Still, t be hnest, I started this practice thinking that I wuld just bleed mney, and that I wuld run ut f mney sn. This never happened. When I returned t Massachusetts, it tk 8 days befre I walked past a hmeless persn wh asked me fr sme spare change. I was wndering, “Hw culd I step it up?!?”
Fast frward t last week. On my way t my MIT new year perfrmance, I ran acrss a hmeless persn — Tmmy. I gave Tmmy $1. Tmmy was in tears. After a big hug, he went n t tell me that nbdy listened t him. Nbdy lked at him, peple just walked right by him withut leaving anything and didn’t even acknwledge that he was alive. My heart brke. We hugged n the street fr a few secnds and then we went int the lcal McDnalds where I rdered him a #6 fish meal (supersized f curse!). After the meal, I tld him I had t run and said I’d see him sn.
The next day, when I walked past Tmmy, I gave him a dllar again. But this time, I sat with Tmmy, in the cld, fr an hur and a half. Mstly I just listened and was extremely humbled (感到卑微) by the experience f simply sitting and watching my perspective change frm being smene wh simply walks by t smene wh’s nw an unprivileged pan-handler. As we were talking, he was telling me abut hw upset he becmes when peple dn’t acknwledge him r they’ll crack up at his funny sign (“Vldermrt (伏地魔) brke my life. Feeling hpeless and Needing $ fr a new start”). I knew right then that I was ging t give him everything I had. Befre I left, I didn’t even cunt the mney in my wallet. I just gave it all, it was prbably mre than $200. I didn’t miss it. Mre will cme and g in the future.
At that mment, I just wanted t cnvince him that what I ffered was nt just mney.

【答案】
At that mment, I just wanted t cnvince him that what I ffered was nt just mney. In that secnd, I gt t give smene a dream, a little hpe and if nly fr 5 minutes, peace f mind that the wrld isn’t a dark, cynical, selfish place. I want t see mre cmpassin, mre peple stpping by and helping the hmeless, acknwledging that they are alive and realizing that parting with $1 isn’t abut the mney. It’s abut helping them push thrugh their wn fear f change and enhance cmpassin in their lives. I was wndering what I culd d t step up my effrts t walk him ut f shadw.
Next up, I decided t make him a new sign. I spent several evenings meticulusly sketching varius designs until I finally settled n ne that resnated with me. The sign read, ?“One dllar warms stmach and ne smile warms heart”, wrds that encapsulated the idea t aruse mre peple’s cmpassin. When I met Tmmy the next day and presented him with the new sign, tears f appreciatin streamed dwn his cheeks. He held the sign as if it were a treasure, unwilling t divert his gaze away frm it even fr a secnd. Then we walked tgether thrugh the bustling streets f New Yrk City, and I culd see the difference it made.
