can you hire me?” Evan asked. Mrs. Carter was impressed and nodded.
Then for a whole week, Evan would come to Mrs. Carter’s store in the evenings and help her, and having Evan around relieved Mrs. Carter’s boredom while she was working. Some customers thought Evan was lovely and entertaining, so they bought more flowers. Mrs. Carter’s business became better.
A week later, on Evan’s last day on the job, Mrs. Carter was emotional. They had grown close for working together, and Evan had become like a grandchild to her. While making a huge bouquet for Evan’s mother, Mrs. Carter secretly placed one envelope into the bouquet. The envelope contained $200. When handing him the bouquet, she said, “Will you come to see me someday, Evan? I’d be delighted to have you here.”
“I will!” Evan smiled and waved goodbye to Mrs. Carter.

【答案】Paragraph 1:
Carrying the flowers, Evan rushed home to surprise his mom. “Happy birthday, Mom!” he cried, running up to her. Stacey was shocked at the huge bouquet. “Where did you get it?” she asked. When Evan told the whole story, Stacey was delighted and hugged her son closely. Evan smiled and was about to give her the bouquet when he suddenly noticed the envelope. He pulled it out and found the money in it. “But I told Mrs. Carter not to pay me! I think this got here by mistake!” said Evan.
Paragraph 2:
Then, Evan and his mom hurried to return the money to Mrs. Carter. When they reached her shop and were about to return the money, Mrs. Carter smiled and said, “It’s my pay for Evan. He did a very good job. Keep it. The flowers are my gift for you.” Stacey was grateful for Mrs. Carter’s kindness and invited her home for dinner that night to celebrate her birthday together. From then on, Stacey started to join Evan in helping Mrs. Carter in her shop and they became friends.
