Climate mdels can give us a preview f hw humanity’s actins - r inactin - will change ur planet ver the cming decades and centuries. But because the planet is such a cmplex system, they aren’t perfect: climate mdels have uncertainties that grw larger as they g farther int the future. Scientists and engineers frm acrss the cuntry are teaming up t build a new type f climate mdel that is designed t prvide mre precise and actinable predictins.
Current climate mdeling relies n dividing up the glbe int a grid (網(wǎng)格) and then cmputing what is ging n in each sectr f the grid, as well as hw the sectrs interact with each ther. Limitatins in available cmputer prcessing pwer mean that thse sectrs generally cannt be any smaller than tens f kilmeters per side. But fr climate mdeling, the devil is in the details-details that get missed in a t-large grid. “Fr cities planning their strmwater management facilities t resist the next 100 years’ wrth f flds, this is a serius issue. Cncrete answers abut the likely range f climate utcmes are key fr planning,” says Tapi Schneider, senir research scientist at CliMA.
Weighing recent advances in the cmputatinal and data sciences, the team plans t step in and each f the partners brings a different strength and research expertise t the prject. “Our gal is a new mdel that prjects future changes in critical variables such as clud cver, sea ice extent, and rainfall mre accurately-with uncertainties at least half the size f thse in existing mdels,” said Dr. Andrew, the team leader.
One dubter abut the applicatin f climate mdels is Raffaele Ferrari, a Cecil and Ida Green Prfessr f Oceangraphy at MIT. “Using a mdel, we becme puppeteers, masters f a giant system that is, in truth, beynd human cntrl. We can cl r heat the planet at will, add salt r ice r rain r dust in any amunt we want,” Dr. Ferrari says. “We have n backup planet. Hw climate mdels are used remains t be seen.”
32. Why are climate mdels built?
A. T cllect scientific data. B. T mnitr human actins.
C. T deliver useful frecasts. D. T maintain scial systems.
33. What is the prblem f current climate mdeling?
A. Shrtage f facilities. B. Reliance n cmputers.
C. Limitatins in simplifying details. D. Inability t get smaller grids.
34. What des the team aim t d?
A. Investigate serius issuesB. Guarantee the safety f the city
C. Change the future climate. D. Imprve the accuracy f the mdels.
35. What can be inferred frm the last paragraph?
A. Climate mdels enjys great ppularity.
B. Scientists have created a new climate mdel.
C. Cautin is advised in the use f climate mdels.
D. Dubts abut climate mdels are disappearing.

26.D。 通讀全文,尤其是第三段中的“But even with the pain that ccurred, she has been able t put up with it and cntinued.”和最后一段中的“hw strng ne can be ... yu can d anything”“This whle jurney ... hw strng I can be as a persn and hw far I can push myself.”
annyed“生氣的,惱怒的”;admiring“欽佩的,贊賞的”;sympathetic“表示同情的,贊同的”;critical“批判的”。
28.A。 根據(jù)第三段中的“Over the last 75 years, mre than 80% f Siamese crcdiles have disappeared. Many, like this ne, were hunted fr their skins as part f the illegal wildlife trade.(在過去的75年里,超過80%的暹羅鱷已經(jīng)消失。 故選A。
29. D。 根據(jù)第四段中的“Native t parts f Sutheast Asia, Siamese crcdiles are critically endangered and have becme virtually extinct in the wild. Due t hunting as well as habitat lss, they are nw absent frm nearly 99% f their riginal range.(暹羅鱷原產(chǎn)于東南亞部分地區(qū),是極度瀕危的動物,在野外幾乎已經(jīng)滅絕。
根據(jù)畫線處“The particular handbag that is n display at the z was(在動物園展出的那個特別的手提包被)”以及“at a UK airprt(在英國機(jī)場)”可知,這只在動物園展出的手提包是在英國機(jī)場查封的,畫線處和C項(xiàng):Seized(沒收,查封)含義接近。故選C。
31.B。 根據(jù)最后一段中的“We made this exhibit, within ZSL Lndn Z’s Reptile Huse, t draw visitrs’ attentin t the destructive impact the Illegal Wildlife Trade (IWT) is having n species arund the wrld.
根據(jù)第一段中的“Climate mdels can give us a preview f hw humanity’s actins—r inactin—will change ur planet ver the cming decades and centuries.(氣候模型可以讓我們預(yù)覽人類的行為——或不作為——將如何在未來幾十年和幾個世紀(jì)改變我們的星球。)”以及“Scientists and engineers frm acrss the cuntry are teaming up t build a new type f climate mdel that is designed t prvide mre precise and actinable predictins.(來自全國各地的科學(xué)家和工程師正在合作建立一種新型的氣候模型,旨在提供更精確和可操作的預(yù)測。)”
根據(jù)第二段中的“Current climate mdeling relies n dividing up the glbe int a grid (網(wǎng)格) and then cmputing what is ging n in each sectr f the grid, as well as hw the sectrs interact with each ther. Limitatins in available cmputer prcessing pwer mean that thse sectrs generally cannt be any smaller than tens f kilmeters per side. 34.D。 根據(jù)第三段“Weighing recent advances in the cmputatinal and data sciences, the team plans t step in and each f the partners brings a different strength and research expertise t the prject. ‘Our gal is a new mdel that prjects future changes in critical variables such as clud cver, sea ice extent, and rainfall mre accurately-with uncertainties at least half the size f thse in existing mdels,’ said Dr. Andrew, the team leader.(考慮到計(jì)算和數(shù)據(jù)科學(xué)的最新進(jìn)展,該團(tuán)隊(duì)計(jì)劃進(jìn)行深入研究。
根據(jù)最后一段“One dubter abut the applicatin f climate mdels is Raffaele Ferrari, a Cecil and Ida Green Prfessr f Oceangraphy at MIT. ‘Using a mdel, we becme puppeteers, masters f a giant system that is, in truth, beynd human cntrl.
36.A。前文引出culture這個話題,根據(jù)后文“Scilgists define the nn-material aspects f culture as the values and beliefs, language, cmmunicatin and practices that are shared in cmmn by a grup f peple.(社會學(xué)家將文化的非物質(zhì)方面定義為一群人共有的價值觀、信仰、語言、交流和實(shí)踐。)” A項(xiàng)“It is cmpsed f bth nn-material and material things.(它由非物質(zhì)的和物質(zhì)的東西組成。)” 故選A。
37.C。后文提到“It infrms hw we walk, sit, carry ur bdies and interact with thers; hw we behave depending n the place, time and ‘a(chǎn)udience’;and hw we express identities f race, class and gender, amng thers.(它體現(xiàn)在我們走路、坐著、運(yùn)用身體以及與他人互動的方式中;我們的行為取決于地點(diǎn)、時間和’觀眾’;以及我們?nèi)绾伪磉_(dá)種族、階級和性別等身份。)” C項(xiàng)“Culture is als what we d and hw we behave and perfrm.(文化也是我們所做的以及我們的行為和表現(xiàn)。)”
38.D。根據(jù)第三段中的“This aspect f culture includes a wide variety f things, frm buildings, technlgical gadgets and clthing, t film, music, literature and art, amng thers.(這方面的文化包括各種各樣的東西,從建筑、科技產(chǎn)品和服裝,到電影、音樂、文學(xué)和藝術(shù)等等。)”可知,能通過建筑、科技等方式體現(xiàn)的文化指的是文化的物質(zhì)方面,D項(xiàng)“Material culture is cmpsed f the things that humans make and use.(物質(zhì)文化是由人類制造和使用的東西組成的。)”
39. F。根據(jù)前文“Material culture emerges frm and is shaped by the nn-material aspects f culture.(物質(zhì)文化產(chǎn)生于文化的非物質(zhì)方面,并由其塑造。)”可知,文化的物質(zhì)和非物質(zhì)方面是相互影響的,尤其是非物質(zhì)方面會影響物質(zhì)方面,F(xiàn)項(xiàng)“In ther wrds, what we value, believe and knw influences the things that we make.(換句話說,我們所重視的、相信的和知道的影響著我們所做的事情。)”由此判斷,該項(xiàng)提到的“what we value, believe and knw(我們所重視的、相信的和知道的)”即為文化的非物質(zhì)方面,該項(xiàng)起到承上啟下的作用。故選F。
40.G。前文已經(jīng)提到“Material culture can als influence the nn-material aspects f culture.(物質(zhì)文化也能夠影響非物質(zhì)文化。)” (Fr example, a great dcumentary film might change peple’s attitudes and beliefs.),這正好是對前文觀點(diǎn)的例證。同時,與后文“This is why cultural prducts tend t fllw patterns.(這是為什么文化產(chǎn)品往往遵循一定的模式。)”

42.A?? unfld“(故事)展開,講述”;find“發(fā)現(xiàn);展現(xiàn)”;release“釋放;松開”;lie“躺”。 故選A。
43.C?? 根據(jù)下文第47空后的“the by was flded at that spt”可知,這個男孩在湖中游泳時在離岸邊約80英尺的地方被淹沒了。故選C。
45.A。 alarm“使驚恐”;call“大聲呼叫”;remind“使想起”;amaze“使驚奇”。根據(jù)下文的“Ramsay, a paddler (槳手), paddled tward the chas”可知,Ramsay 被呼救聲驚動,向混亂的人群劃去。故選A。
46.A?? 故選A。
47.B。 根據(jù)空處所在句“... bubbles rising t the surface near his paddle-bard led him t 47 that the by was flded at that spt...”
48.D?? 根據(jù)第二段中的“saved a teenage by frm a life-threatening situatin”以及第三段中的“diving 15 feet t the lake’s bttm t lcate the uncnscius teenager”可知,Ramsay在危及生命的情況下救了一個十幾歲的男孩,他潛入15英尺深的湖底,找到這名昏迷的少年,這表現(xiàn)出了他非凡的勇氣。故選D。
50.C?? 根據(jù)空后的“an arm arund his chest”及生活常識可知,Ramsay應(yīng)是用一只胳膊環(huán)繞(wrap)住男孩的胸膛。故選C。
51.A?? 故選A。
52.B?? 根據(jù)下文的“The wman leaned acrss her paddle-bard ... while 53 Ramsay and the by ...”
stare at“盯著”;pull ver“靠邊停車”;pick up“撿起;接載;學(xué)會;收聽(信號)”;hld nt“緊緊抓住”。
casually“隨意地”;ccasinally“偶然地”;apparently“顯然”;eventually“最終”?!

57.which?? 分析句子結(jié)構(gòu)可知,“ 57 cmbines ice,snw,sund and lights”為非限制性定語從句,設(shè)空處指代先行詞The park在從句中作主語,先行詞The park 指物,故填which。

Mrs. Thmpsn pened it in the middle f the ther presents. Inside the heavy, brwn paper, she fund a small bx, with sme dirty hand prints bviusly seen. Upn sptting this ugly item, his classmates burst int laughter while Teddy lwered his head awkwardly, speechless. Curiusly, Mrs. Thmpsn pened it, her hands cvering her muth in n time and tears welling up frm her eyes. Laid inside was a single, perfect white seashell with a nte written in Teddy’s untidy handwriting: “Fr yu, Mrs. Thmpsn. Thank yu fr being my teacher.” At that mment, mixed feelings swept ver her. She culdn’t cntain her emtin and rushed t hug Teddy tightly.
After the children left, she cried fr at least an hur. Each tear that fell carried a weight f regret. She reflected n all the times she had judged Teddy withut truly understanding his struggles. Hw culd she have been s cruel t a pr by? Then she made a silent prmise t be mre careful and understanding t her students. Frm that day frward, Mrs. Thmpsn did everything she culd t reach ut t him. When marking his papers, she ffered him mre encuragement and supprt. Slwly but surely, she began t see a change in him. Smetimes genuine care can truly make a difference t thers’ life, whether yu’re a teacher r smebdy else.
Thmpsn pened it in the middle f the ther presents.”,再結(jié)合文本最后一段“Teddy給老師的圣誕節(jié)禮物明顯不如其他學(xué)生的漂亮”可知,本段續(xù)寫的主要內(nèi)容為:牛皮紙里面包的是什么;同學(xué)們看到禮物的反應(yīng);老師的反應(yīng)。
根據(jù)續(xù)寫第二段開頭語“After the children left, she cried fr at least an hur.” Mrs.
