Step1ask the students to look at exercise 1, play the recording, say: just listen and pay attention to the red letters.Then play again and lead Ss to sum up the red letter sound. Write them on the board:p /p/, b /b/ ,t /t/, d /d/, c or k /k/, g/g/have a match: four students a group, ask them to think of other words withp /p/, b /b/ ,t /t/, d /d/, c or k /k/, g/g/. the group with the most words wins. Tell them they have three minutes.Step2 exercise 8Ask the students to guess the missing letters before listening.Play the recording, ask Ss to listen and check their guessinganswers. Then check in class.Step3 exercise 9First give an example, then play the recording, say: listen and circle the words you hear. then check in class.Step4 exercise 10Say to students: saya word with the sound /p/, point to “pen” , then have students get into pairs and say “ choose a sound and test your parter”. Monitor them ,help them if necessary.Step5make a “word chain”Say: let’s make a “word chain”. The first student says a word with one of the consonant sounds and another student says a word with one of the consonants from that word. If a student say a word says a word without one of the consonants from that word or can’t think of a word, he or she should sit down, the last students standing when the time is up are the winners.
