Cral reefs (珊瑚礁) are ne f the mst astnishing and vital ecsystems n ur planet. They are ften referred t as the “rain frests f the sea” due t their rich bidiversity and significant eclgical imprtance.
Cral reefs are frmed by the accumulatin (積累) f calcium carbnate prduced by tiny marine rganisms (海洋生物) called cral plyps. These plyps wrk tgether ver lng perids f time t create large, cmplex structures that prvide a habitat fr a large cllectin f marine life.
One f the remarkable features f cral reefs is the incredible diversity f species they supprt. Thusands f different types f fish, crustaceans, mllusks, and ther marine creatures call cral reefs hme. This diversity is nt nly a wnder t behld but als plays a crucial rle in maintaining the balance f the marine ecsystem.
Reefs als ffer imprtant ecnmic benefits. They attract turists frm all ver the wrld, cntributing t lcal ecnmies thrugh activities such as diving, and fishing.
Hwever, cral reefs are currently facing numerus threats. Climate change is a majr cncern, as rising sea temperatures cause cral bleaching. When water gets t warm, crals expel (排出) the symbitic algae that gives them their clr and prvides essential nutrients, ften leading t the death f the cral. Pllutin, verfishing, and destructive fishing practices als pse significant risks t the health and survival f these delicate ecsystems.
It is ur respnsibility t take actin and prtect cral reefs fr the benefit f present and future generatins. Only thrugh ur cllective effrts can we hpe t preserve these magnificent underwater landscapes and the cuntless species that depend n them.

The human brain is a remarkable rgan, especially when it cmes t language learning. Scientists have lng been fascinated by hw the brain prcesses languages and the differences in language acquisitin between children and adults.
Recent research has shwn that the brain’s plasticity plays a crucial rle in language learning. Plasticity refers t the brain’s ability t change and adapt. In children, the brain is highly plastic, which allws them t pick up languages with relative ease. Their brains are like spnges (海綿), saking up new wrds, grammar rules, and prnunciatin patterns quickly. Fr example, yung children can ften learn a secnd language withut an accent, smething that is much mre difficult fr adults.
One area f the brain that is particularly imprtant fr language learning is Brca’s area. Lcated in the frntal lbe, Brca’s area is respnsible fr speech prductin and language prcessing. When we speak, Brca’s area crdinates (協(xié)調(diào)) the muscles in ur muth, tngue, and thrat t frm wrds. Damage t this area can lead t speech disrders, such as difficulty in frming sentences and expressing thughts clearly.
Anther key regin is Wernicke’s area, which is fund in the tempral lbe. Wernicke’s area is invlved in language cmprehensin. It helps us understand the meaning f wrds and sentences we hear r read. If there is damage t Wernicke’s area, a persn may be able t speak fluently (流利地) but may nt make sense, as they have truble understanding the language they are using.
As we age, the brain’s plasticity decreases. This is why adults ften find it mre challenging t learn a new language. Hwever, it desn’t mean that adults can’t learn languages effectively. Adult brains can still frm new neural cnnectins thrugh practice and repetitin. Fr instance, language immersin prgrams, where adults are surrunded by the target language, can be very effective in prmting language learning.
In additin t the physical changes in the brain, cgnitive (認(rèn)知) factrs als play a rle. Mtivatin, fr example, is a significant factr in language learning. Adults wh are highly mtivated t learn a new language tend t be mre successful. They are mre likely t practice regularly, seek ut pprtunities t use the language, and persevere thrugh difficulties.
As a whle, the brain’s structure and functin, alng with cgnitive factrs, all cntribute t the prcess f language learning. Whether yu are a child r an adult, understanding hw the brain wrks in language learning can help yu find the mst effective ways t acquire a new language.
12. What can be learned accrding t the recent research?
A. Children’s brains are less plastic than adults’.
B. Adults can never learn a new language as effectively as children.
C. Adults may face mre difficulties in acquiring a new language.
D. Bth children and adults can learn a secnd language withut an accent.
13. If a persn can speak fluently but illgically, which is mst likely damaged?
A. Brca’s area.B. Wernicke’s area.
C. The tempral lbe as a whle.D. The frntal lbe in general.
14. Which cntributes t effective language learning in adults?
A. Relying slely n textbks fr learning.
B. Being absrbed in the language envirnment.
C. Strictly fllwing grammar rules frm the beginning.
D. Aviding speaking until perfect prnunciatin is achieved.
15 What can be inferred frm the last paragraph?
A Children are better at language learning than adults.
B. Adults shuld fcus nly n cgnitive factrs fr language learning.
C. Language immersin prgram is the best way t learn a language.
D. Language learning invlves bth physical and mental aspects.

15. What can be inferred frm the last paragraph?
A. Children are better at language learning than adults.
B. Adults shuld fcus nly n cgnitive factrs fr language learning.
C. Language immersin prgram is the best way t learn a language.
D. Language learning invlves bth physical and mental aspects.
