Ss: … Step 2 Listening A Living on Mars A1 Daniel wants to live on Mars in the future. However, Sandy is still not sure if she would like to. This week, there is a TV programme on this topic. Listen to the preview. Help Sandy make notes of it. Ask the students to practice the conversation in pairs. And then act it out in class. Step 4 Speaking 1. Daniel and Sandy are talking about living on Mars. Listen to the conversation and answer the questions. Questions: (1) Why is Sandy not sure if it’s worth to living on Mars? (2)What about all his friends on the Earth if Daniel goes to Mars? Answers: (1) She thinks we might get ill from living there. (2) He wants them all to come too. 2. Ask students to read the dialogue aloud in pairs. Daniel: Would you like to live on Mars, Sandy? Sandy: I’m not sure if it’s worth the risk. It worries me. Daniel: Why? It would be quite safe. After all, humans have already been to the Moon. Sandy: Maybe you’re right, but we might get ill from living there. Daniel: I don’t think so, Sandy. It’s just a different kind of life. It would be great to live on another planet. Sandy: What about all your friends here on the Earth if you go to Mars? Daniel: I want you all to come too. Sandy: OK. If we all go together, it should be fun. Step 5 Practice Ask students to work in pairs to make a dialogue using Daniel and Sandy’s conversation as a model. A: Would you like to live on Mars, ...? B: I’m not sure if it’s worth the risk. It worries me. A: Why? It would be quite... After all, ... B: Maybe you’re right, but we might... A: I don’t think so, ... It’s just a different kind of life. It would be... B: What about... if... ? A: I want... too. B: OK. If we all... , it should be... Step 6 Study skills 1. Self-assessment To do self-assessment means to think about your studies in order to find out your strengths and weaknesses. This can help you make a plan to improve the way you study. 2. Present it with a form. Ask the students to read the form and answer questions. Questions: (1)Does Kitty often speak English in class? (2)What mistakes does she often make in her English study? (3)Is Kitty good at English listening? (4)What problems does she have in her English study? Answers: (1)Yes, she does. (2)She often makes spelling mistakes. (3)Not really. (4)She can not remember new words easily or learn new grammar rules well. 3. Ask the students to read Kitty’s plan and think about what Kitty plans to do to improve her English skills. Answers: She plans to copy the new words in her notebook and read them every morning. She plans to remember five new words every day. She will keep an English diary and try to use the new grammar rules she has learnt. She plans to watch English TV programmes every weekend in order to improve her listening skills. 4. Now complete the self-assessment form in Part A yourself. Then write your own plan for studying English. Step 7 Language points 1. They thought liens were dangerous and would harm people. 他們認(rèn)為外星人危險(xiǎn)會(huì)傷害人類。 harm sb / sth 意為“傷害某人/某物”,其中,harm用作動(dòng)詞。 do harm to …意為“對(duì)……有害”,其中,harm用作名詞。 A little hard work never harmed anyone. 工作努力一點(diǎn)兒對(duì)任何人都絕無害處。 Try to choose products that do the least harm to the environment. 盡量選擇對(duì)環(huán)境損害最小的產(chǎn)品。 拓展: (1) harmful 形容詞,意為“有害的”,be harmful to= be bad for 意為“對(duì)……有害處”。 Smoking is harmful to your health.=Smoking is bad for your health. 吸煙對(duì)你的健康有害。 (2) harmless 形容詞,意為“無害的”。 This experiment was harmless to the animals. 這個(gè)實(shí)驗(yàn)對(duì)動(dòng)物無害。 2.
