Billy hated his new schl in Ohi, and he was sure everyne at his new schl hated him. Changing schls and hme at twelve because his parents died was awful. Billy missed his parents, and he missed his friends f New Yrk. His grandpa Jimmy was ding his best, but Billy was sure he’d hate Ohi frever.
“Billy,” his teacher said, “yu’re new, s yu dn’t knw abut ur Spring Schl Festival. We have a barbecue and varius cmpetitins fr children and parents. It’s fun, and it will be a gd pprtunity fr yu t get t knw everyne better!” But Billy didn’t think s and he didn’t want t attend the festival. The teacher smiled, “Yu have t. I’m sending a nte t yur parents!” Billy replied he nly had his grandpa.
The ther kids were lking at him and whispering t each ther. Billy felt like a freak (怪人). His face turned red and his eyes were filled with tears. “He’s crying!” said sme kids. “Cry-baby! Cry-baby!”
Upset, Billy walked hme with the nte frm his teacher. He handed the nte t Jimmy, saying they had t g t the bad festival. Jimmy said, “The Spring Schl Festival? Oh, it’s fun.” “Right!” Billy sighed. “I dn’t have parents, s I’ll be even mre f a freak.” Jimmy, a previus sldier, replied thughtfully, “I used t cmpete when yur dad was yur age. I even wn a few times.” Billy was excited, thinking he’d get majr respect if his grandpa wn this game.
Hwever, the 60-year-ld Jimmy wasn’t yung any lnger and dubted whether he culd still win. But t cheer Billy and give him cnfidence in the new schl, he determined t cmpete and try t win Parent f the Year. T achieve it, he had t at least wn three cmpetitins f the fur: pie baking, sck repairing, egg race (walking with an egg n a spn) , and archery (射箭) .
Knwing the cmpetitins, Billy thught it wuld be challenging fr his grandpa t win, and hped his schlmates wuldn’t laugh when finding an ld man in cmpetitins. With a heavy heart, Billy set ff fr the festival. He felt embarrassed. when Jimmy signed up fr the cmpetitins and the pretty lady taking dwn names laughed, “Are yu sure, sir?”
