教材分析
本課是一節(jié)閱讀課，該語(yǔ)篇選自美國(guó)著名詩(shī)人、小說(shuō)家、批評(píng)家埃德加·愛倫·坡 （1809—1849）的短篇小說(shuō) “A Descent int the Maelstrm” 《大漩渦歷險(xiǎn)記》。小說(shuō)采取倒敘手法，回憶了三年前主人翁和兩個(gè)兄弟又去了經(jīng)常去探險(xiǎn)的島嶼，捕撈到了比其他人更多的魚，返回時(shí)在海上遇險(xiǎn)的故事。主人翁的哥哥和弟弟在大漩渦中分別遇難，主人翁機(jī)智地把自己綁在一個(gè)桶上在海上漂流，最后僥幸被一艘船救起。雖然救主人翁的漁夫都是主人翁的老朋友，但是他們都認(rèn)不出主人翁本人了，也不相信主人翁的歷險(xiǎn)故事，因?yàn)椴坏揭惶斓臅r(shí)間，主人翁的頭發(fā)就從黑變白了，主人翁的身體和靈魂已經(jīng)支離破碎，看上去已經(jīng)是一個(gè)很老的人了。

在本課學(xué)習(xí)結(jié)束時(shí)，學(xué)生能夠：
1. 通過(guò)閱讀，獲取小說(shuō)中的主人翁海上遇險(xiǎn)的相關(guān)信息。
2. 能用恰當(dāng)?shù)恼Z(yǔ)言講述自己讀完該短篇小說(shuō)的感受，正確認(rèn)識(shí)大自然的福與禍。

Step 1 Warming-up

2. Brainstrm: D yu knw any wrds r phrases related t the sea?
設(shè)計(jì)意圖：談?wù)撆c海洋相關(guān)的人物故事，從和海洋相關(guān)的世界名著著手，引入主題。并通過(guò)頭腦風(fēng)暴，拓展與海洋相關(guān)的詞匯和短語(yǔ)。
Step 2 Pre-reading
1. Lk at the pictures. Use the wrds and phrases t describe the pictures.
2. Yu are ging t read a text adapted frm the shrt stry “A Descent int the Maelstrm”. Read Fact File n page 30 and answer the questins.
(1) What is a “Mske-strm”?
(2) Wh wrte the stry?
設(shè)計(jì)意圖：引導(dǎo)學(xué)生根據(jù)提供的三幅圖，描述圖片內(nèi)容，并學(xué)習(xí)Fact File，獲取本故事的作者Edgar Allen Pe的基本信息，并了解大漩渦海洋專業(yè)詞匯，為閱讀做好準(zhǔn)備。

1. Read the text and discuss the questins.
(1) Wh are the main characters in the stry?
(2) Wh is telling the stry?
(3) When and where did the stry happen?
(4) What effect did the terrible experience have n the stryteller?
設(shè)計(jì)意圖：學(xué)生通過(guò)閱讀故事，掌握故事的人物和主要故事情景及歷險(xiǎn)給stryteller 造成的影響。
2. Read and cmplete the infrmatin in the bxes. Then add the stryteller’s feelings during each situatin.
設(shè)計(jì)意圖：學(xué)生通過(guò)細(xì)讀，完成故事四個(gè)階段的表格填空題，并總結(jié)判斷四個(gè)不同場(chǎng)景中故事講述者的不同感情變化。

(2) Why did the stryteller survive while his elder brther didn’t?
(3) What des the stryteller mean by “it tk nly six hurs t break my bdy and sul”?
(4) What lessns have yu learnt frm the stry? Give yur reasns.

設(shè)計(jì)意圖：引導(dǎo)學(xué)生對(duì)小說(shuō)內(nèi)容進(jìn)行深入探討的同時(shí)，進(jìn)行拓展問(wèn)題探討，并引導(dǎo)學(xué)生聯(lián)系實(shí)際，思考從小說(shuō)中學(xué)到了什么，人類和海洋是什么樣的關(guān)系，培養(yǎng)發(fā)散思維和批判性思維能力。

Guide Ss t learn the key language pints.

Cmplete the illustratin abut hw the stryteller vercame his fear and struggled t survive frm the whirlpl. Then use the time wrds (when, suddenly, then, finally) t tell the stry.
設(shè)計(jì)意圖：引導(dǎo)學(xué)生借助時(shí)間關(guān)聯(lián)詞進(jìn)一步梳理小說(shuō)內(nèi)容，鞏固所學(xué)。

Step 2 Vcabulary Study
1. In English yu get wrds with similar meanings (synnyms) r wrds with ppsite meanings (antnyms). Find mre pairs f synnyms and antnyms in the stry. Discuss why such wrds are used.
2. Write dwn synnyms and antnyms f the fllwing wrds.

3. Cmplete the sentences abut yurself using relative clauses.
