Besides, I don’t know what your middle school was like, but high school teachers will not care about things such as how much homework you already have in one night. It’s best to just learn to deal with things and manage your time wisely so you can achieve everything you need. Frank, Aged 21 I think almost every kid feels both nervous and excited before their first day. You will probably love it. I know I did. You should join in some sports or activities that will make your high school experience more enjoyable. Good luck! Eddie, Aged 20 When I started high school I was really nervous too, especially since I had been home-schooled all through middle school and didn’t really know anyone. I suppose the best advice would be to just relax. The first couple of days can be a little bit hard, but things will become easier after you know them. David, Aged 19 I’m not going to lie. The first day is kind of frightening. But you’ll get used to it. Don’t be afraid of anyone; upperclassmen will pick on you more if you let them know you’re afraid. Just take it easy. Making some friends and staying with them will greatly help you get used to high school quickly. After the first week it’s really not bad at all. Don’t worry. 21.What can we infer from Sharon about high school? A.Teachers are quite strict. B.Students often stay up at night. C.Teachers provide little care for students. D.Students should make good use of their time. 22.How did Eddie feel on his first day of high school? A.Excited B.Bored. C.Worried. D.Relaxed. 23.Who mentions the importance of friends? A.Frank. B.David. C.Sharon. D.Eddie. B Brody Ridder attends the Academy Charter School in Westminster, Colorado. When he got his yearbook(學(xué)校年刊), he went up to people and asked them to sign his yearbook but most of them refused. He collected only two or three names from classmates and two notes from his teachers. So, Brody wrote a yearbook note to himself, “Hope you make more friends.” Reading that note broke his mother’s heart. She took a photo of the note and posted it to a Facebook group for parents at the school. The post made its way to three high-schoolers: Simone Lightfoot, Logan South and Joanna Cooper. They spent hours discussing the problem and finding ways to help. “It’s so fun to have everyone sign the yearbook, but for this kid few people have signed their names in his yearbook. It’s just heartbreaking,” Lightfoot said. They all started planning that the next day they were going to sign this kid’s yearbook. The three rounded up as many students as possible to sign Brody’s yearbook even though none of them had ever met the three high-schoolers. According to the teens, people were lining up waiting to fill in the blanks in Brody’s yearbook. Many of the more than 100 signatures included paragraphs with words of encouragement, advice and even phone numbers. And then right after that, all the other classmates signed Brody’s yearbook. The teens said they hoped that the small friendly act could encourage other kids to be kind. “It makes me feel better now. I don’t know how to explain it. It makes me feel better from the bottom of my heart,” Brody said. “It makes me feel like there’s hope for the school, there’s hope for humanity and there’re a lot of good kids in this world,” his mother said. 24.Why did Brody write “Hope you make more friends.” in his yearbook? A.He hoped to know more about newcomers. B.He planned to get another yearbook from others. C.He decided to give up signing the yearbook. D.He wished more people to sign his yearbook in the following days. 25.How did the three high-schoolers learn about Brody’s story? A.From their teachers. B.From the Internet. C.From the newspaper. D.From their classmates. 26.What was the result of the three high-schoolers’ effort to help Brody? A.People lined up waiting to give yearbooks to Brody. B.Less than 100 people signed Brody’s yearbook. C.All of Brody’s classmates signed his yearbook. D.Many students asked to meet the three high-schoolers. 27.Which word can best describe the three high-schoolers? A.Warm-hearted. B.Creative. C.Generous. D.Wise. C Ever since the fall of the Republic of Venice in 1797, locals have been complaining that Venice, is being overrun by visitors. Having spent decades trying to attract tourists, the city council is now rethinking its approach. The city proclaimed a rule that visitors who enter Venice are requested to pay a fee ranging from 3 to 10 euros in the peak season when the city is very crowded, unless they have booked the ticket to Venice beforehand. This regulation came into effect in January 2023. Not only do Venetians think there are too many tourists, but also locals in Amsterdam are fed up with drunken visitors leaving a trail of litter. Some of the protesters even attack tourist buses and leave the graffiti saying “Tourists go home, refugees welcome”. The word “over-tourism” is created to describe the consequences of having too many tourists. Even so, the rise in the number of tourists is not the real problem. Alex Dichter of McKinsey says, “People in 99% of countries in the world are crying out for more tourists, not fewer.” He explains, “The problem is that these tourists are all travelling to the same places.” This has surprised many people in the travel industry. The spread of the Internet is meant to disperse(分散) tourists by making less well-known places easier to find. Analysts at Skift, a travel website, attribute it to(把……歸因于) the rise of the “bucket list”, which features “a list of things to do before I kick the bucket”. And the result is obvious—tourists are all directed to the same must-see places. ? The local authorities are working on strategies to cope. An extreme reaction is to ban tourists from entering entirely or to limit visitor numbers. A smarter approach is to make changes to taxes and charges. Tourists staying in the city center pay more taxes than those staying far away. Thordis, Iceland’s tourist minister, says, “Another part of the answer is to let visitors spread out by making different marketing campaigns or improving tourist attractions for unfavorable seasons.” Venice is currently improving its infrastructures(基礎(chǔ)設(shè)施) to encourage tourists to visit more than just the main sights. Traditionalists may refuse to build new infrastructures in the beautiful old city. But more links can benefit locals and visitors alike. One Chinese tourist thinks this is a good idea, “I might be able to see more of the history that way.” 28.According to Paragraph 2, who is going to pay the extra fee? A.A visitor who spends a night in Venice in the peak season. B.A visitor who comes in the off season with friends. C.A visitor who buys the entrance ticket upon arrival in the peak season. D.A visitor who comes in the peak season with reservations. 29.What can be inferred from Alex Dichter’s words? A.Most of the countries are demanding fewer tourists. B.The locals in Amsterdam welcome the visitors. C.People are travelling to various places. D.People all tend to go to the same places for sightseeing. 30.What does the underlined phrase in Paragraph 4 mean? A.Get a job. B.Get married. C.Pass away. D.Graduate from university. 31.Which of the following can be an effective measure against over-tourism according to Thordis? A.Preventing the visitors from coming in the peak season. B.Charging the visitors more fees when the city is crowded. C.Building a hot spring in the remote cold area. D.Constructing more infrastructures in popular scenic spots. D In a natural disaster—a hurricane, a flood, a volcanic eruption, or other catastrophes—minutes and even seconds of warning can make the difference between life and death. Because of this, scientists are working to use the latest technologies to predict when and where disasters will happen. They are also studying how to best analyze and communicate this information once it is obtained. On September 29, 1998, Hurricane Georges made landfall in Biloxi, Mississippi, after damaging Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, and several islands of the Caribbean badly with heavy rain and winds up to 160 km per hour. Few people lost their lives along the Gulf Coast of the United States, although hundreds died in the Caribbean. This was a very different result from 1900’s, when a powerful Gulf Coast hurricane made an unexpected direct attack on Galveston, Texas, killing at least 6,000 people. Vastly improved hurricane warning systems at the end of the 20th century explained the different circumstances—residents of Galveston had no advance warning that a storm was approaching, while residents of Biloxi had been warned days in advance, allowing for extensive safety precautions(預(yù)防措施). At the same time people in Biloxi were thankful for the advance warning, but some residents of New Orleans, Louisiana were less satisfied. A day before Georges made landfall, forecasters were predicting that the hurricane had a good chance of striking New Orleans. Emergency management officials must begin to arrange evacuation(疏散) well before a storm struck. But evacuation cost money. The mayor of New Orleans estimated that his city’s preparations for Georges cost more than $50 million. After Georges missed New Orleans, some residents questioned the value of the hurricane forecasts in the face of such high costs. The different views on the early warning of Hurricane Georges show some of the complexity(復(fù)雜性) related to predicting disasters. Disaster prediction is a process of providing scientific information for the government officials and other decision-makers who must respond to those predictions. 32.What is the purpose of disaster prediction according to the passage? A.To find out the cause of disasters. B.To save people’s lives. C.To prevent natural disasters from happening. D.To apply advanced technology to disaster prediction. 33.In which area did a hurricane cause the most deaths? A.Puerto Rico. B.New Orleans. C.Biloxi. D.Galveston. 34.Why were the city residents of New Orleans unsatisfied? A.Because their preparations were made in vain. B.Because the hurricane warning arrived rather late. C.Because the forecast hurricane did not hit the city. D.Because they suffered a heavy hurricane attack. 35.What does the passage mainly talk about? A.The different ways of disaster prediction. B.Technological advances in disaster prediction. C.The benefits and preparations of disaster prediction. D.The importance and uncertainty of disaster prediction. Slow travel is about connecting deeply with your travels. Rather than rushing from one place to another, slow travelers treat each experience as an opportunity to learn and feel more deeply the people, food, and culture they want to explore. 36 .? My family and friends were all smiling at me. There were colorful balloons all over the house, a big poster saying “HAPPY BIRTHDAY”, and of course a cake with 16 candles. It was a wonderful feeling. I knew that I had finally turned 16 and I might possibly get the thing I wanted most. I saw my mom and dad coming towards me with a small box which seemed to be a birthday present. When I opened the box, I couldn’t believe my eyes. I had really gotten a mobile phone! Throwing myself into their arms, I let out a cry of joy, “Thank you! I love you guys!” “You’re welcome. We knew this was going to make you happy but we got you this not only because you turned sixteen, but also because you are doing well in school. We expect you to keep getting good grades.” “Of course, I will,” I said confidently. As soon as I got to school the next morning, I started showing off my phone and asking everyone for their numbers. It was cool how I got so many contacts on the first day. It felt like I didn’t even exist in that classroom anymore. I wouldn’t pay much attention to the teachers because I was too busy on my phone. However, I didn’t get caught using it. I was pretty sure that the teacher did notice that I stopped paying attention to her because a week later we took a test and I failed. What was worse, my mom had to sign (簽字) the test paper. It was hard to show my mom the test paper. She was used to seeing A’s and B’s on my test papers. Finally, I showed it to her, and she couldn’t believe it. She was angry but most of all, she was disappointed. Realizing the reason for my failure, my parents started to dislike the fact that I had a phone.? ? ? ? ? The next morning, I went to the teacher’s office.? ? ? ? ? ? 根據(jù)第一段最后一句“It’s best to just learn to deal with things and manage your time wisely so you can achieve everything you need.” 根據(jù)第三段第一句“When I started high school I was really nervous too”可知,Eddie剛進(jìn)高中的時候感到很焦慮緊張。 根據(jù)最后一段倒數(shù)第三句“Making some friends and staying with them will greatly help you get used to high school quickly.” 根據(jù)第二段中的“She took a photo of the note and posted it to a Facebook group for parents at the school. The post made its way to three high-schoolers”可知,這三名高中生是從網(wǎng)上了解到Brody的故事的。 根據(jù)第三段中的“And then right after that, all the other classmates signed Brody’s yearbook.” 故選A項。 根據(jù)第四段第三句中的“a list of things to do before”和第四句中的“tourists are all directed to the same must-see places”并結(jié)合四個選項可知,此處是指一生中必須要做的事情,也就是去世之前必須要做的事情,所以kick the bucket意為“去世”。 根據(jù)第一段中的“minutes and even seconds of warning can make the difference between life and death. Because of this, scientists are working...to predict when and where disasters will happen”可知,幾分鐘甚至幾秒鐘的預(yù)警就可以影響生死,因此科學(xué)家們正努力將最新的技術(shù)用于災(zāi)害預(yù)測,由此可知災(zāi)害預(yù)測的目的是挽救人們的生命,故選B。 40.A 主旨句。 故選A。 41.C 根據(jù)下文的“and it grew”可知,此處指第一顆種子想要生長(grow)。 42.B 根據(jù)上文的“I want to send my roots deep into the soil”可知,第一顆種子想要把根深深地扎進(jìn)土壤里,再由下文的“come up”可知此處表示努力(try)破土而出。try to do sth. 43.A 根據(jù)下文的“the sun on my face”可知,陽光照在臉上會感受到溫暖(warmth)。 44.B 根據(jù)下文“I don’t know what I will meet in the dark”可知,第二顆種子認(rèn)為如果把根扎入下面的土壤(ground)里,不知道在黑暗中會遇到什么。 push one’s way through是固定搭配,意為“擠著穿過”。 46.A “What if...?” 由下文的“out of the ground”可知,第二顆種子擔(dān)心自己會被小朋友從地里拔(pull)出來。 47.C 根據(jù)下文的“and right away ate it”可知,母雞把它吃掉了,所以母雞是在找食物(food)。 48.C 根據(jù)空后的“what if I stop focusing on...for the best?” 49.A 結(jié)合前面第二顆種子的顧慮,并根據(jù)前面的“stop”和空后的“go for the best”可知,此處表示不再關(guān)注最壞的(worst)情況,而是去追求最好的結(jié)果,故選A。 51.C 根據(jù)上一句的“Most people can do unusual things”和空后的“most people don’t”可知,前后句在語義上是轉(zhuǎn)折關(guān)系。 53.B 根據(jù)上文的“They will do it when they are rich or when they get married.” be located at... 故填a。 60.into/to 考查介詞。change...into/to... 故填into/to。 分析句子成分可知,設(shè)空處作謂語,根據(jù)時間狀語“Over the past two decades”可知應(yīng)用現(xiàn)在完成時,主語為第三人稱單數(shù)。故填has taught。 分析句子成分可知,“to communicate with foreign tourists”為真正的賓語(made的賓語),設(shè)空處應(yīng)用it作形式賓語。故填it。 皁ne of the+形容詞最高級+可數(shù)名詞復(fù)數(shù)”意為“最…… out of admiration意為“出于欽佩”。 I’m Li Hua, president of the Student Union. I have found that many students spend very little time on physical exercise due to the heavy burden of schoolwork. Now, it’s time to fit exercise into our busy schedule. ? It is universally recognized that exercise is of great importance to physical and mental health. Besides, taking regular exercise improves our concentration and reduces academic stress. To encourage everyone to live a more active life, I recommend jogging and skipping rope, which are cost-effective ways to strengthen endurance and maintain a healthy weight. Come on! Let’s make exercise our life habit! The Student Union? 第二節(jié) One possible version: Realizing the reason for my failure, my parents started to dislike the fact that I had a phone. They said it was like I was in my own little world all day, playing with my phone instead of communicating with them. They regretted having given me a phone, which made me not concentrate on study any more. Anyway, they signed the paper at last and I began to reflect on what I had done in those days. The next morning, I went to the teacher’s office. I told the teacher I realized that I was wrong and that I would learn to use my phone correctly. My teacher smiled at me gently and said, “The mobile phone is useful, but you should not let it take you away from the rest of the world. As a student, you have the responsibility to focus your attention on useful things”. I nodded my head with tears running down my face. I promised her that I would make progress in the future. A month later, I was wild with joy when I took first place in the monthly test. I felt proud of myself for making the right choice. 1.B2.C3.A4.A5.B6.C7.A8.C9.A10.B11.B12.A13.B14.B15.B16.C17.A18.B19.A20.B21.D22.C23.B24.D25.B26.C27.A28.C29.D30.C31.C32.B33.D34.A35.D36.F37.C38.E39.G40.A41.C42.B43.A44.B45.B46.A47.C48.C49.A50.B51.C52.C53.B54.A55.B56.who 57.Located 58.a 59.To support 60.into/to 61.waking 62.has taught 63.it 64.busiest 65.admiration
