Bdy language is ne f the mst pwerful means f cmmunicatin, ften even mre pwerful than spken language. Althugh we may nt realize it when we talk with thers, we make urselves understd nt nly by wrds. We send messages t the peple arund us als by expressins1 and bdy mvements. We call it “bdy language”, which is a kind f cmmunicatin—nn-verbal cmmunicatin. Peple arund the wrld shw all kinds f feelings, wishes and attitudes that they might never speak alud. A smile and handshake shw welcme, waving ne's hand is t say “gdbye”, ndding the head means agreement, while shaking it means disagreement. Putting up a hand
means “May I ask a questin?”. Kissing means “l(fā)ve”. Waving ne's arms shws happiness. These gestures are accepted bth by Chinese and Americans as having the same meanings. With s many cultural differences between peple, it is great t have sme similarities2 in bdy language. We can ften be wrng abut each ther, s it is an amazing3 thing that we understand each ther as well as we d. Nt all cultures greet each ther in the same way,nr are they cmfrtable in the same way with tuching r distance between peple. These actins are nt gd r bad, but are simple ways in which cultures have develped. In general, thugh, studying internatinal4 custms can certainly help avid difficulties in tday's wrld f cultural crssrads5.
