Learning aim: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to Learn words and expressions about different kinds of natural disasters. Learn to talk about natural disasters Know how to survive an earthquake. Teaching process: Step One lead in Show pictures about different kinds of natural disasters to introduce the topic. Tell students the learning aims of the lessons. Step Two Presentation and practice Show the picture of Hobo and Eddie. Students guess what happened and what the weather was like. Read questions , and then watch the video. Answer the questions. Read after the video. Try to imitate. Ss practice in pairs and then act out the dialog. Have a free talk with Ss about the bad weather. Teach new words and expressions like: Thunder and lightning There was a heavy storm with thunder and lightning. catch fire A flood washed away the village. Show the headlines and ask Ss to match the pictures with the headlines. Ss try to differ natural disasters from accidents. Ss try to find out what is special about newspaper headlines. Step Three task solving Show a picture of Jerry who was trapped because of an earthquake. If Ss can finish the following tasks successfully , they can save him out. Task A Ss have a brainstorming. Try to think of the words about natural disasters. Task B Ss listen to the dialog on P93, then answer the given questions . Read in roles. Task C Ss read a news report about a flood. Then try to talk about the disaster in pairs , using the given example as a model. Task D Suppose an earthquake happens . Ss listen and follow the teacher’s instructions as quickly as possible to protect themselves. Read an article and try to find out more about how to survive an earthquake. After reading , decide whether the five given sentences are true or false. Send the answer to the teacher . Show the accuracy result on the screen and explain the difficult ones if possible. Step Four Homework Review the words and expressions learnt in this lesson and finish the exercises in the workbook. Preview the reading part. Search for information about how to survive an earthquake.
